Chapter 79: Wraiths
Adrain felt a terrifying aura from these creatures but he was a werewolf and running was not an option.
’ Huh, Why’d i just think that?’ Adrain understood that running away when the situation is unfavorable is smart.
Yet the thought of running away felt repulsive to him, ’ Fuck, something is really wrong with my head.’
He cursed then attacked, he didn’t wait for the creatures to attack him, with a snap of a finger, a red spark appeared in the fog.
BOOOOM, a loud explosion shook the lake and water exploded up rising nearly a dozen metres in the air.
Through the explosion Adrain saw the creatures weren’t harmed but he was finally able to see their true forms.
They looked humanoid or at the very least their upper bodies did. They were covered in a pitch black hooded cloak that hid their faces.
From their sleeves only long black claws like knives could be seen and below their weist there was nothing but their smoky cloak.
The tip of their cloaks danced in the wind like smoke. " Wraiths." He whispered, wraiths were part of the spectral branch of Gadra similar to ghosts.
But they were more ferocious and dangerous and harder to kill. While ghosts are born from souls with unsolved grievance.
Wraiths are born a number of ways, some are created and some are created in places with an abundance of dark esper like demonic energy.
Knowing his opponents made his decision much easier, he immediately turned around and ran.
’ Coward.’ a voice whispered in his heard but he ignored it, he was not fighting so many wraiths.
From what he read about them, these things are even harder to kill than he was, not to mention he felt a very powerful one.
Possibly at rank 3 or higher he couldn’t tell but he could feel its gaze on his back. The explosion of his attack had drawn the attention of the campers
Seeing the wraiths were about to catch up to him he suddenly had an idea. He ran towards the campers then jumped.
His body blurred above them and all they saw was a blur followed by a heavy gale then then saw a dark cloud flying towards them at rapid speed.
The campers screamed and scrambled to run but how could mere humans outrun something moving at supersonic speed.
It was only because wraiths were semi physical that sonic booms were not following behind them.
Adrain looked back while jumping from tree to tree at blinding speeds, he hoped the wraiths would waste their time killing the humans.
That would give him enough time to reach the barrier, without the strongest wraith at the back, he didn’t fear the others.
Unfortunately for him, his wish was not fulfilled, the cloud of wraiths ignored the campers and chased after him.
He was certain now, he was their target from the start. " It seems they found me." He whispered and sighed.
Meggie had explained that some powerful people were after him, one able to send so many powerful wraiths must he quite a dangerous being themselves.
While it was annoying, it was inevitable, he couldn’t stay couped up in the city for the rest of his life.
The city barrier was less than two kilometres away from him and wraiths were getting closer.
He finally used a speed enhancing ability, unfortunately he couldn’t stack them or he would’ve done that.
He used the best one he had, unlike Sam’s, it didn’t have any visible effect besides his legs getting thicker and more muscular like an inflated balloon.
Boom, the tree branch below his feet shattered into fragments and his body shot forward like a slingshot.
He broke the sound barrier without even using his true werewolf form, a testament of his growth.
Unfortunately that was not enough to help him, the strongest wraith suddenly moved, a low hoarse growl pierced through his ears.
It sounded like a wail of a dying old woman, then a puff of smoke and embers appeared in front of him and blocked his path.
Its face finally became visible, it was dark grey like ash, its skin looked like burnt bark that was flaking off, it mouth had pitch black rotten teeth.
Adrain didn’t stop and lunged at the wraith, their claws clashed, sparks flew and he flew back like a ragdoll.
He crashed through a tree and rolled on the ground then jumped to his feet and at that moment the black cloud engulfed him.
He slun rapidly on his feet with flames dancing around him and created a cyclone of fire more than 10 metres high.
Yet the wraiths flew through the flames and attacked him, blood claw marks appeared on his body and healed almost instantly.
He tried other means but none seem to work against the wraiths, not even his lunar energy could damage them.
Or so he thought but noticed the more he used it against them, the weaker they got but it was slow.
While dealing with the other wraiths, the strongest one suddenly appeared in front of him.
Adrain created a dome of lunar energy around himself to stop the wraith but it fazed through it.
Before he could react a wave of smoke bellowed like a flood and engulfed his body, it surged inside him through his mouth noses and ears.
" AHHHHHH." Adrain screamed, this was the most painful experience he had ever had and it was then that he knew the level of this wraith.
His mind blanked and had found himself in dark cave, he felt a gaze on him and he looked up.
His eyes met two red embers staring back, in front of him was stone throne and on it say a being of ash and embers.
This being was humanoid and covered in a black cloak of ash that danced like wisps of smoke.
Its four limbs were bound by chains of silver with runes drawn on every inch and those chains dug into the earth and disappeared below.
Adrain immediately knew this was the creator of the wraiths and he also knew what he had faced was merely a scouting party of nearly 300 led by a level 3 wraith.
" Foooouund youuuuu." The figure whispered in a raspy hoarse voice that grated his eardrums.
Adrain screamed and held his head that felt like it was splitting in two then he came back to reality.
The smoke of the wraith was burning his inside and subjugating hin to excruciating pain but that did not matter.
Because Adrain now knew the real army of wraiths was on its way and if they caught him, he was bound to suffer more than this level of pain.
A low growl filled with rage and savagery reverberated through the fog then his bones cracked and his skin split.
In a split second he took his true werewolf form and howled to the sky through the pain of burning organs.
