My Magical Girl System

Chapter 252: S-rank Assassin

Klauster Butcher’s Office

Klauster Butcher stood in his private study, his massive frame trembling with barely contained fury. His face was flushed, his bald head gleaming with sweat under the chandelier’s light. In his thick, meaty hand, the shattered remains of a crystal glass dripped with expensive wine and blood from where a shard had cut his palm.

"An artifact stolen from my estate? From under my very nose?!" His voice boomed through the room, shaking the delicate ornaments on the shelves. "How is this possible? How could no one notice?!"

The subordinate standing before him—a wiry demon in a tailored suit—flinched under his master’s glare. "The alarm system was disabled, sir. The enchantments were disarmed before the thieves even reached the vault. By the time the secondary alarms triggered, they were already gone."

Klauster’s fist slammed down on the mahogany desk, cracking the surface. "I don’t want to hear excuses!!"

The subordinate bowed his head lower. "We’ve already deployed tracking teams. They’re searching the perimeter and the surrounding districts. We’ll find them, sir."

"Find them?" Klauster’s laugh was cold, humorless. "They’re probably halfway across the city by now, laughing at us!"

He took a breath, forcing himself to calm down. His voice dropped to a low, dangerous growl. "Bring me the Blade of Silent Night. Now."

The subordinate’s eyes widened, but he didn’t hesitate. "At once, sir."

He hurried out of the study, his footsteps echoing down the corridor. Klauster turned away from the door, his massive hands gripping the edge of his desk, his knuckles white with tension.

From the corner of the room, a voice cut through the heavy silence—smooth, unhurried, carrying a hint of amusement.

"Hmm. That was quite a commotion, Klauster. I thought I was here for a quiet evening."

A man lounged in a high-backed armchair near the fireplace, his long legs crossed, his posture relaxed. His purple hair fell in loose waves past his shoulders, and his sharp features were set in a calm, almost bored expression. He wore a perfectly tailored black suit, the fabric expensive, the cut precise. His eyes, a pale, piercing gray, held a faint glint of amusement as he watched Klauster’s display of anger with detached interest.

Guile Louise. S-rank assassin. A man whose reputation was as sharp as the blades he carried.

Klauster turned to face him, his voice still carrying an edge. "This is no time for your laziness, Guile. An artifact was stolen from under our noses, and you just sat there doing nothing!"

Guile raised an elegant eyebrow, his voice smooth and unbothered. "Is that what you’re upset about? The artifact?"

"Of course, I’m upset! That statue was supposed to be delivered to the higher demons tonight!" Klauster’s face was red with frustration, his meaty hands clenching and unclenching at his sides. "And you should have prevented this! You’re supposed to be the best! Why didn’t you stop them?!"

Guile’s smile didn’t waver, but his gray eyes grew sharp, carrying a hint of steel. His voice remained calm, measured, but there was an edge beneath it that made Klauster’s tirade pause.

"Because I wasn’t contracted to guard your artifacts, Klauster. I was hired to protect you. Nothing more. Your security systems, your guards, your vaults—that’s all your responsibility."

He uncrossed his legs, leaning forward slightly, his voice dropping to a silken murmur.

"Now, Klauster. Do you want to find these thieves? Or do you want to keep shouting at me?"

Klauster’s jaw tightened. He held Guile’s gaze for a long moment, then let out a slow, forced breath. His voice was still strained, but quieter now. "Yes. I want them found."

Guile’s smile returned, smooth and calm. "Then let’s get to work."

He stood, adjusting his cuffs with deliberate care. "Where did your tracking teams last see them?"

Klauster’s expression hardened, a flicker of reluctant respect in his eyes. "Near the eastern perimeter. They moved fast—by the time my men reached the wall, they were already gone."

Guile’s fingers brushed against the hilt of a blade concealed beneath his jacket. "The eastern perimeter? That’s clever. It leads to the old district, lots of places to hide." His gaze flicked to Klauster. "I’ll take it from here. If the thieves are still in the city, I’ll find them."

Klauster’s voice was low, carrying a note of warning. "Don’t disappoint me, Guile. I’m paying you a lot of money for your services."

Guile’s smile widened, sharp and calm. "You’re paying me to kill, Klauster. Tracking is just a bonus."

He walked toward the shattered window, his steps silent on the marble floor. Before stepping through, he paused, glancing back over his shoulder.

"Tell your men to stay out of my way. I work faster alone."

With that, he vanished into the night, his form dissolving into the shadows like smoke.

Klauster stood motionless for a long moment, his massive frame still trembling with residual anger, his knuckles white where his hands gripped the edge of the cracked mahogany desk.

The door creaked open. His subordinate entered, moving with careful, deliberate steps, a long, ornate case cradled in his arms. The case was made of dark, polished wood, inlaid with silver runes that pulsed faintly with a dormant, hungry light.

"Sir," the subordinate said, his voice low and respectful. "The Blade of Silent Night has been retrieved from the vault."

Klauster straightened, turning to face him. His eyes lingered on the case for a moment, then he waved a dismissive hand. "Set it down over there. We may not need it after all."

The subordinate hesitated, his brow furrowing. "Sir? The thieves—"

"Guile Louise is on their trail," Klauster cut him off, his voice carrying a note of cold finality. "If anyone can find them and bring back what was stolen, it’s him. The blade will remain here—for now. A precaution, nothing more."

The subordinate nodded, setting the case down on a nearby table with reverent care. He stepped back, bowing his head. "Understood, sir."

Klauster turned back to the shattered window, his gaze fixed on the dark skyline beyond. His voice was low, almost a mutter.

"Let’s see how long they can run."

Somewhere in the Eastern District

The alley was narrow, wedged between two crumbling tenement buildings, the air thick with the smell of damp brick and refuse. Andrey pressed his back against the cold stone wall, his breathing controlled, his Ki senses stretched to their limit. The Statue of the Eclipse was tucked securely into his inventory, its faint pulse hidden from prying eyes.

Morgana stood beside him, her illusion flickering faintly as she focused on maintaining their concealment. Her red eyes scanned the street beyond the alley’s mouth, her posture tense but controlled.

"They’re still searching," she murmured, her voice barely audible. "I can feel their presence—tracking teams, at least three of them. They’re sweeping the district in a grid pattern."

Andrey’s gaze remained fixed on the street. "They’ll find us if we stay here too long. We need to move."

Morgana’s lips curved into a faint, wry smile. "You have a plan, Master?"

Andrey’s eyes flickered with quiet determination. "I always have a plan."

He pushed off from the wall, his hand brushing against the brick as he moved to the edge of the alley. He studied the street for a long moment, then turned to Morgana.

"We’re going to the subway. There’s an old maintenance tunnel that runs beneath the eastern district. It’s not on any official map, but it connects to the central hub. If we can reach it, we can lose them."

Morgana’s eyes gleamed with approval. "You really are always prepared, aren’t you?"

Andrey allowed himself a small, tired smile. "I try to be."

They slipped out of the alley, moving in silence, their footsteps light and precise. The streets were quiet, the distant sound of sirens fading as they pressed deeper into the maze of back alleys and forgotten passageways.

A block away, a lone figure stood on a rooftop, his purple hair catching the faint glow of the city lights. Guile Louise watched the two figures disappear into the shadows, a faint, almost amused smile playing on his lips.

"Interesting," he murmured, his voice barely a whisper in the night air. "They move well."

His fingers brushed against the hilt of his blade.

"This might be more entertaining than I thought."

He stepped off the rooftop, his body dissolving into shadow as he descended into the streets below.
