Chapter 251: Klauster Estate
Lumy’s Apartment – Night
Lumy’s eyes fluttered open, the soft glow of the bedside lamp casting gentle shadows across the room. The curtains were drawn, but she could see the deep navy of the night sky beyond—she had slept through the entire evening.
She pushed herself up slowly, wincing at the dull ache that spread through her lower body. A soft, embarrassed sound escaped her as she shifted, feeling the lingering soreness between her legs. She glanced down and noticed the sheets were tangled around her waist, and a faint, familiar scent lingered in the air.
Her gaze swept the room. Andrey was gone. The space beside her was empty, the sheets cool to the touch.
She spotted a piece of paper on the bedside table, folded neatly, with her name written on it in Andrey’s careful handwriting. She reached for it, unfolding it with slightly trembling fingers.
"Lumy, I had to leave. There’s something I need to take care of. I’ll check on you tomorrow. The Moonpetal Blooms are in a sealed container in your kitchen.
— Andrey"
Lumy stared at the note for a long moment, her chest tightening. She let out a slow breath, folding the note and setting it back on the table. She pushed herself out of bed, her legs unsteady beneath her, and walked toward the full-length mirror in the corner of her room.
The sight that greeted her made her freeze.
Her pale skin was marked—traces of Andrey’s passion still visible along her neck, her collarbone, the curve of her shoulder. Faint red marks and a few darker bruises, evidence of his teeth and lips, scattered across her skin like scattered petals. She touched one of the marks on her neck, her fingers tracing the edge of it. The skin was still slightly sensitive beneath her touch.
The sight made her breath catch.
"...How am I supposed to meet Felix like this?" she whispered to herself, her voice hoarse.
She turned away from the mirror, the weight of her reflection still pressing against her chest. Her fingers brushed the high collar of the blouse she had chosen, a shield against the marks she couldn’t erase. She walked to the kitchen, her steps slow but steady, and retrieved the sealed container from the counter where Andrey had left it.
Inside, the Moonpetal Blooms glowed faintly, their silver petals pulsing with a soft, steady light, like captured moonlight breathing in the dark. She held the container against her chest, the cool weight of it grounding her, a tangible reminder of why she had endured everything.
Her gaze drifted to the window, where the first pale light of dawn was beginning to creep across the sky. She let out a slow, steadying breath.
’Tomorrow... I will meet him.’
The words felt fragile, tentative—a promise she wasn’t sure she could keep. But she held onto them anyway, letting them anchor her as she turned away from the window.
She would see Felix. She would give him the cure. And she would find a way to look him in the eye, even if the marks on her skin still whispered of the night she had spent in someone else’s arms.
Klauster Butcher’s Estate – Same Night
Andrey stood in the shadow of a marble pillar, his crisp black suit blending seamlessly with the dimly lit corridor. His hair was neatly combed, his glasses polished, and his posture carried the calm, unassuming air of a corporate executive.
Beside him, shimmering faintly in the low light, stood Morgana. Her usual demonic attire had been replaced by a sleek, form-fitting evening gown of deep violet, her hair styled elegantly, her red eyes hidden behind a pair of delicate silver-framed glasses. To any observer, she was simply a beautiful, mysterious woman accompanying a wealthy guest. Her illusion magic was subtle but effective—enough to mask her true nature from the average demon or human, though she knew it wouldn’t hold against a high-ranking demon’s scrutiny.
"Target is Klauster Butcher," Andrey confirmed, his voice low and even. "According to your information, he has an artifact called the Statue of the Eclipse."
Morgana nodded, her red eyes scanning the grand ballroom below. "Exactly. I heard from a contact in the lower demon circles that the auction is set for midnight. Klauster is keeping the statue in a vault in his private quarters until the handoff."
"Then we take it before the handoff," Andrey murmured.
Andrey’s Ki senses stretched outward, probing the building’s defenses. He winced slightly as he felt the sheer density of demonic and heroic energy signatures scattered throughout the building.
"There are a lot of powerful people here," he said quietly. "Some of them are demons—at least S-rank. If we’re caught, we won’t be able to talk our way out."
Morgana’s eyes gleamed with confidence. "I’ll create a stronger illusion around us—enough to make any prying eyes look away. It won’t hold against a direct confrontation, but it should buy us enough time to reach the vault."
Andrey studied her for a moment, then gave a small nod. "Let’s move."
They descended the staircase, blending seamlessly into the crowd of elegantly dressed guests. Morgana’s illusion rippled around them, subtle and disorienting—just enough to make anyone who glanced at them look away without a second thought.
They navigated the labyrinthine corridors, past clusters of laughing guests and silent, watchful guards. Morgana’s hand rested lightly on Andrey’s arm, her step steady and unflinching.
"Fourth floor, east wing," she murmured, her voice barely audible. "His private quarters are there. The vault should be accessible through a hidden door behind a portrait—a painting of a crescent moon over a darkened sea."
Andrey’s gaze sharpened. "You’re well-informed."
Morgana’s lips curved into a faint, self-satisfied smile. "I make it my business to know things, Master."
They reached a quiet corridor, the sounds of the gala fading behind them. Andrey paused, his Ki senses probing ahead. A single guard stood at the end of the hall, his posture rigid, his eyes scanning the corridor with trained vigilance.
Morgana’s voice was a soft whisper. "Leave him to me."
She stepped forward, her walk shifting into something more fluid, more seductive. The guard’s gaze flicked toward her, and for a moment, his professional composure faltered.
Morgana’s voice was a velvet purr. "I think I took a wrong turn."
The guard stiffened, his hand moving toward his weapon. "Who are you? This area is restricted."
Morgana’s eyes flared with a faint, violet light. "You’re very tired," she murmured, her voice carrying an edge of command. "You should rest your eyes for a moment."
The guard blinked, his eyelids growing heavy. He tried to speak, but his words slurred into a mumble. His body swayed, and he slumped against the wall, sliding slowly to the floor.
Andrey stepped past him, his gaze scanning the corridor. "How long will he be out?"
"Long enough," Morgana replied, her voice businesslike once more. "His mind will be hazy for the next hour or so. He’ll wake up wondering if he dozed off."
They reached the large oak door at the end of the corridor. Andrey pressed his ear against it, his Ki senses probing the other side. He could feel the faint pulse of residual mana—traces of Klauster’s presence, and something else.
"The vault is inside," he said quietly. "I can feel the artifact’s energy signature."
Morgana moved beside him, her hand tracing the edge of the doorframe. "The door is reinforced with layered enchantments. They’re not actively hostile, but they’ll trigger an alarm if we try to open it through conventional means."
Andrey studied the door, his gaze sweeping over the intricate carvings embedded in the wood. "Can you disarm them?"
Morgana’s red eyes gleamed. "Give me a few minutes."
She began to work, her fingers tracing the carvings with practiced precision. Andrey kept watch, his Ki senses extending outward, alert for any approaching footsteps.
After a few tense minutes, Morgana let out a quiet breath. "There. The alarm is disabled. But we’ll only have a short window before it resets itself."
Andrey nodded, pushing the door open. The room beyond was dimly lit, lined with shelves of antique artifacts and glass cases holding ornate weapons. At the center of the room, resting on a velvet pedestal, stood a small, obsidian statue—a figure of a hooded woman with her arms raised to the sky, her face turned upward as if in silent prayer. Faint, silver light pulsed from its surface.
Andrey’s Ki senses confirmed it instantly. "This is it."
He crossed the room, his hand reaching out to take the statue. But as his fingers brushed its surface, he felt a cold, sharp sting—and a pulse of dark energy erupted from the statue, sending a shockwave through the room.
A deafening alarm began to blare.
Andrey’s gaze snapped toward the door. "They know we’re here."
Morgana’s expression hardened. "We need to move. Now."
Andrey’s hand tightened around the statue, and he turned, already moving toward the window. "Then we go out the way we came in—the hard way."Andrey’s Ki senses screamed a warning. He felt three presences closing in fast—powerful, coordinated, with predatory intent.
"Guardians incoming," he said, his voice tight with focus. "Two on the left, one from behind. We’re cut off from the main staircase."
Morgana’s gaze swept the room. "The window leads to the garden level. It’s a drop, but nothing we can’t handle."
Andrey moved, his hand still gripping the statue. "Then we go now."
He crossed the room, shattering the window with a single, Ki-enhanced strike. The sound of shattering glass echoed through the corridor, followed by the sharp, commanding shouts of the approaching guardians.
Morgana was beside him in an instant, her hand gripping his arm. "Jump!"
They leaped. The night air rushed past them as they fell, the wind whipping through their clothes, the lights of the gala blurring above them. Andrey twisted midair, his Ki senses tracking the ground below. He channeled a burst of Ki into his legs, softening his landing as they hit the grass.
They rolled, coming up in a sprint.
Behind them, two figures dropped from the window—one a man in sleek black armor, the other a woman with pale hair and eyes that burned with cold, predatory light. They were fast, their movements fluid and precise.
Andrey’s gaze flicked to Morgana. "Can you slow them down?"
Morgana’s voice was sharp, focused. "I can try. Keep running."
She raised her hand, violet energy coalescing around her palm, and a wave of purple light erupted behind them, creating a shimmering wall of disorienting energy. The figures stumbled, momentarily disoriented.
They used the opening to widen the distance.
Andrey’s voice was low. "The auction is still happening tonight. If Klauster realizes the statue is gone, he’ll send more hunters after us."
Morgana’s eyes gleamed with a sharp, dangerous light. "Then we’ll just have to make sure they can’t track us."
They reached the edge of the estate’s perimeter wall. Andrey vaulted over it, his body moving with practiced ease. Morgana followed a heartbeat later, her dress catching on the stone for just a moment before she tore free.
They landed on the quiet street beyond, the sounds of the gala fading behind them.
