Chapter 636 : Full of Vitality
“Why do you insist on sleeping on my lap?!”
Ling Ning looked at Zhou Xiaoxiao in exasperation. She had expected something weird to happen, only to find out Zhou Xiaoxiao just wanted a makeshift pillow. Ling Ning couldn’t help but feel like her emotions had been played with.
Give me back the panic I just went through! You jerk.
Zhou Xiaoxiao smiled faintly. “Because your lap is so comfortable. Oh, wait! Ling Ning, you weren’t thinking of something inappropriate just now, were you?”
“W-What? Of course not!” Ling Ning stammered, avoiding Zhou Xiaoxiao’s gaze.
“Really?”
To be fair, if not for the fact that many people had keys to the sports equipment room, Zhou Xiaoxiao might have made a move already. Well… actually, she’d prefer it if Ling Ning took the initiative instead.
“So, are we just going to spend the afternoon here?”
“Pretty much.”
Without further explanation, Zhou Xiaoxiao closed her eyes, taking in the faint scent wafting from Ling Ning. She felt like she could drift off to sleep in no time.
The thought of what might happen while she was asleep made her heart race with excitement.
Looking at Zhou Xiaoxiao lying on her lap, Ling Ning sighed softly and reclined onto the mat. If Zhou Xiaoxiao was going to sleep, then there wasn’t much else for her to do but nap as well.
She had considered playing on her phone, but there was no signal in this room. Unbelievable.
It was unclear how much time passed before Ling Ning opened her eyes. Blinking sleepily, she glanced around and confirmed that Zhou Xiaoxiao was still resting peacefully on her lap. Only then did she exhale in relief.
Pulling out her phone, she saw that it was already past four in the afternoon. She hadn’t realized she’d slept for so long.
Sensing movement, Zhou Xiaoxiao opened her eyes as well. Seeing Ling Ning, she flashed a sweet smile. “Good morning, Ling Ning.”
“It’s not morning, you dork. It’s already the afternoon.”
“Really?”
Zhou Xiaoxiao blinked in confusion, then stood up and stretched lazily. Noticing that nothing had happened while she slept, she pouted slightly. The fact that Ling Ning hadn’t done anything was… disappointing.
“Well, now that we’re awake, let’s go for a walk. I can see you off on your way out.”
“Alright.”
Ling Ning stood up, stretched her stiff limbs, and returned the mats to the rack. Just as she finished, Zhou Xiaoxiao let out a small yelp.
“What’s wrong?”
“The door… I think it’s stuck!” Zhou Xiaoxiao’s face displayed just the right amount of surprise.
Ling Ning froze. With her luck, could she really be so unlucky? Was she about to spend the night locked in with Zhou Xiaoxiao?
But soon enough, Ling Ning noticed the faint smile tugging at Zhou Xiaoxiao’s lips. Realization dawned on her—Zhou Xiaoxiao was lying.
Seeing Ling Ning’s suspiciously calm expression, Zhou Xiaoxiao burst out laughing. “You totally believed me just now, didn’t you? Haha!”
“Enough joking around. Just open the door so we can leave.”
“Alright, alright.”
Zhou Xiaoxiao casually unlocked the door and walked out, with Ling Ning quickly following.
As they strolled through the campus, Zhou Xiaoxiao suddenly asked, “Are you really going home now, Ling Ning?”
“What else would I do? Stay the night here?”
“You could! I can sneak you into an empty dorm. Once there, we could…”
“No thanks. That sounds like way too much trouble. Besides, I need to get home and cook for Ye Ye~”
“You’re so good to Ye Ye, Ling Ning.”
“Well, of course. She’s my little… sister, after all. My one and only.” Thinking of her daughter, a gentle smile graced Ling Ning’s lips.
Watching her expression, Zhou Xiaoxiao teased, “Ling Ning, are you a sis-con? Are you planning to start a forbidden yuri romance with your sister?”
“Uh…”
Ling Ning froze. A sis-con? No way. At most, she was just overly doting on her daughter. As for forbidden love, she might be a scumbag, but she’d never go that far… right?
Seeing Ling Ning lost in thought, Zhou Xiaoxiao was stunned. “Wait, you’re not seriously considering it, are you?!”
“What?! No way! Ye Ye’s my sister. By the way, when do your holidays start?” Ling Ning laughed awkwardly, quickly changing the subject.
“The holidays? In about a week, I think. But once the break starts, the New Year won’t be far behind. After that, classes will start up again soon.”
The thought left Zhou Xiaoxiao feeling utterly disheartened.
As they chatted, they reached the secluded back gate of the school. With no one else around, Zhou Xiaoxiao casually pulled out her key and unlocked the door.
Just as Ling Ning was about to step out, Zhou Xiaoxiao suddenly stopped her. “Hold on, Ling Ning.”
“Huh?”
“There’s some dust on your clothes.”
“Really? Wait—mmph?!”
Before Ling Ning could react, she felt the soft warmth of Zhou Xiaoxiao’s lips on hers. Her eyes widened in shock. A moment later, Zhou Xiaoxiao pulled back, stepping away with a playful grin.
“Don’t forget my confession today, Ling Ning. Oh, and you can keep the uniform.”
“…”
As the door closed behind Zhou Xiaoxiao, Ling Ning let out a soft sigh. She couldn’t shake the feeling that she was a terribly sinful person. How had things come to this? If this kept up, she was doomed.
After Ling Ning left, Zhou Xiaoxiao returned to her dorm.
Casually turning on her computer, Zhou Xiaoxiao’s fingers danced across the keyboard.
Not long after, a female security guard in the control room noticed the back gate’s surveillance feed flicker briefly before returning to normal. She glanced at it but didn’t give it much thought.
The cameras at the back gate occasionally glitched like this. She had grown used to it. After all, it wasn’t like any students could sneak out through there… right?
