Chapter 635 : I Think You Need to Calm Down
“Meow, meow, meow?!”
Ling Ning stared at Zhou Xiaoxiao in bewilderment. This sudden confession had left her no time to process anything. And in this unfamiliar place, without Zhou Xiaoxiao’s key, even leaving wasn’t an option.
“I’m not joking. The person I like is you, Ling Ning!”
As if worried Ling Ning might think she was kidding, Zhou Xiaoxiao repeated her words, her expression deadly serious.
“Um… Xiaoxiao, when exactly did you start liking me?” Ling Ning asked cautiously.
“Probably… the moment you agreed to help me.”
Recalling that moment, Zhou Xiaoxiao’s heartbeat quickened. The feelings that came with liking someone couldn’t be controlled. By the time she realized it, she was already in love.
Looking at Zhou Xiaoxiao, Ling Ning blinked, pondering briefly before seemingly making up her mind. With a serious expression, she said, “Um… Xiaoxiao, actually, I already like someone else.”
To Ling Ning’s surprise, Zhou Xiaoxiao’s expression didn’t change at all, as if she had already anticipated this response.
“I know. So what?”
“Uh…”
“You’ve heard the saying, right? ‘With enough effort, no wall can’t be breached.’ You’re not even married yet, so why would I give up? Even if you were married, I wouldn’t!” Zhou Xiaoxiao declared firmly.
Once she set her mind on something, not even an army of oxen could pull her back—especially when it came to her lifelong happiness.
“What if I told you I like more than one person? That I’m just a scumbag playing the field with who knows how many?” Ling Ning asked hesitantly.
“Then just add me to the list of people you like. After that, I’ll sink all those other ‘ships’ one by one!” Zhou Xiaoxiao replied without hesitation.
This left Ling Ning utterly speechless. For the first time, she realized how assertive Zhou Xiaoxiao could be. Normally, Zhou Xiaoxiao came across as submissive, so why was she acting like a dominant now? Did Ling Ning somehow have a talent for turning people into domineering types?
“Ling Ning, whether you agree or not doesn’t matter. Liking you is my decision, and you have no say in it,” Zhou Xiaoxiao said with a cheeky smile.
Just as Ling Ning was about to respond, a beautiful girl in a school uniform appeared by their table.
“Good afternoon, Xiaoxiao. Grabbing lunch so early?”
“Well, I just thought it’d be less crowded now,” Zhou Xiaoxiao replied casually.
Hearing this, the girl chuckled softly, then shifted her gaze to Ling Ning. A flash of doubt flickered in her eyes—Ling Ning seemed vaguely familiar, though she couldn’t quite place where she’d seen her before.
“Is something the matter?” Ling Ning asked gracefully, greeting the girl with a composed smile.
Ling Ning knew that acting timidly would only arouse suspicion, so she decided it was better to take the initiative.
“No, nothing. It’s just that I don’t recall seeing you before.”
“Perhaps we’re not in the same class.”
“I see. My apologies, then. I’ll leave you to your lunch.”
Once the girl had left, Ling Ning let out a quiet sigh of relief. Luckily, her acting skills held up. If she’d been exposed, she would’ve had to make a run for it.
After the incident, Ling Ning noticed the cafeteria growing busier. She and Zhou Xiaoxiao quickened their pace, finishing their meal as quickly as possible before quietly leaving.
Fortunately, after the girl’s departure, no one else came over to chat with Zhou Xiaoxiao.
“Um… Xiaoxiao, since we’re done reviewing, I think it’s time for me to leave,” Ling Ning said softly.
“Why are you in such a hurry? Are you afraid I’ll eat you up or something?” Zhou Xiaoxiao teased, leaning closer to Ling Ning.
Faced with Zhou Xiaoxiao’s proximity, Ling Ning instinctively stepped back, only to press against the wall. Tilting her head slightly, she muttered, “It’s not that… I’m just worried about getting caught here. I think it’s better if I leave soon…”
“Don’t worry. No one’s going to catch you. Besides, didn’t you do an excellent job earlier~?”
As if struck by a thought, Zhou Xiaoxiao’s face lit up with a mischievous smile. “Ling Ning, I know a place where we can relax for a bit.”
“Huh?!”
Before Ling Ning could respond, Zhou Xiaoxiao grabbed her hand and started leading her away.
After some time, they arrived at the door to the sports equipment room.
As Ling Ning stood there, wondering why Zhou Xiaoxiao had brought her here, Zhou Xiaoxiao pulled out a key and unlocked the door.
“Come on in. Once the door’s shut, no one will know we’re here.”
Hesitating for a moment, Ling Ning eventually followed Zhou Xiaoxiao inside. Looking around at the neatly arranged equipment, Ling Ning couldn’t help but feel like she’d stepped into a scene straight out of a risqué visual novel.
“How do you even have the key to this place?!”
“Well, I’m on the track team. Having a key isn’t that strange, right?”
With a light laugh, Zhou Xiaoxiao grabbed two mats from a shelf, casually spread them on the floor, and lay down, gesturing for Ling Ning to join her.
Watching Zhou Xiaoxiao’s practiced ease, Ling Ning couldn’t help but ask, “Do you usually come here to nap?”
“Only occasionally. But this place is warm in the winter and cool in the summer—perfect for resting!”
“Is that so?”
Raising an eyebrow, Ling Ning hesitated briefly before sitting on one of the mats.
Her mind, however, was still preoccupied with Zhou Xiaoxiao’s earlier confession. It only added to her already muddled thoughts.
Did she really have some passive ability to turn people gay?
As Ling Ning fell into deep contemplation, Zhou Xiaoxiao’s voice suddenly broke the silence. “Ling Ning, you know… here, in this place, even if we did something, no one would ever find out~”
Hearing this, Ling Ning’s expression froze. She turned her head to find Zhou Xiaoxiao gazing at her with smoldering eyes.
“Xiaoxiao, I think you need to calm down!”
