Chapter 185 : I’ve Already Turned Away Ten Show-Offs Like This Today
"Mom, can you please be more careful? I’ve told you so many times not to play on your phone while walking! How many times have you gotten lost because of this?"
The group was standing outside the supermarket, where Chen Ruo, head lowered like a guilty child, was being scolded by her daughter, Lin Yue, who had her hands on her hips. Passersby couldn’t help but watch, intrigued by the sight of a young girl lecturing a tiny, adult-looking “mom —and both were just too cute.
Ling Ning observed the scene, momentarily at a loss for words. Who was the real mom here, anyway?
"Fine, fine! If you keep this up, Mom’s going to get mad!" Chen Ruo muttered, embarrassed, especially with Ling Ning there to witness it. How could she ever hold her head up in front of her again?
“We’ll discuss this later!” Lin Yue sighed in exasperation before turning to Ling Ning. “Anyway, thank you for bringing my hopeless mom back.”
“It was nothing. I just happened to see her on my way.”
Ling Ning was mildly surprised; she hadn’t expected the usually cautious Lin Yue to thank her directly.
“So, Ling Ning, are you here for Bai Yiyue’s concert too?” Chen Ruo asked brightly, finally joining the conversation.
Ling Ning nodded. “Yes, Ling Ye wanted to hear Bai Yiyue live, so I brought her along.”
“What a coincidence! Lin Yue said the same thing, so here we are,” Chen Ruo replied cheerfully.
"Are you sure it wasn’t your daughter who brought you here?" Ling Ning teased, glancing at Chen Ruo’s eager expression.
Seeing the two moms chatting so happily, both Lin Yue and Ling Ye grew visibly irritated, puffing their cheeks as they glared at their respective mothers.
Lin Yue tugged on her mom’s skirt, but Chen Ruo was too engrossed in her conversation with Ling Ning to notice. On the other side, Ling Ye was doing the same, but Ling Ning was just as oblivious.
“You two better stop blocking the supermarket entrance! If you wanna chat, go somewhere else,” a security guard nearby called out, unable to bear it any longer.
Realizing they were in the way, the two “non-wife” wives hurriedly moved aside.
“If you’re going to the concert too, why don’t we all go together?” Ling Ning suggested.
Chen Ruo nodded eagerly at the invitation, completely ignoring her daughter’s murderous glare.

"Who’s this now?" Xu Qing asked in confusion when they regrouped, surprised to see two new faces with Ling Ning. First, there had been the mysterious Xiao Bai, and now there was this pair of adorable little lookalikes.
“Let me introduce you. This is Mrs. Chen Ruo and her daughter Lin Yue. They’re friends of mine.” Ling Ning paused briefly, suddenly remembering that she’d been posing as a married woman with a child. If Chen Ruo found out she was actually a high schooler, who knew what might happen. Oh well, she’d figure it out later.
"Wait, Mrs.? And daughter?" Xu Qing’s brain stalled as she stared at Chen Ruo, who looked barely older than her own daughter. How could she possibly have a child, let alone one so mature? This was downright impossible.
The same incredulity was reflected on the faces of Li Qian and her sister, Li Meng.
“H-hello. I’m Chen Ruo, and this is my daughter, Lin Yue.” Chen Ruo quickly introduced herself from behind Ling Ning before shrinking back into hiding.
Lin Yue gave an apologetic smile. “Sorry, my mom’s a little shy. Please forgive her if she seems a bit off.”
“Oh, it’s fine... we’re just... surprised that Mrs. Chen is so... young and already has such a well-behaved daughter.” Xu Qing had originally wanted to say “young-looking” but decided on “young” instead, thinking this was beyond youthful.
“The concert’s going to start soon, so why don’t we grab a quick meal before heading over?”
“Sounds good.”
During dinner, Chen Ruo stayed mostly behind Ling Ning, quickly finishing her food with an unexpected grace before retreating once more. Though Lin Yue had already explained her mom’s shyness, everyone still felt slightly speechless.
After they ate, the group headed straight for the stadium.
Though there were many entrances, each one was swarmed with people.
“So many people! Who knows how long we’d be waiting in line,” Li Meng remarked.
“Follow me. I know a faster way in,” Ling Ning said with a sly smile.
Everyone looked at her in surprise, but they trusted her enough to follow along. Without saying much, Ling Ning found a staff member and asked about the employee entrance, then led the group straight to their destination.
A few guards were posted in front of the staff entrance, where only those with work passes could enter. As Ling Ning’s group approached, a chubby guard stepped forward and said, “This is the staff entrance. Please line up at the front entrance.”
“We’re friends of Bai Yiyue,” Ling Ning said, pulling out the pass card Bai Yiyue had given her.
The guard didn’t even glance at the card, just waved his hand dismissively. “I don’t care if you’re her boyfriend or girlfriend; this is a staff-only entrance. No entry means no entry!”
“Maybe we should just go back to the line,” Xu Qing suggested.
“We’ve still got time, so we’ll make it in if we wait,” Li Qian added.
Ling Ning shook her head. “It’s alright. I’ll make a quick call.”
The chubby guard looked at Ling Ning with disdain, clearly thinking she was just another pretty girl trying to talk her way in. He scoffed internally; this was the tenth show-off he’d turned away today.
