Chapter 186 : Overflowing Loyalty
After making her call, Ling Ning leisurely started browsing her daughter’s latest novel on her phone. Her daughter’s writing was getting better and better; even Ling Ning was hooked on the plot.
The chubby security guard glanced at Ling Ning, who seemed unfazed, and sneered. He couldn’t wait to see how far she’d take this act.
Noticing Xu Qing and the others looking confused, Ling Ye gave a reassuring smile. “Don’t worry. Mom wouldn’t have brought us here for no reason. Just wait and see.”
Ling Ye knew her mom was close with Bai Yiyue, so she wasn’t worried in the least.
A few moments passed, and the guard grew uneasy watching Ling Ning’s calm demeanor. He vaguely remembered something his supervisor had mentioned over the walkie-talkie earlier, but he’d been chatting at the time and hadn’t paid attention. Now, he wondered if he’d missed something important.
Finally, he snapped and barked at them. “Are you leaving or not? If you don’t, I’m kicking you out!”
Ling Ning looked up, giving him an amused smile. “Are you sure about that?”
“Yes, I’m sure! Now get going!”
“Hold on!”
A voice interrupted just as he was about to act. Turning, he saw a young woman rushing over. He recognized her as one of Bai Yiyue’s assistants. What was she doing here, and why was she in such a hurry?
The guard glanced uneasily at Ling Ning, feeling a sudden sense of dread.
“Excuse me, are you Miss Ling Ning?” Wang Jiaqi, Bai Yiyue’s assistant, asked, catching her breath.
Ling Ning nodded and handed over the access card Bai Yiyue had given her.
Wang Jiaqi examined the card, then smiled warmly. “My apologies, Miss Ling. I’m Xiao Wang, one of Bai Yiyue’s assistants. Thank you for waiting. I’ll escort you inside now.”
“Thank you very much,” Ling Ning replied politely.
Xu Qing and the others were stunned. They had no idea that Ling Ning was acquainted with Bai Yiyue, and from the way Wang Jiaqi behaved, they could tell they were close.
The guard, meanwhile, was dumbfounded. This beautiful woman really was a friend of Bai Yiyue’s, with her personal assistant coming to fetch her. He now realized that she was someone he couldn’t afford to offend.
Ling Ning glanced at the guard but didn’t bother to make things difficult for him. After all, he was just doing his job. However, his rude attitude would serve as a lesson.
Following Wang Jiaqi into the stadium, they were led to seats in the center—close enough for a great view without being too near the stage. It was an excellent spot.
Chen Ruo and her daughter, however, were seated in a different section, so they parted ways.
As they settled into their seats, Xu Qing couldn’t hold back her curiosity any longer. “Ling Ning, you actually know Bai Yiyue? When did that happen?”
Both Li Qian and Li Meng stared at Ling Ning, eyes wide with interest.
“Uh… it’s a long story. I’ll let her explain it to you when we meet,” Ling Ning said, scratching her head.
“So that means we’ll get to meet Bai Yiyue in person?” Xu Qing pressed excitedly.
“Maybe,” Ling Ning replied with a smile, keeping them in suspense.
Since they’d entered through the staff entrance, they had quite some time before the concert started. Ling Ning, feeling drowsy, rested her head on Xu Qing’s shoulder and drifted off.
After a while, Ling Ning felt someone gently nudging her awake. She opened her eyes groggily and found that the once-sparse stadium was now packed, with every seat filled.
“The concert’s about to start,” Xu Qing whispered.
Ling Ning nodded, still a bit sleepy. She yawned, recalling how she and Bai Yiyue had stayed up late chatting the night before.
Just then, the stadium lights dimmed, drawing gasps from the crowd. Ling Ning remained unfazed, having experienced this concert buildup routine in her previous life.
Sure enough, a spotlight soon lit up, accompanied by Bai Yiyue’s voice. Dressed in a dazzling outfit, she took the stage, and the stadium erupted in cheers.
“Bai Yiyue!”
“Bai Yiyue!!”
“Bai Yiyue!!!”
The thunderous applause jolted Ling Ning fully awake. With a noise level like this, staying drowsy wasn’t an option.
The waves of cheering made Ling Ning feel as if her brain was vibrating. She’d been to concerts in her past life, but the energy here was on another level.
Seeing Bai Yiyue on stage, Ling Ning thought she looked like a queen commanding her realm, utterly different from the playful friend she’d spent time with yesterday.
“Thank you all for coming to my concert. This is my first time performing in S City, and to be honest, I’m a little nervous. But seeing your enthusiasm puts me at ease. Now, let’s get started with the first song!”
The crowd roared even louder as Bai Yiyue began her performance.
Ling Ning had to admit that Bai Yiyue’s singing was captivating; she found herself drawn in, even singing along to familiar songs.
Turning to her daughter, she saw Ling Ye utterly entranced by the music. Feeling playful, Ling Ning reached out and pinched Ling Ye’s soft cheek.
Ling Ye didn’t react, which only fueled Ling Ning’s mischief. She poked her daughter’s cheek again, but still no response.
On her third attempt, she didn’t notice Ling Ye turning her head, and accidentally poked her finger right into Ling Ye’s mouth. As Ling Ye stared at her, unamused, Ling Ning quickly tried to pull her hand back, but it was too late.
“Ow! Let go, Ling Ye! That hurts!”
With a sigh of exasperation, Ling Ye finally released her mom’s finger.
Relieved, Ling Ning instinctively put her injured finger in her mouth to soothe it. Then she paused, realizing it was covered in her daughter’s saliva. After a moment, she shrugged it off—it was just her daughter’s, after all.
Watching her mother absentmindedly lick her finger, Ling Ye gave her a look of pure exasperation. Meanwhile, a man seated nearby couldn’t handle the sight and, overwhelmed, had a nosebleed from the sheer allure of the scene.
