Chapter 657 - 627: Going to the Rescue (Part 2)
"Don’t worry too much," Lin Xinghai said reassuringly. "The target we’re rescuing is surrounded by a horde of over a hundred Mutated Zombies, but there aren’t any Fourth Level Mutated Zombies comparable to the Divine Demon Realm among them."
Hearing Lin Xinghai’s words, the members of the Xinghai Squad did indeed let out a collective sigh of relief.
Although a horde of over one hundred Mutated Zombies sounded terrifying, in terms of sheer threat, it really couldn’t compare to a single Fourth Level Mutated Zombie on par with the Divine Demon Realm.
After all, if their squad were to encounter a Mutated Zombie of that level and be targeted, they could be wiped out at any moment.
But against a horde of over a hundred Mutated Zombies, everyone believed that with Lin Xinghai around, even if they couldn’t win, escape would be no problem at all.
The two Armored Vehicles moved extremely fast. Less than half a minute after Lin Xinghai shared the information, they were only one kilometer away from the battlefield.
At this distance, the various detectors on the vehicles finally started to work as intended.
Looking at the densely packed red dots lighting up the Zombie Detector, everyone felt their skin crawl.
"My god, there are 113 Mutated Zombies in total. Ten of them are Third Level, thirty-six are Second Level, and the rest are First Level."
"On top of that, more than 2,000 Abyssal Creatures have gathered there, and they’re still converging quickly. At this rate, their numbers will probably hit 3,000 in just a few minutes."
"Did this military squad poke a Mutated Zombie nest or something? How did they end up being chased by so many of them?" Little Fatty exclaimed, looking at the information from the detectors.
"Alright, enough with the exclamations," Lin Xinghai instructed. "I’ll charge in first to deal with the Mutated Zombies. You guys stay on the perimeter and quickly wipe out those Abyssal Creatures."
"You got it!" Little Fatty replied.
Just then, the vehicle’s signal receiver lit up. Lin Xinghai paid it little mind, simply motioning for Little Fatty to handle it.
’It’s most likely a communication request from the trapped military squad. Probably just telling us to hurry up or something.’
But then, to Lin Xinghai’s surprise, everyone’s wrist computers suddenly vibrated, all emitting a notification sound for a received message.
’Sending a message to all of our wrist computers at once... that’s not simple. Under normal circumstances, these wrist computers are like phones; you need the number to send a message.’
’Whoever did this must have extremely high clearance, even within the military, to bypass the communication settings and send a message directly.’
So, Lin Xinghai didn’t hesitate and immediately opened it to take a look.
After just a single glance, he couldn’t help but raise an eyebrow.
The message sent to his wrist computer was information about an emergency rescue mission.
Of course, Lin Xinghai wasn’t surprised to receive a rescue mission. What truly surprised him was the person who needed rescuing.
It was a heavily injured Divine Demon Realm powerhouse.
It was only then that he finally understood why so many distress signals had been sent out and why they were being pursued by so many Mutated Zombies.
’Indeed, any Divine Demon Realm powerhouse is a vital pillar for the nation, a core figure in the resistance against the Abyssal Plane.’
’Under these circumstances, issuing an emergency rescue call was only natural.’
After reading the details, Lin Xinghai immediately looked down at the mission rewards, and his eyes lit up.
The rewards were indeed generous.
Because of the extreme difficulty of this rescue operation—facing over a hundred Mutated Zombies—the mission was considered equivalent to a third-grade mission of the highest difficulty. Success would directly grant 500,000 Points.
Furthermore, because the rescue target was extremely important and the situation was urgent, a special regulation was invoked: all rewards for this mission would be doubled.
In other words, a successful rescue would mean a direct reward of 1,000,000 Points.
On top of that, the rewards for killing Mutated Zombies and Abyssal Creatures would also be doubled for this mission. Even if the rescue failed, these Points would not be deducted.
’Clearly, this addendum was meant to put the rescue teams at ease, making it clear that they could earn a massive number of Points just by killing Mutated Zombies and Abyssal Creatures.’
The 1,000,000 Points up front were exciting enough, but this latter clause made Lin Xinghai decide to go all out this time.
’He knew that since he hadn’t yet reached the Body Shaping Realm, he already earned double Points for killing these Mutated Zombies. Now, with this mission’s bonus, that would be doubled again. In other words, for every Zombie he killed, he would earn four times the Points of anyone else.’
’If he could kill all one hundred-plus Mutated Zombies, it would be another huge influx of Points.’
After he finished reading the mission rewards, Little Fatty had just connected the call.
Lin Xinghai took two steps forward, snatched the Communication Device without a word, and spoke before the other side could say anything: "I am Lin Xinghai, the number one genius from East Sea Academy. I’m already aware of your situation. Just focus on defense for now. Don’t try to break out again. Leave the Mutated Zombie problem to me."
After saying his piece, Lin Xinghai immediately ended the communication. The reason he’d said that was because, in the half-minute it took them to get here, the other party had just attempted a forced breakout and lost nearly twenty soldiers in the process.
Since his team was about to arrive, there was no need for them to make such pointless sacrifices.
After hanging up, Lin Xinghai said to Little Fatty in a low voice, "Activate the Rocket Jetpack. We’re going in at top speed."
...
On the other side, the communications officer, who hadn’t managed to get a single word in, was completely dumbfounded.
"What did they say?" an officer waiting nearby asked, his face etched with anxiety.
"He said... he’s Lin Xinghai, the number one genius from East Sea Academy, and that we should just focus on defense... He’ll solve the Mutated Zombie problem," the communications officer reported, swallowing nervously.
Upon hearing this, the expressions of the officers inside the Armored Vehicle became quite a sight to behold.
This was especially true for a middle-aged officer lying inside the Armored Vehicle. He had a fist-sized piercing wound in his abdomen, his right leg was twisted and broken, and his left arm had been completely severed. Yet, despite such grievous injuries, he was still alive.
But upon hearing the communications officer’s report, his breathing hitched. "Are all the students from East Sea Academy this arrogant now? He thinks one student can solve a problem of this many Mutated Zombies?"
The officer’s face flushed red, and his wounds even began to seep blood again. He was clearly furious.
He took a deep breath to calm himself before continuing, "If I die here, so be it. But if I make it back, I’m definitely going to have a talk with that old codger Hua Zhenghao about how he disciplines his students."
