Invincible through Touching Corpses

Chapter 658 - 628: Breaking Common Sense (Part 1)

One had to remember that Hua Zhenghao was the dean of East Sea Academy. The man before them who dared to address him so directly was, of course, the main target of this rescue mission: the military’s Divine Demon Realm expert, Chen Yushi.

Hearing Chen Yushi’s words, the military officers inside the vehicle didn’t dare to make a sound.

After all, Chen Yushi was a Divine Demon Realm expert. It was one thing for him to poke fun at the dean of East Sea Academy, but if they tactlessly chimed in, they would just be asking for trouble if word ever got back to the dean.

The atmosphere inside the vehicle was incredibly oppressive. But amid this tense silence, a Squad Leader suddenly spoke in a low voice, "If that person really is Lin Xinghai, then what he said might not be just big talk."

SWISH!

As the Squad Leader finished speaking, the eyes of every officer in the vehicle snapped toward him in unison.

Although the stares made his skin crawl, the Squad Leader swallowed nervously and quickly said, "Uh... I also graduated from a university. Not one of the top three, of course, but I’ve been following this year’s college league pretty closely."

"And out of all the university students, if there’s one I admire the most, it’s definitely this Lin Xinghai."

"He’s only a first-year student, but his true combat power can rival someone at the Peak of the Body Shaping Realm. He’s in no way inferior to the top fourth-year students and is a strong contender for the top ten on the Points leaderboard."

"If the rumors are true, I think he should be able to tie down three to four Third Level Mutated Zombies. If he can do that, we might just be able to break through."

After hearing the Squad Leader’s words, the officers in the vehicle couldn’t help the light that dawned in their eyes.

A Battalion Commander standing beside Chen Yushi couldn’t help but exclaim, "The biggest threat to us is the ten Third Level Mutated Zombies outside. We can handle five of them on our own. If he can really tie down another three or four, then our biggest problem is practically solved."

"Besides, since he’s the number one genius of East Sea Academy, the team he’s assembled can’t be bad, right?" the Battalion Commander asked, looking at the Squad Leader.

"I haven’t looked into the specifics, but they should be quite strong. I heard that all the Special Class Students from his year joined his Xinghai Squad," the Squad Leader said truthfully.

At this, never mind the other officers—even Chen Yushi, a Divine Demon Realm expert, looked somewhat stunned.

As a high-ranking member of the military, he was quite familiar with the training systems of the major universities and certainly understood what kind of people the Special Class Students were.

They were the most elite geniuses, each with a high probability of reaching the Divine Demon Realm. Which one of them wouldn’t be proud and arrogant? How could all of them join the same person’s team?

After his initial shock, the Battalion Commander who had asked the question grew excited. "In that case, it must be a top-tier squad! If Lin Xinghai can hold off those Third Level Mutated Zombies, and the other members of his team can block some of the First and Second Level Mutated Zombies, we might actually be able to break out successfully!"

The other officers now caught on as well and began voicing their own opinions, discussing the feasibility of this breakout.

At this point, Chen Yushi also realized that his previous assessment of Lin Xinghai might have been too one-sided.

’But the problem is, I can’t just take back what I said. I’d be eating my own words!’

So, he snorted coldly and interjected, "Even if that Lin Xinghai is such a genius, he shouldn’t make such absolute claims. He only has the ability to *help* us break out, yet he dares to say he’ll handle all the Mutated Zombies himself."

"He can only get away with it because he’s a student. Once he joins the army, if that kind of arrogant talk causes friendly forces to misjudge a situation during a mission and leads to a disaster, he’ll be sent to a military tribunal."

The other officers just chuckled and didn’t dare to respond.

After saying his piece, Chen Yushi closed his eyes, feigning rest.

But in reality, he had already released his Perception Power, intending to probe the true strength of this Xinghai Squad.

As a Divine Demon Realm expert, even in his heavily injured state, the range of his Perception Power was far greater than Lin Xinghai’s. He instantly detected two Armored Vehicles speeding toward them.

"Huh!" When he got a clear sense of the Armored Vehicles’ appearance, Chen Yushi couldn’t help but let out a soft sound of surprise.

His Perception Power immediately probed more carefully. Soon, his expression shifted several times, and finally, with an unreadable mix of emotions, he couldn’t help but curse, "What a spendthrift!"

Although the other officers were discussing the upcoming breakout plan, most of their attention was still focused on Chen Yushi.

When they saw the constantly changing expressions on his face, their hearts leaped into their throats, thinking some other disaster had occurred. They never expected him to simply mutter, "What a spendthrift."

"Sir, what is it?" the Battalion Commander beside him couldn’t help but ask.

"Turn on the scanners. You should be able to see for yourselves," Chen Yushi said, not wanting to explain further.

The Battalion Commander immediately gestured to a nearby recon officer, who understood at once and quickly began operating the various scanners in front of him.

These included infrared scanners, sonar detectors, metal detectors, as well as life-sign and energy-fluctuation detectors.

The information fed back from the numerous detectors was ultimately reconstructed by the AI system into a real-time image on the screen.

When all the scanners were aimed in the direction of the Xinghai Squad, everyone saw two Armored Vehicles, their Rocket Jetpacks activated, hurtling toward them at a terrifying speed.

Whether it was the menacing ram on the front, the rows of Vibrating Blades on the sides, or the dozen or so automatic machine guns on the roof, the sight left everyone stunned.

None of the officers present were inexperienced. A single glance was enough for them to know that these two Armored Vehicles had been extensively modified.

"My god, a modification like this must cost at least seventy or eighty thousand Huaxia Coins! You could buy several Mechas with that kind of money, and they spent it all on an Armored Vehicle. What a waste!"

"It’s definitely more than that. Look at the size of those things—they’re almost twice as big as a normal Armored Vehicle. This isn’t just a modification; the chassis itself was probably custom-built from the ground up. I’d estimate it’s over a hundred thousand Huaxia Coins."

"You’re only looking at the outside. If they spent that much, the internal instruments and components must be top-of-the-line too. So, the total cost for modifying these two Armored Vehicles could easily be two or three hundred thousand. No wonder Sir called them spendthrifts. For that much money, you might as well save up and buy a Rare Level Mecha."

The officers couldn’t help but break into a flurry of discussion.
