Invincible through Touching Corpses

Chapter 656 - 626: Going to the Rescue (Part 1)

Normally, a squad could only carry one distress flare per mission. Even a top-tier squad like Lin Xinghai’s was no exception.

To see several distress flares launched in succession meant one of two things. Either the person in distress was extremely important—a high-ranking military official or some other dignitary who had access to multiple flares.

Or, other rescue teams had already arrived on the scene and were ordered to launch more flares to amplify the signal.

But in either case, it meant one thing without a doubt: the person in distress was someone of extraordinary importance.

And a person like that was absolutely vital to humanity’s cause.

"Pick up the pace. And get the Cloud Burst Bombs ready," Lin Xinghai said, his expression grim.

Hearing this, the expressions of the others changed slightly.

But no one said a word, and they all began to make preparations nervously.

Little Fatty, in particular, had everyone get the personal missile launchers and Purgatory Bombs ready—all their long-range weaponry.

If they encountered a Fourth Level Mutated Zombie, no one but Lin Xinghai would dare to engage it head-on.

The most they could do was provide a single volley of fire support from a distance. After that, they would have to retreat immediately to avoid holding him back.

As the Armored Vehicle accelerated, its engine let out a low roar, and it barreled down the street toward the target area.

While making their preparations, the squad couldn’t help but glue their eyes to the various detection instruments, hoping to get an advance read on the situation.

Lin Xinghai, however, closed his eyes and unleashed his Perception Power, extending it toward the source of the distress signal.

The green toxic fog didn’t just interfere with detection instruments; it even weakened Perception Power to a certain degree.

However, the effect on Perception Power wasn’t as severe. The detection range of various instruments was reduced to nearly a tenth of their normal capacity.

But for Perception Power, the reduction was far less significant.

Take Lin Xinghai, for example. His normal Perception Range was 3 kilometers, but even with the debilitating effects of the green fog, he could still detect everything within a 2-kilometer radius.

So, after the Armored Vehicle had traveled some distance, Lin Xinghai focused his Perception Power, and a scene of an ongoing battle materialized in his mind.

It was a convoy attempting a breakout. Although it consisted of only five Armored Vehicles, it was being protected by no fewer than ten Mechas.

Lin Xinghai could even make out that two of them were Rare Level Mechas, which meant there were at least two Body Shaping Realm Level experts in the group.

In addition, the team included over a hundred elite soldiers.

He considered them elite because his Perception revealed that among the 100 soldiers, at least 50 of them had reached the Blood Qi Realm Level.

With a lineup of Martial Artists like that, they were only a hair’s breadth away from being one of the military’s ace squads.

These elite soldiers were highly trained. Combined with their military-issued special equipment and coordinated tactics, their combat effectiveness was easily on par with a squad composed entirely of Blood and Qi Realm Martial Artists.

When you factored in the two Rare Level Mechas, their overall combat strength could absolutely rival that of the top academy squads.

And yet, this elite force was currently in a desperate state, struggling just to break through the encirclement.

The reason was simple: they were being besieged by a horde of over one hundred Mutated Zombies.

Frankly, even Lin Xinghai had never seen such a massive horde of Mutated Zombies. After all, they were typically solitary creatures; seeing a dozen or so gathered together was already considered the absolute limit.

But now there were over a hundred of them. ’A scene like this could probably only be found near the Abyssal Passage,’ he thought.

Among this horde of over a hundred Mutated Zombies, at least ten were Third Level Mutated Zombies, comparable in strength to the Body Shaping Realm.

The rest were merely Second and First Level Mutated Zombies, but when they coordinated their attacks, their combined combat power was enough to make one’s skin crawl.

For starters, the nearly ten Spitters in the distance were causing immense problems, unleashing a deluge of venom that blotted out the sky.

On top of that, there were five Blood Worms. The number of Blood-colored Beetles they had released from their bodies was estimated to have already surpassed 500,000.

Such a massive swarm resembled a crimson tide. If the military convoy hadn’t been well-stocked with Burning Bullets and flamethrowers, these Blood-colored Beetles alone could have annihilated them.

Beyond the Mutated Zombies harassing them from afar, the melee types were even more terrifying. A combination of Death Claws, Giant Arms, and Armored Corpses were working in tandem, pinning the squad down so completely that a breakout seemed impossible.

And lurking in the shadows were Hunters, hidden and ready to strike at any moment.

Furthermore, the number of Abyssal Creatures gathering in the area was rapidly increasing. Goaded into a frenzy by the Spitter’s venom, their combat prowess became truly terrifying.

It was no exaggeration to say that the squad having held out this long was a miracle.

Of course, the elite military squad wasn’t entirely alone on the battlefield. To their right, there was another military unit.

However, it was just a regular squad, and they didn’t dare get too close. They could only provide continuous fire support from a safe distance.

On another flank, however, an academy squad had just arrived on the battlefield.

Compared to the military squad, this academy team was far more powerful.

After all, no weak squad would dare to venture this deep into the green toxic fog.

This particular academy squad had no fewer than three Body Shaping Realm Level Martial Artists. All three had already activated their Divine Demon Bodies and were rushing toward the edge of the battle.

But even these peerless geniuses from the academies didn’t dare act recklessly in the face of over a hundred Mutated Zombies. Even with the three Body Shaping Realm students fighting at full strength, backed by long-range fire support from their teammates, they could only manage to tie down a small number of Mutated Zombies on the outer edge of the horde.

This had little impact on the battle as a whole.

At the very least, they were completely incapable of rescuing the besieged convoy on their own.

At this rate, the besieged military convoy could only hold on for another three or four minutes at most.

To Lin Xinghai’s surprise, a member of the newly arrived academy squad, as if acting on some new order, also pulled out a distress flare and launched it into the sky.

Soon, a third signal flare lit up the sky.

The sight made the hearts of the other Xinghai Squad members pound with anxiety.

Lin Xinghai, however, let out a long sigh of relief now that he understood the situation.
