Chapter 13 : Battle of the Demonic Beasts
“What exactly is happening out there? Did other demonic beasts show up?”
Listening to the intermittent noises echoing through the forest, a trace of curiosity flashed through Su Xiao’s mind.
“I should probably leave this place. But wandering around recklessly could lead me straight into unknown dangers… And I’m not familiar with this area at all, so I have no idea which direction is safe.”
Su Xiao hesitated. She tried to remain cautious, yet at the same time she couldn’t suppress her curiosity.
What kind of creature could possibly create such a disturbance?
“Well… if danger exists either way, I might as well sneak over and observe the situation. With Miss System around, I can at least determine whether they’re a threat to me.”
Curiosity ultimately won.
Following the direction of the sounds, Su Xiao carefully crept toward the area. With the help of the moonlight, she soon arrived at her destination.
What came into view were three unusual beasts.
One was a crocodile, its entire body covered in earth-yellow scales.
One was a giant black wolf, roughly three times the size of any wild wolf Su Xiao had ever known.
The last was a flying bee-like insect, about the size of a basketball, the smallest among the three.
The three demonic beasts were locked in a tense standoff.
[Armored Crocodile]
Mid-level Demonic Beast.
A predatory beast that lives in underground rivers, its body wrapped in tough scales.
[Dread Wolf]
Mid-level Demonic Beast.
A wolf-type demonic beast found across forests, plains, and highlands. They are pack creatures; a gathered pack of dread wolves can force even Refined Spirits to retreat.
[Killer Bee King]
High-level Demonic Beast.
Within a swarm of killer bees, only the strongest may become the king and gain the right to mate with the hive’s empress. An extremely aggressive demonic beast with considerable danger.
From Su Xiao’s perspective, the scene looked rather strange.
Two enormous beasts were facing off against a basketball-sized insect. It felt oddly disproportionate, like lions hunting a rabbit.
The Dread Wolf suddenly sprinted forward. Its massive body kicked up clumps of dirt as it ran. The tremors Su Xiao had sensed earlier came from this giant wolf charging across the ground. Despite its size, the wolf was incredibly fast.
But the Killer Bee King was even faster. Just as the wolf lunged, the bee suddenly split into several afterimages.
The wolf pounced and destroyed one of the illusions, but at that instant, a flash appeared behind it.
The Bee King’s stinger struck like lightning, and blood sprayed into the air.
The Dread Wolf growled in pain but managed to avoid a fatal hit. Seizing the brief opening, it quickly retreated and widened the distance between them.
The Bee King did not pursue.
At that moment, the Armored Crocodile’s massive tail swept across the ground, launching a storm of shattered stones. The flying debris wiped out the remaining afterimages, but still failed to strike the Bee King’s true body.
After this brief exchange, the Dread Wolf had suffered a minor injury, while the Bee King remained completely unharmed.
Watching the battle unfold, Su Xiao observed the terrifying destructive power of these demonic beasts.
The wolf’s charge left deep footprints in the ground.
The Bee King’s lightning-fast stinger had pierced through nearby trees.
Even the crocodile’s tail strike had blasted apart branches with flying stones.
Su Xiao quickly realized something: without using Frost-Yin Fox Fire, she absolutely could not produce that level of destruction.
“These demonic beasts… every one of them is stronger than me.” She analyzed the situation carefully. “Especially that Bee King. Its speed is terrifying. With its aerial advantage, it could easily become a fatal threat to me.”
That speed was the truly frightening part. It was so fast that Su Xiao doubted she could even react in time. If her Frost-Yin Fox Fire missed, she would be in extremely serious danger.
Satisfied that her curiosity had been answered, Su Xiao prepared to quietly leave the area. She had no intention of provoking these creatures. Thinking of herself as some kind of protagonist while treating others as weaklings might be fun as a joke, but if she actually believed that, she’d be nothing more than an idiot.
Just as she was about to slip away, the Killer Bee King suddenly spoke.
“You still refuse to give up. Then don’t blame me.”
Su Xiao was momentarily startled.
After listening carefully, she realized the Bee King hadn’t actually spoken aloud. Instead, its buzzing carried meaning, forming words directly inside her mind. She quickly realized something.
This was probably another convenience granted by the system. It seemed she truly didn’t need to worry about language barriers anymore.
