Chapter 81: Encounter With Renzo’s Lapdog
Chapter 81
Alex could have decided to enter a taxi if he wanted, but he just wanted to enjoy the nice, wonderful moment. Just walking down the sidewalk, he could feel every part of his body brimming with new found power.
His body felt lighter, his senses were clearly stronger than before, he could even pick up the distant sounds of the whispers of people several blocks away if he concentrated his hearing in that particular direction. He had to admit that being in C Rank was clearly more obvious than being in D Rank. If D Rank had been a pistol, then C Rank was a freaking sub-machine gun.
Beside him, invisible to the world but vivid in his peripheral vision, the chibi was following him, her tiny blue dress would occasionally flutter as she pointed out every high-rise building with the excitement of a kid in a candy store.
Sometimes Alex even found himself wondering if the creator of the system had put a child’s consciousness in the system.
[Oh! Look at that one, Alex! The one with the rooftop helipad! We could totally fit a training gym up there!]
She chirped with wide sparkling eyes, but Alex just offered a faint, amused smile at the cute little gremlin. As good as the building sounded, it was way above his initial budget... Besides, he didn’t need a place that would end up going down in five years from now.
After walking for no more than thirty minutes, they finally arrived at Lux & Stone, one of the city’s most prestigious real estate firms, and an establishment that looked more like a modern art museum than a real estate office.
The glass doors were tinted with a deep gold, and even the doorman looked like he earned more in a week than what he had earned in a year from his previous life.
[Ooh, fancy! But try not to embarrass us Alex, we’re trying to look like old money today]
’Scoff. You talk like you’re the one that’ll even be embarrassed if you did something.’ Alex thought back, stepping inside. ’Besides just relax. I’ve faced underworld rulers and crazy assassins so I don’t think a real estate agency is going to make me embarrass myself.’
Stepping inside, the interior was a masterclass in minimalist luxury with white marble floors, soft ambient music, and air conditioning so perfect that it felt like being bathed in a spring breeze.
At that moment, a young pretty woman, probably in her early twenties, wearing a sharp blazer approached him, her professional smile faltering for a microsecond as she took in his appearance.
Sure, the young man standing in front of her was beautiful in ways that could make even the gods themselves jealous, but the ordinary clothes he wore were kind of a huge turn down and made him look like someone who couldn’t afford to buy a luxury building here.
Nonetheless, she still offered him a professional smile, and asked.
"Welcome to Lux & Stone. Do you have an appointment, Sir?"
"No, I don’t have any appointments. I’m looking for a residence to move into. I want something private, secure, and ready for immediate move-in. And don’t worry, as long as it meets my expectations, I’m ready to buy it right away."
The woman’s eyes lit up.
"Of course sir. If you would follow me to the VIP lounge, I can pull up all of our premium listings for you to make a pick."
"Alright, lead the way."
As they walked toward a secluded area of the office, Alex’s eyes were drawn to a flyer showcasing a stunning property called The Diamond Heights Penthouse.
It was a sprawling, two story masterpiece overlooking the bay, featuring floor to ceiling reinforced glass, a private gym, and a rooftop pool. The price tag was even surprisingly around seven hundred twenty thousand dollars.
It was just perfect. From high enough to offer just the right amount of privacy for testing his abilities and prestigious enough to match his face as the largest shareholder of BluePeak Corporation. Plus, it wasn’t overly expensive for now, but in the distant future, buildings like this would cost a fortune.
"I want to see this one," Alex said, pointing toward the flyer.
The woman widened her eyes, before composing herself and nodding right away. Just as she was about to lead him toward the direction of the building, a loud obnoxious voice rang out.
"I told you, I don’t care if it’s fucking reserved! If I want to see the property, I will see it now!"
Entering the room was a young man who looked like the poster child for a snobbish second generation rich kid with zero common sense, and an ego the size of a planet. He was decked out in designer clothes that screamed for attention, his chestnut hair was slicked back so tightly that Alex couldn’t help but wonder if the man didn’t feel any pain.
Behind him followed a middle aged man, who looked like his butler or at least something close to that. Then behind them, a bodyguard who looked like he could give Tyson a run for his money, followed.
At the beginning, Alex had a vague impression of the arrogant young man, but then his eyes widened slightly when he remembered who he was.
His name was Julian Vance, the son of Rick Vance, a business mogul who had chains of luxury hotels scattered across the city, and a net worth of at least four hundred million dollars.
Julian was basically a mid-boss in the world of annoying rich kids and most importantly, he was one of the loyal lapdogs that had been following Renzo Kade like a dog that night.
Julian froze as soon as he spotted Alex, his eyes traveling from the flip flops on Alex’s feet, to the casual denim jean and grey T-shirt he had worn today. A sneer slowly formed on his lips.
"Well, well, well. What a small world we live in. If it isn’t the little pretty face who was clinging to Nyx at the gala. What are you doing here? Did Nyx give you a generous allowance for your services, or are you just here to window shop and imagine what a real man’s life looks like?"
Alex didn’t even pay him any attention. He just turned toward the slightly pale woman beside him and said calmly.
"Let’s go to the Diamond Heights Penthouse and check it out. I don’t want to waste all my time here, I still have other places to visit today."
Julian’s face turned a shade of purple at being ignored. He clenched his fist tightly and said.
"You dare ignore me, you peasant! Fine!" He turned towards the middle aged man beside him. "Thomas, tell the agent that we’re doubling the down payment for whatever he was planning to buy just now."
The female agent looked between them, her lips trembling.
"Mr. Vance, the gentleman was here first..."
"I don’t care who was here first," Julian snapped. "I want it because he wants it. And I don’t care how much it cost as long as trash like him can’t get something like this."
[Alex, are you really going to let this brain-dead pipsqueak talk to you like that?]
The system hissed with her hands on her hips as she glared at Julian.
[Just one little Deathfrost shard to the face and I assure you, he’d never be able to talk again!]
’No need, he’s just a waste of energy. There’s no need wasting my energy on an entitled spoiled brat with anger management issues, I’ll just be bringing myself to his level.’ Alex thought calmly.
"If Mr. Vance wants the house so badly, let him have it," Alex said nonchalantly while waving his hand. "I don’t argue with certain people lapdogs over toys. Besides, there are plenty of houses in this city."
Julian let out a triumphant laugh.
"That’s right! Run back to your so-called woman and tell her that you couldn’t even buy yourself a little house! But I doubt that someone like Nyx would even pay attention to trash like you, especially after using you to block Renzo advances last time."
Alex simply walked out of the lounge without looking back. He could feel Julian’s annoying taunts following him down the hall, but he didn’t really care. To ordinary people, Julian Vance might have been a god among men, but to him, the moron was nothing more than a fly buzzing around a lion. There was no victory in swatting such a fly; it would only get its disgusting blood on your hands.
"Alright let’s go try another agency without an annoying fly there," Alex muttered as he reached the street.
[Hmph! You’re way too patient,]
The chibi grumbled, though she looked a bit impressed by his composed demeanor back there.
[But I guess you’re right. Let that idiot spend a million and a half on a house he doesn’t even need just to feel big]
Not less than ten minutes later, Alex entered Empire Real Estate, a slightly more discreet but equally high-end firm. He approached the first agent he saw; a slightly chubby girl with cute features who looked stunned the moment she saw him, before asking with a blush on her cute face.
"W-welcome to Empire Real Estate... What kind of house would you like to purchase?"
"I need a good penthouse with exclusive access, reinforced glass, top notch security systems and it must be available for immediate move-in. As for the price range, I want something within the limit of eight hundred and fifty thousand dollars."
The girl’s eyes lit up.
"You are in luck, sir. We have the Le Sommet Impérial penthouse, which is basically a french fortress of the highest luxury below a million dollars. It was built by a recluse french business man not too long ago, and the penthouse has direct elevator access, a swimming pool at the rooftop, a state of the art private gym, and it uses a specialized reinforced composite for the walls. Plus it’s all just eight hundred and twenty thousand dollars."
"Perfect. I’ll take...."
Suddenly, the doors behind him swung open again with a loud bang. Alex didn’t even need to turn around to know who it was.
