Building The Perfect Harem With My Heavenly Desire System

Chapter 74: Assassination Of Nyx (4)

Chapter 74

"I’m going to start with you, betrayer!" Gnash bellowed. And launched himself at Doris, with his sharp pitch-black claws carving deep grooves into the concrete as he gained speed.

"Oh no you don’t!" Alex yelled while delivering a punch straight to the abomination’s flank, sending it skidding dozens of meters away.

He then turned toward Doris and commanded.

"I’ll handle the big guy over here, you go face the mysterious man over there. With your ability to see seconds into the future, you should be able to counter his phasing ability."

Doris’s usually indifferent eyes widened with shock before she muttered.

"Wait, how did you know about my power? Oh, you must have figured it out from our fight a few days back, right?"

"Yes, now stop talking and go. The beast man is already regaining himself."

She nodded and dashed toward John’s direction, who was already walking toward them with his hands tucked inside his pocket. She looked at the man with a frown and activated her Awakened ability.

At that moment, her normally dark eyes suddenly turned light purple with a small distinct design that looked like that of a clock which was faintly visible within them. John also wiped away the usually dismissive gaze in his eyes and activated his Awakened ability.

In a blur of motion, Doris leaped toward the translucent figure of John, her light purple eyes glowed faintly and the barely visible clock-like design began to rotate.

To an outsider she would have looked like she was basically running into a suicide mission, but in Doris’s mind, the next few seconds were already playing out in high definition.

She saw the exact millisecond that John would phase to avoid her strike and the precise moment that he would solidify to counter it.

Alex meanwhile watched as Gnash shook off his body like the attack had barely done anything to him, and let out an angered growl.

"You! You dare stop me from killing that traitorous bitch. Fine I’ll make sure to kill you instead by ripping your still beating heart out of your chest and feasting on it."

"Has anyone ever told you, you talk too much. If you want to kill me just come and get this over with, instead of spewing crap."

With boiling anger, Gnash roared and lunged forward with the force of a runaway freight train. Alex didn’t hesitate and met him head on. While he might have lacked a flashy ability or a broken skill for combat, he was still a finely tuned instrument of raw physical prowess.

Being at most two times stronger and faster than any average early realm Awakened meant he was a beast in his own right. Plus the fact that he had faced many life and death battles with monsters powerful enough to give Gnash a run for his money, made him know how to handle someone like Gnash without suffering too much damage.

Gnash swung a massive, clawed hand that could have easily decapitated a normal man with one swipe, but Alex dipped his shoulder, missing the incoming attack. Gnash’s missed attack then struck a nearby shipping crate beside them, shattering it into tiny splinters.

While inside the beast guard, Alex drove his fist straight into Gnash’s solar plexus.

Boom!

The impact sounded like a sledgehammer hitting a concrete wall. Gnash groaned, but his beast ability allowed him to shrug off the pain with ease. He swung a backhand that Alex barely managed to block by crossing his arms.

The force of it sent the young man skidding ten feet across the shipyard, but he managed to steady himself by firmly planting his foot against the ground.

"Is that all you’ve got, little man?" Gnash hissed with a heavily distorted voice that sounded between a beast and a human. "I’m going to peel the skin from your bones and swallow it up in large chunks!"

Meanwhile, Doris was engaged in a fight that looked more like a surreal dance. John was already beginning to grow frustrated. Every time he attempted to solidify his hand into a blade and pierce her heart, Doris would duck it easily as if she already knew what he was going to do, and counter back with lightning fast strikes that landed only during the micro-seconds he had to become solid to maintain his footing.

"Give it up girl. You can’t touch something that is intangible." He whispered while flickering his form from solid to incorporeal.

"I don’t need to touch you," Doris replied, her voice eerily calm as she glanced a second into the future. "All I just need to do is wait for you to burn out your primordial essence first."

"Hmph!"

Back at the center of the shipyard, Silas was fumbling for a concealed weapon in his pocket and occasionally he would dart his eyes toward the battle, praying for his men to finish it fast. Vaughan, meanwhile, had already retreated so far into the shadows that only his trembling hands were visible behind a stack of barrels.

"Vaughan, you coward! Get your ass out here and help me!" Silas screamed , finally pulling out a heavy-caliber revolver from his suit.

He aimed it at Nyx with a cold murderous glint in his eyes and before he could pull the trigger, an unexpected shot rang out from the darkness of the rafters. And the bullet struck the gun out of his hand. The metal sparkled as it spun away into the harbor.

"Looks like my snipers have finally arrived." Nyx said without looking back, as she continued to watch Alex trade blows with the monstrous Gnash.

Watching their movements she noticed a weakness about Gnash’s ability and deduced something; While the ability gave him an increase in strength and defense, it also reduced his speed, so if Alex could use his superior speed to constantly act like an annoying fly then there was a huge chance that Gnash would lose his temper and turn feral, effectively making it easier to win.

"Alex! What he has in strength, he lacks in speed, so use your speed to frustrate him and make him lose his temper, so that he’ll lose all reason like a mindless beast!" Nyx yelled out.

Alex nodded once he heard her voice. He too had realized that while Gnash was stronger, he was also becoming predictable in his rage. So with his mind racing, he calculated the distance, exact timing and a suitable weapon needed to put the beast down.

Though he didn’t have any weapon because he had forgotten to stock his spatial storage space with knives and the gun from earlier was empty, the shipyard was still filled with plenty of makeshift weapons.

As Gnash lunged for a final, crushing bear hug, Alex decided not to move away, instead he moved forward, grabbed a heavy rusted anchor chain that was coiled on the floor beside him, and used all his strength to wrap it around Gnash’s neck in a single, fluid motion, then slipped behind him.

The beast roared and dug his claws into the metal chain, trying to rip it out of his neck, but Alex planted his feet deeply into the ground, gritted his teeth and bent his back, pulling with everything he had.

Gnash eye’s bulged as the chain sank deeper and deeper, until a loud sickening crack echoed throughout the shipyard. With a loud thud that raised quite a bit of dust, the monstrous figure of Gnash collapsed to the ground with his neck completely broken.

Alex collapsed to the ground, completely spent, and grinned at the bastard lying dead on the floor. Even though Gnash couldn’t compare to some of those beasts he had fought in the training realm, he was still an intelligent person unlike those mindless beings, so fighting him had been a bit troublesome.

Nevertheless, he had finally emerged victorious.

At that exact moment, Nyx suddenly arrived with a gun in her hand and fired multiple shots at the dead body of Gnash, destroying his brain, and heart before finally stopping.

Bang! Bang! Bang!

"Why did you still have to shoot him? He was already dead?" Alex asked with a puzzled expression.

Nyx glanced at him calmly before responding.

"Gnash Awakened ability also grants him healing, so the only effective way of killing him is to target his brain and heart."

"Thanks." With a groan he pushed himself off the ground. "Now It’s time to go help Doris deal with that other guy."

Nyx stopped him with a palm to the chest.

"And what exactly can you do exhausted like this? Sit down and get some rest, Doris already has it handled. Do you think a phaser can handle someone who can see some seconds into the future?"

"But..."

"No but! I said, sit down and rest."

Alex had no choice but to comply with her demand. Besides she was right, if there was anyone who could defeat John, it was Doris.

Doris meanwhile continued to dodge the attacks of the phantom John, while delivering measured strikes of her own. On one or two occasions, her efforts had yielded results and left deep wounds on both his left cheek and right arm.

She watched as John began to grow more and more frustrated with each missed attack. Since the start of their fight she had not suffered any form of injury, but her eyes were also consuming a massive amount of primordial essence.

She estimated that she could probably use her ability for about five more minutes before her essence would essentially run out. Instantly her light purple eyes gleamed and the faintly visible clock spun rapidly, as a future spun into existence before her eyes.

With a wry smile she stopped dodging and allowed the incoming attack to pierce her shoulder.
