Chapter 693: It’s Not That I Don’t Want to Go
’Ugh, a whole week has passed and his wound still hasn’t healed. He even whines about the pain all day long. He’s completely shameless.’
She brought the meal upstairs. Leona Grant was at work.
He was propped up against the headboard, a black laptop resting on his lap. His fingers flew across the keyboard as he raced against time. With his eyes still glued to the screen, he reached for the coffee on the bedside table and took a sip.
But he had barely taken a sip when he saw Annabelle Linton standing there with his food, staring at him with a blank expression.
Quick as a flash, Leona Grant shut his laptop, scrambled out of bed, and said with a grin, "Time to eat! Playing games gets so boring."
Annabelle: "..."
’But I clearly saw him working.’
Annabelle placed the food on the table. It was a simple meal—just plain white rice with a couple of side dishes.
’Unbelievable. With so many servants in the house, he still insisted on waiting for her to cook. It was fine when she wasn’t busy, but what if she was? Would he just starve to death?’
Annabelle handed him his chopsticks and scolded him with a stern face, "Don’t you know you have stomach problems? You’re a grown man, how can you not know to eat on time? If I’m not around one day, are you just going to stop eating for the rest of your life?"
Leona Grant pursed his lips, looking at her with displeasure.
Annabelle sighed. "I was just making a point. From now on, you need to eat on time, understand?"
"I know."
Leona Grant looked at the food on the table, then glanced at Annabelle, but made no move to eat.
"Eat. What’s wrong?"
"Why don’t you feed me? My arm is injured. I can’t lift it, so I can’t eat."
"..." Annabelle stared at him, speechless. "Then how were you using your computer just now?"
Leona Grant frowned and said in a low voice, "I think I strained my arm just now... Um, can we eat first? I’m so hungry..."
Annabelle: "..."
’I’d give that performance an 82 out of 100. The remaining points are for sheer nerve.’
’It’s a real shame he didn’t become an actor!’
Annabelle’s brow twitched. Under his intense gaze, she picked up his bowl, gathered some food with the chopsticks, and sat down beside him.
’So childish.’
She lifted a bite of rice to his lips and said in a tone of disgust, "Your wound is already healed. You can’t keep putting off work. Go to the office tomorrow."
Over the past week, she could tell that he was actually very busy. Sometimes, after she had fallen asleep for the night, he would secretly pull out his laptop to work.
Work was important, no matter what. She knew she was the reason he didn’t want to go to the office, which made Annabelle feel rather guilty.
She didn’t want to be a distraction for him.
Leona Grant swallowed the rice. Chewing, he said with a perfectly straight face, "It’s not that I don’t want to go. You saw how serious this injury is. What if I go to the office and aggravate the wound?"
Annabelle was so exasperated she almost laughed.
If she didn’t know his personality, she would have mistaken him for the type of person who groans and moans about nothing.
She continued feeding him and said calmly, "Just go to the office. Don’t let this affect your job. I’m not working right now anyway, so how about this: I’ll come to your company every day at noon to bring you lunch and apply your medicine. Would that work?"
She’d just have to do this for a few days. Once his arm was better, she would stop. Otherwise, knowing his incorrigible nature, she had no doubt he would use this as an excuse to stay away from the office for an entire month!
If something happened to the company because of that, wouldn’t she be the one to blame?
More importantly, this man was always using his minor ailment to take advantage of her. It was getting ridiculous.
That was what Annabelle was thinking. Leona Grant, however, was thinking something else entirely.
