Chapter 214: Time is a Quack Doctor for All Ailments
She watched the dumbfounded expressions on the guests’ faces as she despondently removed her veil and walked forward like a puppet.
No one tried to stop her, nor did anyone come forward to comfort her.
In that moment, she felt truly pathetic.
"Annabelle, Annabelle!" The bride, Tiana Taylor, called out to her.
Annabelle Linton snapped back to reality, realizing her eyes were wet with tears.
"What are you thinking about?" Tiana Taylor walked over to her. "I’m the one getting married. What are you crying for?"
Annabelle Linton gave a faint smile and wiped away her tears. "I just can’t bear to see you go."
"What’s there to be sad about? If you feel that way, then just be happy for my sake, you hear?" Tiana Taylor chided her. "I made sure to invite Aaron this time. You two have known each other for so long, so how are you not together yet?
Annabelle, I’ve seen how Aaron has felt about you all these years, so don’t play dumb. He likes you so much, and he’s such a good guy. Are you really content just being friends? Enough is enough. Where else are you going to find a boyfriend that good? Seize the opportunity, you silly girl!"
"I know," Annabelle Linton said, her gaze lowered, her expression still detached.
’She didn’t know what feelings Aaron Wyatt had for her, but she knew she could never be with him.’
’Because she wasn’t worthy of him anymore, and she wouldn’t ruin him.’
’Just being able to be friends with him was something she felt she had stolen. If she hadn’t been reborn, she would never have had this chance.’
’So, no matter what, she wouldn’t be selfish and take everything for herself.’
’Right now, she was just selfishly enjoying her time with him. The moment he found a girlfriend, she would be sure to stay away.’
"Oh, you!" Tiana Taylor looked at Annabelle Linton with exasperation, not knowing what to say.
The wedding ceremony began soon after.
Champagne, the beach, delicious food, crowds of people—the air was overflowing with bliss.
Throughout the entire ceremony, Aaron Wyatt’s gaze was fixed on the figure standing behind the bride.
His dark gaze held a profound, lingering tenderness.
He watched the bride and groom exchange rings, imagining it was him and Annabelle Linton up there.
’Annabelle, I’ll give you a wedding just like this one day.’
Under a clear blue sky, the wedding proceeded smoothly. After all the formalities were complete, the bride and groom began making their rounds to toast the guests.
The groom’s family was also quite wealthy, so many people had come to the wedding.
’But not as many as there were at her own wedding.’
’Here, everyone offered sincere blessings. At her wedding, however, everyone was just there to curry favor with Leona Grant.’
Annabelle Linton sat in a corner, watching everything around her, feeling as if she had truly wasted her previous life.
’How ironic. How laughable.’
’She had thought that, by living a new life, she could become indifferent to it all.’
’But that was just what she’d thought.’
’Time was a quack who claimed to cure all ills, but it only ever healed the superficial wounds.’
’The pain Leona Grant had caused her was branded deep into her very bones.’
Overwhelmed by the long-suppressed pain, Annabelle Linton started drinking glass after glass as if to vent, not even sure what she was trying to accomplish.
’She just wanted to stop thinking, to stop the ache in her heart.’
Her eyes grew hot and welled with tears as she choked on her drink.
"Annabelle!" Aaron Wyatt rushed to her side, putting an arm around her and patting her back to help her catch her breath. "Drink slowly, don’t choke. You’re going to feel awful later."
Tears streamed down Annabelle Linton’s face as she hugged Aaron Wyatt, saying miserably, "Aaron Wyatt, I feel so awful..."
A flicker of emotion passed through Aaron Wyatt’s eyes. He slowly patted her back and soothed in a low voice, "There, there. If you feel awful, then stop drinking. Be good and stay still. I’ll take you home in a bit."
...
The moment Leona Grant stepped out of his car, someone came forward to greet him.
The groom’s father was all smiles. "Thank you so much for coming to my son’s wedding, Mr. Grant. Your presence is a great honor."
"Mm."
Leona Grant grunted faintly in acknowledgment and entered the villa, where his eyes immediately fell upon the two people locked in an embrace.
His expression instantly darkened.
