Chapter 665: Teach You to Run Your Mouth (Part 1)
Vera Xavier smiled softly at the sight of Sheldon Caldwell. She realized that Sheldon was actually a great brother. Although he could seem a bit unreliable at times, he genuinely cared for his family.
It was already 9:50 PM when Vera Xavier got back to campus. She sprinted back to her dorm. The dorm manager was just about to lock the doors when Vera quickly dashed inside. The dorm manager frowned and chided her, "It’s almost ten and you’re just getting back. Be earlier next time!"
Vera immediately agreed with a sincere attitude, then said with a smile, "Ma’am, you can’t be thirty yet, can you? You’re the most beautiful dorm manager I’ve ever seen, much prettier than all the others!"
The dorm manager was almost fifty, and she scolded Vera with a laugh. "You liberal arts students have mouths as sweet as honey. Let me tell you, even if you flatter me to no end, I still won’t open the door for you if you’re late again!"
"Ma’am, how can you say that? Do I look like the kind of undisciplined person who needs you to bend the rules for her?" Vera said with a laugh. "And anyone can tell you’re the type of great beauty who’s both dependable and principled. You must have had so many suitors when you were young! I’m so envious!"
After saying her piece, she hurried upstairs. After all, it was almost time for lights out.
The corners of the dorm manager’s mouth turned up. Everyone loves a good compliment. So, for the first time ever, lights out was delayed by three minutes.
For Vera Xavier, those three minutes were just enough to quickly wash up.
By then, there was no more hot water in the dorm. Fiona Wright placed her thermos in front of Vera and said, "I got this water for you. You’ve been sweating all day at military training; you should at least wipe yourself down."
Vera hadn’t expected Fiona Wright to have gotten hot water for her. A warm feeling instantly spread through her heart. The corners of her mouth lifted. "Thank you!"
Fiona Wright smiled. "We’re roommates. No need to be so formal."
This was Vera’s first time experiencing communal living like this. In her past life, she had seen news reports about terrible roommates. She sighed internally. ’I’m so lucky to have met such wonderful roommates.’
When military training began the next day, Vera felt that the instructors were looking at her a little differently. ’Sheldon really needs to do a better job managing his subordinates!’ she thought to herself.
At the same time, a rumor began to spread around campus. It was said that The Devil Instructor, Sheldon Caldwell, had taken a girl out last night. It had just been too dark at the time for anyone to see who the girl was.
Hearing this rumor gave Vera a massive headache. She was incredibly glad she had been careful to hide her face when she went out yesterday. Otherwise, those troublemaking girls would have surely tried to stir up drama over it.
It wasn’t that she was afraid of this kind of thing, but she found the idea of being caught up in a romantic scandal with her own brother to be really strange.
She was also thankful that this was happening during military training, when all the girls wore the same uniform. Otherwise, she probably would have been recognized.
She quietly decided that she could never go with Sheldon Caldwell to see Winter Sullivan again. She had been a bit too hasty when she went to find Sheldon yesterday.
But if she had to do it all over again, she still would have. She was worried about Winter Sullivan.
She had never experienced this kind of feeling before. She didn’t know if it was the bond of blood, or if it was because she and Winter Sullivan had a natural affinity for each other, or maybe both?
