Vera Xavier let out a soft sigh, a faint smile gracing her lips. ’Whatever the reason,’ she thought, ’this is actually pretty nice.’

The second day of military training ramped up in difficulty. Fortunately, the students had a week to acclimate, so even though it was getting tougher, they could grit their teeth and endure.

The principal, Lane Yancey, had been keeping a close eye on the freshmen’s military training. Since Sheldon Caldwell was the chief instructor this time, the increased difficulty was well within his expectations.

But seeing the fiery intensity of the training on campus today, he felt as if he had stepped onto a real military base.

He felt from the bottom of his heart that this was what real military training should be. The Dean of Students, however, stood beside him and said worriedly, "Principal, don’t you think this training is a bit too difficult? Several students have already been injured."

"I think it’s just right." Lane Yancey smiled faintly. "Besides, since it’s military training, it should look and feel like actual training."

The Dean of Students looked like he wanted to say more but held his tongue. Lane Yancey asked him, "Have any students asked to withdraw from the training?"

"There were a few at the beginning, but Deputy General Manager Caldwell suppressed them all," the Dean of Students replied.

The ones who dared to request withdrawal at this point were all students with connections, but those connections were completely useless in front of Sheldon Caldwell.

Sheldon Caldwell simply didn’t play those games. The parents of those students were likely only on the same level as him, and his reputation in Veridia was formidable. Although he came from a prominent family, he had risen to his current position entirely on his own merit. Across the country, very few people could compete with him in terms of either backing or personal strength.

Furthermore, after he proposed that any student who didn’t participate in the training for non-medical reasons would be expelled—a policy that received Lane Yancey’s full support—no one dared to try and pull strings anymore.

This was the fundamental reason why, despite the increased difficulty, not a single person dared to skip the training, aside from a few students with legitimate health issues.

Lane Yancey smiled faintly. "Well, isn’t that a good thing? What are you so worried about?"

The Dean of Students felt that ever since Sheldon Caldwell became the chief instructor for Veridia University’s military training, their principal had also become tougher.

Just then, Sheldon Caldwell strode over. Every time the Dean of Students saw Sheldon, he felt the man’s gaze was as sharp as a knife, and an inexplicable fear would rise in his heart. Seeing him approach now, the dean quickly said to the principal, "I still have some things to take care of, so I’ll get back to it."

Lane Yancey gave a slight nod. After glancing at the retreating Dean of Students, Sheldon Caldwell said loudly to Lane Yancey, "Principal, your Dean of Students has no backbone. Shouldn’t you consider replacing him?"

Sheldon Caldwell had already found out that it was the Dean of Students who had replaced Susan Caldwell as the freshman representative for the opening speech. That was why he’d had a low opinion of the man from the start.

The Dean of Students hadn’t gotten far. When he heard those words, his knees went weak, and he nearly stumbled. ’I was just trying to suck up to the Caldwell Family,’ he thought miserably. ’Does he have to be so harsh?’

Lane Yancey just smiled and changed the subject. "Did you need something from me?"

"Nothing major," Sheldon Caldwell said casually. "I was just thinking of taking this year’s freshmen to compete against the new cadets at the military academy."

"You’re the chief instructor. During the training period, these students are all your people. You call the shots," Lane Yancey said with a smile. "You don’t need to ask me about things like this."

"You’re the principal, and this is a big deal. How could I not discuss it with you first?" Sheldon Caldwell replied with a smile.
