Spirit's Ascension

Chapter 138— Holy Damn

"Son of chaos," Ernest muttered, obviously confused about what he was just called.

Before he could think about why he was called that, the voice sounded again. "Ohhh, it seems I spoke too early, hahaha." "You don’t know who you are yet.

"Who are you?" Ernest asked bewilderedly and with a hint of vigilance in his voice.

"Who I am doesn’t matter; the only thing that matters is who you are," the voice said, trying to act mysterious intentionally.

Before Ernest could respond, the voice continued. d

"After studying your body, now I understand why I was awakened so early. You had contact with someone blessed with a shard of order rekindling the inner power within your body." The voice with a goofy voice.

"So lucky, I wish I was that lucky," it said, feeling dejected.

As soon as Ernest heard that, he started pondering about who the person who was blessed with a shard of order could be, and after thinking for a while, his eyes flung wide open. "Could it be Bryce?" he thought.

"With your reaction, it seems you have realized who it is. Be careful of that person; you both are destined to clash more in the future, and it isn’t going to be just play like it is now."

Ernest was still not completely convinced all of this was real, didn’t even take all of what he was hearing seriously, and kept wondering, "Could it really be Bryce?"

"Oh, it seems the stored energy is running out so soon. What kind of fight did you even have?" the voice said dejectedly.

"Before I go, let me leave you with some things to hold on to. These things are very important, and you should always have them at the back of your mind. Firstly, as a son of chaos, certain worldly rules don’t apply to you. Chaos is meant to shatter order, not follow rules; this will manifest in special ways in the future," the voice said seriously.

"So nothing is stopping you from having a child with every woman you meet, hahahahahah," the voice said half-jokingly, half-seriously, as if he actually believed it was possible.

"Secondly, strive hard to get to a very special place and grow as strong as you can. That is the only place you can truly call home. Strive hard and live well, son of chaos," the voice said as it was growing fainter.

"The power of chaos shouldn’t be feared as evil; if any power should be feared, it should be the power of order with its twisted structure. Beware of the shards of order."

"And also remember, everything belongs to chaos, but chaos belongs to no one," the voice said before finally disappearing.

"Wait, I have some questions," Ernest called out, but he received no reply.

Ernest couldn’t help but lampoon inwardly, "When you know you didn’t have much time, why did you spend so much time making jokes?"

Soon after, he was shocked to see the darkness slowly receding, something that only happens when he is about to wake up.

"So soon?" He wondered but didn’t fight it as he slowly woke up.

******* Real world *******

After waking up, Ernest sat up pondering about everything he just experienced in that dream world.

He started by trying to organize his thoughts: "Firstly, Bryce is supposedly blessed with a shard of order, and I am supposedly the son of chaos. Wait, doesn’t that make us enemies? Ohh, that’s why I always get the urge to punch him in the face."

Secondly, I am supposedly someone that is capable of breaking the world rules. What is that supposed to even mean?" Ernest said, completely confused, "Wait, wait, wait, is it possible that the machine that checks our assimilation potential and potion slot malfunctioned because of my specialness?" Ernest thought happily, trying to ignore how unlikely that is.

"How is that even possible? I am just a regular human born from just slightly powerful devourers,"he thought.

"Now that I think about it, there’s a story I refuse to believe deep in my heart, a story Talia and Julian told, a story I haven’t been willing to accept," Ernest thought back to that night.

****** A night, long ago ********

Talia, sitting at the edge of Ernest’s bed, and Julian, sitting quietly in the corner, patiently waited for Ernest to calm down after suddenly waking up from the dream in tears.

After a while Talia softly said, "Ernest would like to know something really cool about yourself. Do you know you are a child from the stars?"

"Really?" Ernest said, snot and tears still present on his face and his expression showing he didn’t really believe Talia.

"Yes, really, you just swished and magically appeared in front of us."

"Hahaha, Mom, that’s impossible; babies aren’t born like that," he said confidently.

"All right, all right. I hear you. Would you like to come to sleep in Mummy and Daddy’s room tonight?" Talia asked.

"Yes," young Ernest replied immediately.

That night Ernest slept with his parents, and by the next morning nobody spoke about it anymore.

*****Present day**

"With tonight’s experience it seems that it might really be true,"" Ernest said slowly.

"Gonna ask them tomorrow then," Ernest said, trying to get the thought off his mind.

"Let’s leave other thoughts till tomorrow," he concluded before lying down again to sleep.

Slowly he drifted back to sleep, but weirdly he didn’t have the dream again that night.

the beast he just fought.

He took his digital watch, planning to scan the beast to check its information.

The beast was quickly scanned, and its information was uploaded.

The beast turned out to be a white-striped-back black serval. Something that doesn’t even count as a tier 0 beast.

"A beast that is supposedly this weak was actually able to injure me so much," he thought, slightly dejected.

Still feeling the rush of adrenaline, Ernest was oblivious to the minute changes that were going on inside of his body. Changes that started as he began that battle.

He was beginning to leave that area with steady steps when he suddenly thought,

"We weren’t provided with any rations, so don’t I need to fend for myself?"

"Should I actually leave this body here and go away as fast as possible, or should I take this body along as my meal?"

Ernest thought for a while before returning to that spot and picking up the carcass.

He had no idea how helpful the decision he made would be to him in the not-so-distant future.

After picking the body, he briskly moved away, as he had heard stories of how the smell of blood usually attracts potion beasts.

Maybe it was due to his ignorance or some other external factors Ernest was oblivious to at the moment; he didn’t even think about the fact that he was carrying the largest attractor with him.

He continued to progress steadily on this path towards the marked location.

He didn’t lose his guard this time, staying alert always and regularly scanning for danger.

Based on these actions of his, he was quickly able to spot the next attacker even before it attacked.

It was a snake with a very colorful pattern and a very thick body, almost as thick as Ernest’s arm.

While staring directly at the beast, he slowly moved towards it, planning to enact the "get you before you get me" strategy.

The snake, seeing his approach, slowly raised its body, ready to strike at any moment.

Nervousness could be seen all over Ernest’s face as he was hesitant, but he gritted his teeth and charged straight at the snake.

The snake lunged straight at Ernest, using its flexible body like a whip.

Ernest, who is a little bit more confident, sidestepped slightly and sent a sword slash at the snake’s head, trying to end it as soon as possible.

The snake, sensing the danger, moved with exceptional dexterity and dodged the sword strike.

Ernest was disappointed by the results of that attack but didn’t let up and proceeded to throw another attack towards the snake.

The snake couldn’t dodge fast enough this time and was grazed by the sword.

"Ding," Ernest heard as the sword bounced off the scales of the snake, only leaving a small chip.

"Fuck," he cursed loudly as panic began to appear on his face.

As this was his third real battle, he was still rough around the edges about the trivialities of battle.

As the panic was beginning to take root in his heart, he noticed a streak of blood appeared in the area he just attacked.

"So it wasn’t useless after all," he said excitedly as he continued to rain attacks on the snake.

The snake kept dodging skillfully and trying to counterattack anytime it had the chance to, but Ernest kept thwarting its plans.

As the battle continued, Ernest kept getting more and more confident, his movement flowing as if he was in the zone.

Being able to deliver really precise sword strikes quite regularly.

It seems being the Son of Chaos really has its perks.

Ernest kept attacking, feeling as if he was on the top of the world.

All things don’t last forever, and this came to Ernest quite early.

Everything seems to crash down back to earth as he suddenly feels his vision blurring.

"What is going on? Why is this happening?"
