What Do You Mean I Have To Comprehend Dao As A Mortal God?

Chapter 112: Dan’s Family

I took off my shoes as I stepped into Dan’s home.

"Daddy! Welcome home! Eh? Uncle Qing?"

"Waahhh!! Uncle Qing!!!"

Two cute voices came from inside the house before the pitter patter of feet could be heard.

I looked up to see two young girls running towards me and Dan.

Both of them had black hair and looked no more than six years old with one of them sporting shoulder length hair and the other had a messy bob hair style that just barely reached her neck in length.

Dan immediately knelt down on a knee and stretched out his arms towards them, "Daddy’s home!!"

He held that pose, expecting his two daughters to run towards him to hug him, only for both of them to run up to me to hug my legs instead.

"Uncle Qing, wel... Welcome!"

"Uncle Qing!! You never visit us for so long!!"

Well... Technically I’ve visited here not too long ago but they were away at a birthday party... Since there was no need for them to know, I didn’t bring that up of course.

Also, just in case there is any confusion... I am not their actual uncle. I’m more like their honorary uncle because of my relationship with their mother and father.

I guess you could say that I was their godfather but well... Letting them call me uncle was easier.

I reached out and patted their heads, "Sorry, I have been busy these few days. Here you go."

Joanne, the eldest daughter with the shoulder length hair, gingerly took the plastic bag that I had handed them that was filled with some sweets I bought on the way here.

The younger daughter, Amanda, also peered inside and her face lit up the moment she saw the contents.

"Wahh!! Sweets! Thank you Uncle Qing!! We love you!!"

Dan gave them a pointed look, "Hey... I’m already overlooking the fact that you’re not giving Daddy a hug but why are you treating Qing better than Daddy?"

"Because Uncle Qing gives us sweets!" Amanda shot back, already digging through the bag to take out one of the sweets.

"Oi. Your mother would kill me if I keep giving you two sweets. Also, you better not eat any sweets now, mommy is cooking dinner already and she’ll kill all of us if you eat them."

Amanda immediately turned to me, "Wahhh!! Uncle Qing! Daddy is bullying us!!"

I couldn’t help but chuckle, "Ha ha, sorry but I’ll have to stand on your father’s side this time. You girls can eat the sweets after dinner, alright? Let’s leave this for later."

Joanne immediately nodded, "Yes, Uncle Qing."

On the other hand, Amanda clasped her hands together in a pleading motion, "Waahhh... Just one, Uncle Qing?"

Looking at the girl giving me that pleading gaze, I was about to relent when a woman appeared from around the corner.

She looked our age and had black hair which she tied in a side braid with the tail hanging over her right shoulder. Despite the fact that she was wearing a simple dress and apron, she had the grace of a queen and light seemed to shine around her figure.

"Amanda... Joanne... You better not be eating any sweets before dinner," She admonished.

Both girls immediately froze up and turned to face their mother.

"We aren’t, mommy!!"

"We didn’t, mommy!"

She huffed before smiling at me, "Ah, welcome, Qing. Please make yourself at home. I hope my husband has not been giving you much trouble?"

Dan stood up and placed his arm on my shoulder, "Come on dear, how can I be a problem for Qing? If anything, he’s the one giving me problems, hor."

She scowled at him, "I was not asking you."

I chuckled and gave her a wave, "Good evening, Rachel. Thank you for having me over. You don’t need to worry, Dan’s been nice to me."

Rachel smiled again, "That’s nice to hear. If he ever gives you problems, just let me know and I will set him straight for you."

Dan huffed, "Oi, why are the both of you ganging up to bully me?"

Rachel ignored him and gestured inside, "Come in, Qing. We would be poor hosts if we let our guests stand at the doorway for so long. Girls, can you bring Uncle Qing in?"

""Yes, mommy!!"" Both girls responded before grabbing my hands to pull me inside their home.

On the way, I also handed Rachel a small, wrapped box that I bought as a gift for them, "A small gift for you guys. Thanks for having me over."

It wasn’t anything big, just some confectionaries I got from a store.

Rachel received the gift with a pleasant smile, "Oh my, you didn’t have to, Qing. You are always welcomed here even without any gifts."

"I feel bad for imposing on your family after all."

"Nonsense. The girls already see you as their uncle so there’s no need for that. Go, go. Dinner will be ready in a bit."

Rachel went back to the kitchens while Dan chuckled at the sight and put away his shoes in the shoe cabinet.

Amanda and Joanne brought me over to the living room where they were in the middle of doing their homework since there were what looked like homework left half done on the coffee table.

The both of them were still eyeing the plastic bag that Joanne was holding so I reached inside to grab two small pieces of candy to hand it over to them, giving them a conspiratory wink while placing a finger over my lips.

They took it gingerly with a giggle while making shushing noises before popping the candies into their mouths.

Dan came over to me with a can of juice in each hand, handing one of them over to me.

He cracked his open and smirked at me. "You know... Sometimes I wonder if you’re spoiling them on purpose to get them to like you better than me."

I smirked and cracked open my drink as well, "It’s working isn’t it? Can’t deny that, can you?"

"I swear, when you have a kid, you’re going to be the type of father who carries pictures of his children around and then just start bragging about how cute your kids are to anyone you meet."

I raised an eyebrow at him, "What? You’re telling me you don’t do that?"

He rolled his eyes before directing his gaze to his two daughters who had gone back to working on their homework while chewing on the sweets I had given them.

"Seriously though... When are you gonna have kids?" He asked.

I took a sip from my drink, "You make it sound like I already have a partner that I can have one with.

He raised his eyebrow, "You don’t? No one in your team caught your eye? I saw the group of Guardians and I think a few of them are exactly your type, aren’t they?"

Before I could tell him off, Amanda looked up in excitement at me, "Uncle Qing! I heard you are... Umm... Umm... Gua... Guardian?"

I smiled at her, "Yes, I am working as a Guardian of our country’s Mortal God now."

"That’s so cool! What is the... Umm... Mmm... ’Mort God’ like?"

I couldn’t help but chuckle at her, "Well, he’s--"

"I heard he supposedly has a really big ego," Dan interrupted me with a cocky grin. "He has a big head and he looks really ugly, that’s why he wears that mask."

Joanne gasped, "Really? Is his head really big?"

Dan quickly spread his arms out exaggeratedly, "Yeah! Daddy saw him the other day! His head is thiiiiiis big! To fit through the doorways, he has to walk through them sideways!"

Amanda turned to me, "Is it true, Uncle Qing?"

I chuckled," Your father is joking of course. His head is about my size so he is completely normal."

Both daughters turn to pout at their father.

"Daddy liar pants on fire!"

"Daddy meanie!"

Dan gasped exaggeratedly, "Really?! You would believe uncle Qing over daddy? Daddy is hurt!"

Joanne pointed a finger at him, "We saw on TV! His head was not big! Daddy liar!"

Dan grinned and reached over to start ruffling his daughter’s hair, "Oh my little girl is so smart! You remember what you saw on the news did you?"

"Ehehe... I remember, daddy!"

Joanne quickly stood up, "I remember too daddy!! There were a lot of people! They went to fight big baddies!"

Rachel appeared from the kitchen while carrying a few plates in her hands, "Alright, alright. Dinner is ready, let’s eat first everyone."

Dan quickly got up and went over to his wife to help set up the table, leaving me to lead their two daughters to the dining table.

Rachel obviously prepared a feast because I was coming as dish after dish came out from the kitchen to be placed on the table.

Dinner was nice as we shared gossip and jokes, even reminiscing about our past as well.

And despite the fact that Dan knew I was the Mortal God now... He still didn’t treat me any differently than before.

I’m glad that I can still live moments like this.
