[BL]The Hero and his Party Won't Let Me Go

Chapter 238: Ch 238: Losing your mind

Grrrrr

The loud roar from the monster made Shuu block his ears. His head throbbed from the noise, and he watched Kris flinch at the loud sound as well.

"This stupid monster is trying too hard. Let me seal its mouth shut."

Kris complained before he jumped at the monster with his fist lit up with fire. He was confident about his chances against the boss, but the boss was not an easy monster to go up against.

It noticed Kris and decided to slam the esper into the cave wall using its tail.

Kris had the power to combat the monster, but not the situational awareness and experience to go up against such a monster. That made him unable to dodge the attack, and he was slammed into the wall pretty hard.

Shuu heard the noise rather than saw it. His whole attention was focused on the monster, which had finally noticed Shuu as well and decided to go after him.

’Tsk, this is bad. I need to get away right now...’

Shuu decided to try to run, but it was not as easy as he hoped it would be.

The monster roared once more, and boulders fell down on the only exit of the place, successfully trapping Shuu and Kris inside.

So Shuu had no choice but to change his target and head toward Kris now.

He was not sure how much he would be able to help Kris, but he had to do something to make the situation a little more manageable.

"Ouch... it hurts a lot. Hey, why are you not running away?"

Kris asked as he looked at Shuu heading toward him. The esper looked justifiably angry, but Shuu felt that his anger was unfair toward him.

"Tsk, I want to run away as well, but there is no exit for me right now. I have no choice but to come back."

Kris closed his mouth once he saw that the exit had been blocked. He tried to push himself up to stand, but it was hard for him to do so.

The monster decided to turn back toward them, and Shuu quickly helped Kris stand up. He started to guide him, but that did not help much.

What Kris needed was some medicine to heal him, not guiding.

But because Shuu was supporting him, Kris was able to take out his potion and drink it in one go.

His wounds healed a little, but not enough to the point where he was completely fine again.

"I can stand on my own now. Thanks for helping me. But you need to hide. We cannot have you die here."

Kris spoke softly.

He had a feeling that he would die if he faced the boss on his own. But it was a risk he was willing to take.

His pride and instincts as an esper would not allow him to put a guide in danger—especially if the said guide was one he was so compatible with that he wanted to offer his life to protect him.

The monster noticed them once more and decided that it had given them enough time to waste. It quickly started coming toward them, and Kris stood up on shaky legs and decided to form a barrier of fire around the monster and Shuu.

He could have formed a barrier around both of them, but that would not be as powerful. The smaller his barrier, the more force he would be able to expel.

"Shuu, make sure to get out of here safely. I will distract the boss as much as I can with my current power."

Kris promised as he lit his whole body on fire.

It was a move he did not want to use, as it ate away at his sanity. He would likely lose his mind and attack everything in his path until he burned everything away. But it was a risk he was willing to take.

Besides, he had a feeling that he would subconsciously recognize Shuu and not attack him.

"Oh well, I should have seen this coming when I applied for a dangerous job. I won’t be able to live a safe life from now on."

Slowly, Kris’s whole body was lit up with fire, and whatever rationality he had left inside his mind was taken over by the urge to burn everything away. His thoughts also started to fade, and Kris let out a startled laugh.

’It feels so calm here. I don’t need to think about anyone or anything. I can do whatever I want here. Ah, it is so freeing.’

There was no need to think about anything anymore. All Kris needed to do was burn this world until either it or he perished.

He took a step toward the boss, and the boss noticed him as well. The boss looked curious, but also disturbed by this new threat in front of it.

"What’s wrong? Are you not going to attack me? I thought you wanted to kill us all."

Kris asked as he took a step forward. But the boss took a step back, not wanting to face the burning human in front of it.

Unfortunately, it did not get a choice, because Kris’s flames started to lick across the boss’s skin, causing it to let out anguished cries of pain.

The boss was burning, and Kris let out laugh after laugh as he watched it all happen.

He felt exhausted, his body felt like it was about to break, and his sanity seemed like it had reached its end. And yet, despite all this, Kris continued forward until he burned the boss alive from the inside out.

But it was not enough. He had not burned enough. He needed to burn more, to make sure there was no danger left and to save his guide.

He sensed another presence around him that was not his guide. It felt similar, but his instincts told him that it was a threat he needed to get rid of.

That was why he immediately attacked that new presence, only to have his arm grabbed by someone strong.
