Chapter 237: Ch 237: Face the boss first
"W-What is going on here? This place does not look anything like the dungeon we were told about. What are these monsters, and where did they come from?"
Secretary Ann complained as he looked around the dungeon. He had followed his boss inside in case the elder would need guiding in order to function properly, but he suddenly felt like he had made a mistake.
Not only was this dungeon filled with monsters, but these monsters also seemed to have evolved and mutated into something more than ordinary monsters.
A monster lunged toward Secretary Ann, and before he could dodge it, Yuri smacked the monster down in its path.
Secretary Ann had a small blush on his face after being saved, and he turned toward Yuri with a grateful look on his face.
"Thank you for your help, boss."
Yuri only nodded at his secretary before he turned to look at the monsters.
He had never seen such a scene before in his life either. There were monsters everywhere, and most of them had a dangerous aura around them that made it impossible for any normal esper to get near them.
Moreover, the safety stone was not working properly, so there was no chance for anyone to come back safely either.
"Tsk, we need to retrieve as many bodies as we can from this place and then seal it. We will also need to report that this dungeon has mutated into a dangerous place. Secretary Ann, stay close to me. I don’t want you to die here."
Yuri declared, and Secretary Ann quickly got close to his boss. He felt safer being close to him as well.
They were heading toward the location where the participants had last contacted them when a huge blast drew their attention.
"W-What is that? Is that a monster as well?"
Secretary Ann asked as he looked at the huge pillar of fire not too far away. Yuri just narrowed his eyes as he looked at the powerful ability being used in front of him.
"That is not a monster, but an ability. It seems like one of our participants this time was an esper who came here as a spy. We should go and help him out. Then we can question him about why he tried to sneak in here."
Secretary Ann shook his head. He did not know whether he wanted to feel sorry for the person who tried to sneak in or feel grateful that at least someone was alive in this hellhole.
__________
Shuu and Kris made their way to the boss monster’s arena carefully. Well, Shuu walked carefully. Kris blasted away any and all monsters that stood in his way.
Kris had a grin on his face as he made his way forward. Power was coursing through his body as he blasted one monster after another.
He had never felt this free in his life, and his body had never felt this light before. He felt like a new person, and his instincts told him that he could take on any monster that came his way.
’Have I... ever felt like this before? This is not like any guiding I have received before. I feel like I have gained a new level of power from this.’
Kris felt elated, and he did not even look back when he blasted the monster rushing toward him.
It was such a rush of feelings that Kris felt his smile widen, and he kept killing monsters faster and faster.
Shuu was walking only a little further behind, and he sighed as he watched Kris lose control.
"Kris, don’t overdo it. We don’t have any supplies, and you are our last line of defense."
Shuu reminded him, and his voice cut through the daze Kris was in. The esper calmed down a little but pouted when he looked at Shuu.
"Hey, it will be fine, right? After all, you are a guide, and you can help me lower my fatigue once I hit that point... on that note, can you guide me once more?"
Kris asked as he extended his hand toward Shuu.
He was currently more than alright, but he still wanted to be guided by Shuu. There was something addicting about Shuu’s guiding that made Kris want to monopolize it all.
The young esper had never felt possessiveness like this before, even with A-class guides who had tried guiding him before. He had never felt this free before either.
He was having the time of his life by being free and doing what he wanted.
But Shuu was not having the same fun time as the esper. He was trying his best to remain calm and preserve his strength. But he had to continuously move and match Kris’s pace, so it was not easy.
Somehow, they reached the boss’s room, but it was being guarded by more than one strong monster.
"What should we do? Should we try and fight our way inside?"
Shuu asked, but Kris only grinned harder and took his place in front of Shuu.
"Don’t worry too much about it. You can leave this up to me. I will show you my newly awakened power. Just wait and see."
Kris promised before he concentrated all his power in his palm and slammed it on the ground.
Shuu watched as pillars of fire engulfed the monsters, and they disappeared right in front of his eyes.
Kris had a wide grin on his face as he watched his power at work. He flexed his hand to get rid of the tension before he pressed forward.
"Hey Shuu, I have something to ask you once we get out of here. I hope you will give me a positive answer to my question."
Kris spoke softly, but expectation already coated his voice. Shuu had a feeling that he would not like the favor Kris was about to ask him.
But he chose not to say anything at the moment. He needed Kris to concentrate on the matter at hand for now. Everything else could come later.
