Freya and Her Beast Husbands

Chapter 38: Untitled

They spent the rest of the morning chatting with Elisa until one of her beast husbands came by to let her lunch was ready. They then moved to the dining room and sat there for a couple of hours.

By the time Freya and Xavier were leaving, Freya understood what Xavier meant by Elisa being the most influential when it came to hosting others. The beastwoman could keep people entertained, jumping from topic to topic.

Still, she liked the older beastwoman, even if Elisa did drain her social battery. They had made plans to meet again tomorrow to start training Freya’s ability. Mostly because Freya didn’t want to delay it and Elisa felt the sooner she learnt control the better.

Because according to the older beastwoman, her abilities were flowing out all over the place and if left unchecked could bring the unsavory around her or worse drain her until she died. Which scared the hell out of Freya.

She was not about to die from a power she was given by some stupid god.

While they were driving back, Freya decided to finally ask Xavier something that had been lingering on her mind for some time. She turned her gaze to the snake beastman, waiting for him to come to a stop.

When he did, she asked, "So, you and... Aunt Elisa... Why didn’t you tell me?"

A little heads up about the relationship would’ve definitely been of help. She would’ve been better prepared for this and perhaps understood General Markson’s actions better.

"It’s a long story..." Xavier sighed.

"I have time to listen." Freya retorted.

Xavier glanced over at her before turning back to gaze at the road. The light went green and he began driving again, silence filling the air.

Eventually he said, "Let’s just say, Aunt Elisa has been looking out for my brothers and I after... our parents died. She can’t have kids, so sees us as her own... Though my brothers and I keep our distance so her reputation doesn’t go to the complete gutters."

Considering how important having kids were in the world, she could only imagine what Elisa went through. And she still managed to be popular among beastwomen, even inviting Freya to her next gathering.

Honestly, it was impressive.

"She may seem a bit much at times, but she’s just trying to help." Xavier added. "So don’t take what she says or does to heart... And if you want to reject her offer, don’t feel bad about it. It won’t mess with our relationship."

Freya pressed her lips together. "I don’t know what exactly you’re thinking right now, but I accepted those offers because I wanted to. I need training and don’t want to get involved with the Guide Center which is my other option. Also it’d be nice to meet other beastwomen."

"Alright I’m just saying..." Xavier went quiet for a moment. "Have you thought about going on blind dates?"

Freya almost choked on his unexpected question and exclaimed in horror, "Where is this coming from?"

"I was just wondering..." Xavier pursed his lips.

"I mean I’m probably going to have to meet with other guys eventually..." Freya mused, trying to cringe at how awkward this conversation was.

It was honestly strange to her that her ’husband’ and her were discussing the idea of her dating and possibly marrying other men. She knew they weren’t in a real relationship and that it was common to have more than one beast husband,

But she was still trying to wrap her head around the whole situation. Which was easier said than done because she had been brought up to think that was cheating.

"You said you weren’t against it... so I’m hoping you’re not having second thoughts." Freya added. "Of course, if you’re worried about the type of guys I’ll meet then you can add your two cents... Though I might not agree with what you say."

"I’m not having second thoughts." Xavier stated. "I’m just curious about what you think about it."

Freya felt there was more to it than that simple explanation, but she decided not to push for now. Because she doubted that Xavier would tell her.

He was tight lipped when he wanted to be and no one was getting anything from him. She had watched Elisa try and fail multiple times today.

The car filled with silence once more, not an awkward one, but rather a comfortable one. Neither Xavier nor Freya felt the need to talk. They were just fine in each other’s presence.

Freya picked up her phone, gazing at the time for a moment. It was weird to think how this world had so many similar things to her and yet it was also so very different that sometimes she had trouble wrapping her mind around things.

They soon got onto the road to their home, the sun setting behind them. Freya turned her head to look out the tinted window when she spotted something shiny.

"Seems the reporters are still here." Freya mused, turning away from the window.

Xavier frowned, hands tightening around the steering wheel. "I’ll have that sorted out soon."

"Don’t tire yourself over it." Freya shook her head. "I’ll just have to be careful about going out."

"Hmm..." Xavier hummed out, not quite listening to her.

They drove into the mansion up to the garage. Once they were parked, Xavier stepped out of the car and moved over to open Freya’s door. He helped her out, it becoming something that she was used to.

When they got inside the mansion, the sound of something blaring with various noises rang through the house. It took Freya a moment to realize that someone was watching something.

And considering that there was only one other person living in this house, she knew it was Wilson watching something in the living room. Well, one of them anyway.

Xavier let out a curse under his breath before stalking off to where the sound was coming from. Freya curiously followed after him, wanting to know what Wilson was watching.
