Freya and Her Beast Husbands

Chapter 37: General Markson’s Wife (2)

The moment she said those words, Xavier choked on his tea and began coughing. Freya hit him on the back gently, her face going as red as a tomato at the words.

She couldn’t believe that Elisa would say such a thing. Well, they were married, so perhaps it was to be expected. But their relationship wasn’t like that.

"Aunt Elisa..." Xavier murmured, finally recovering. "I don’t think that’s necessary... Freya’s still getting used to the city and everything."

Elisa picked up her teacup and took a sip of it before she said, "What are your thoughts, Freya? Ignore this brat. I clearly need to tell Steven to give him some lessons."

Xavier frowned at her words. "Don’t bring General Markson into this."

So, General Markson is Steven. Guess it’s his first name. Freya quietly thought to herself.

Though it did then raise the question of why Xavier used his first name instead when being called instead of his last name like the general. Was it because he hated his last name?

She did notice that both Wilson and him only kept to their first names. Xavier even took her last name, but that apparently was standard practice because things would be a mess if it were the other way around.

"A honeymoon isn’t necessary..." Freya finally said before the other two could continue. "I’m more interested in exploring the city and meeting others..."

"Is that truly what you want?" Elisa asked. "Forget about Xavier’s word for a moment and be selfish."

Xavier grumbled next to her, earning another sharp glare from Elisa which almost made Freya chuckle. The older beastwoman sure acted like his mother and was probably one of the few people who could put him in his place.

"I’m really fine." Freya answered. "A honeymoon would be too much trouble for me when I’m trying to understand how things work here... I’m not from this city, you know."

"Alright... I won’t push it then." Elisa sighed. "But just know that you can be more selfish in this city. No one’s allowed to take your choices from you... Not even Xavier. And if he tries anything, you come to me."

Freya knew Elisa was looking out for her in her own way, but Freya felt things were more complicated than that. However, she wasn’t going to get into a fight about it.

Instead, she just said, "I understand... Aunt Elisa."

"Good." Elisa gave her a soft smile. "Now we need to get those other two married and then I can finally rest in peace."

"We both know that’s not happening..." Xavier muttered under his breath. "One is crazy and the other... well maybe."

"Uhsh and let me dream." Elisa waved her hand at him. "Anyway, Freya, let me know if you want to be introduced to any other males. The FPA rarely gets those blind dates right."

"I think I’m fine for now..." Freya said with an awkward smile.

She wasn’t ready for any kind of matchmaking, whether it was from the FPA’s blind dates thing or Elisa matching her up with someone else. There were too many other things she had to worry about.

Elisa pouted for a moment, clearly wanting a chance to matchmake. But she put it aside and said, "Well if that’s what you want. Just know I’m happy to help anytime with that... Oh yes! Do you have a guide ability? You probably do seeing as they let you get married, but what’s your rank?"

"Um S-class." Freya answered.

Elisa sucked in a breath at those words. "It’s been a while since we’ve had that... I’m surprised the Guide Center isn’t hounding you."

Freya knew S-class ranked guides were quite rare with there only being about ten. At least according to the ranking system she saw online which could be missing out on some of the guides.

After all, she did later read that the ranking system was based on publicly active guides. Something which many weren’t because they didn’t want to deal with the public. Which was understandable.

Freya preferred her privacy if possible.

However, one thing she was a little surprised about was the Guide Center hounding her. Guess she was right to assume that they were desperate considering how that doctor was acting.

"They only don’t try anything because they would have to deal with me." Xavier stated before taking a sip of his tea. "Another case would be bad for them."

"I suppose you’re right there." Elisa mused. She then turned to Freya and said, "It’s your choice whether you want to work there or not... However, fair warning, but it’s cut-throat. They make it toxic to have beastwomen compete and use their abilities as much as the center needs."

Well that just confirmed that she wasn’t going to get involved with it then. She wasn’t into toxic work culture and was better off finding some other way to make money.

If that was even possible.

"Of course, they will tell you that you need to train your ability..." Elisa paused for a moment, giving her a once over. "Which you seem to need to do... But I can help you with that if you. I’m an S-class myself."

Freya was a little curious about this whole training thing. She hadn’t read anything about it, but in a way it did make sense. A guide ability was a power after all and all powers needed training if one wanted to control it.

"I’ll be thankful if you teach me." Freya said. "Though I hope it’s no trouble...."

Honestly, she was thankful that the older beastwoman was willing to help. Even if they just met. Of course, she did question why Elisa would want to help her, but she pegged it down to the older beastwoman looking out for her for Xavier’s sake.

Which reminded her. She was definitely going to have to have a chat with him about their relationship when they were back home.

"It’s no trouble." Elisa retorted. "If anything you’re keeping me company while we train. You can come by once a week."
