Chapter 497: Extra - Luna Jennings x Benjamin Morgan (1)
Do you believe in love at first sight?
I do!
—Luna Jennings
***
"Darius Lynch, Darius Lynch, I love you—"
Luna Jennings stood outside a large-scale event, holding a fan sign and screaming along with a crowd of Lowell’s Fans.
Darius Lynch’s new movie, "Shadow," was about to be released.
In it, he played a detective who was a gentle and refined young professor by day, and a mysterious sleuth who fought criminals by night.
The dual role allowed Darius Lynch to showcase his superb acting skills, and he won over countless female fans.
Luna Jennings was one of them.
For this fan event, she’d skipped her tutoring class for the first time, all in the hopes of getting his autograph.
But Darius Lynch was only outside for a short time. Before she could even get close enough to shake his hand, he was gone.
"Ah... Luna, Darius Lynch shook my hand! I’m never washing this hand again."
"Really? Quick, let me shake it a couple of times."
The two girls jumped and shouted, ecstatic with joy.
This was Darius Lynch’s first movie.
And it was the first year Luna Jennings had become his fan.
...
"One hug, one goodbye, ’cause I know once I leave, I’ll never see you again..."
The phone on the nightstand rang.
Luna Jennings frowned, fumbling for her phone with her eyes still closed.
"Hello..."
"Luna, wake up! I managed to snag tickets to Darius Lynch’s fan meet-and-greet..."
Luna Jennings’s drowsiness vanished instantly. She shot up in bed, her face lit with a pleasant surprise.
"Ah... Jean, you’re amazing!"
"Saturday at 8 PM, don’t forget. I’ll drop the ticket off to you as soon as I get it."
"Aren’t you going?" Luna Jennings asked.
"I have an audition that day and won’t make it back in time."
"Oh my god, you’re only a freshman and you already have an audition? That’s incredible."
"Hehehe, it’s a connection from the Quincy Family. You have to help me get one of the crafts Darius Lynch makes by hand!"
"You got it."
Luna Jennings glanced at the date. Two more days. She hummed a happy tune, ready to get out of bed and grab some food.
Her home was on campus, which was basically like living in the dorms.
The cafeteria closest to the faculty and staff housing was Cafeteria No. 3.
She had been eating at the school cafeterias since she was a child and knew the ’aunties’ who worked there very well.
Before she even opened her mouth, the auntie serving food had already plated a meal with all her favorite dishes.
"Luna, eat more meat. Don’t be so focused on losing weight. Look how skinny you are—you’re not even as chubby as when you were a kid."
The speaker was the manager of Cafeteria No. 3, Linda Cain, one of the cafeteria aunties who had practically watched Luna Jennings grow up.
Every time Luna came to eat, Linda would serve her meal personally.
She always gave her generous portions of meat and charged her less.
Luna Jennings smiled so wide her eyes crinkled. "That’s enough, that’s enough, Auntie Cain. I really can’t eat all this."
"Eat up."
Linda Cain added another scoop of braised pork to her plate and continued chatting with a smile, "Luna, my Jenson is coming back home in a couple of days."
"Really? When?"
Luna Jennings’s eyes lit up.
Jenson Lawson was Linda Cain’s son. He used to help out in the cafeteria when they were little and was one of Luna Jennings’s childhood companions.
Back then, Luna Jennings was a bold little girl, the veritable queen bee of the kids in Cafeteria No. 3. Almost all the children who ate there were her playmates, and Jenson Lawson was her best friend among them.
That is, until high school, when Jenson Lawson tested into First City High School and then applied to study abroad in his senior year.
And so, the two were separated.
Linda Cain’s chubby face bloomed into a smile. "He gets back Saturday afternoon. Come over to my place for dinner that evening, okay?"
Luna Jennings was about to agree when she suddenly remembered Darius Lynch’s fan meet-and-greet and hesitated.
Linda Cain was a sharp woman and could tell at a glance that something was on her mind. "Luna, my Jenson hasn’t been back in two years, you know, but he’s always thinking about you. You really have to come..."
"Uh... okay..."
The moment the word was out, Luna Jennings wanted to slap herself.
But Linda Cain was already happily chattering about the menu for Saturday night.
Luna Jennings picked up her tray and slumped over to find a seat.
She tried calling Jean Quincy, but the call wouldn’t go through. She was probably busy.
By noon on Saturday, Luna Jennings still hadn’t been able to reach Jean Quincy and had no idea what she was busy with.
"One hug, one goodbye, ’cause I know once I leave, I’ll never see you again..."
Her phone rang.
It was an unfamiliar number. Luna Jennings answered dejectedly. Before the other person could speak, she said, "Is this for a delivery? Just leave it at the security office."
The person on the other end was silent for a long moment before a pleasant male voice replied, "This one needs to be signed for in person..."
