Chapter 498: Extra - Luna Jennings x Benjamin Morgan (Part 2)
Luna Jennings was stunned. That voice was so familiar!
Suddenly, she jumped for joy. ’Isn’t that the handsome guy from Aurora’s university?’
’Oh my god...’
Luna Jennings did her best to keep the excitement out of her voice.
"Which gate are you at? I’m coming to find you now."
"The fountain at the West Gate."
"Okay, okay, okay, I’ll be right over. Wait for me..."
Luna Jennings hung up, grabbed her schoolbag, and bolted out of the cafeteria.
"Luna, you haven’t even eaten..."
"Can you get it to-go for me?"
The wind was a bit strong today. Luna Jennings clutched her hair as she sprinted.
A few hundred meters from the fountain, Luna Jennings stopped, pulled out a small mirror, and used her hand to fix her wind-tousled hair.
A tall figure stood by the fountain, dressed in a beige trench coat. With one hand in a pocket, they were looking down at their phone.
Several girls nearby were whispering to each other, likely smitten by his good looks.
Luna Jennings smiled to herself, put away her little mirror, and slowly walked over.
Just then, a boy walked over carrying two bottles of water. The person in the trench coat looked up, smiled at him, and the two walked off together.
’A... a girl...’
Luna Jennings was dumbfounded.
She froze on the spot.
’Where was the ridiculously handsome professor’s assistant?’
Luna Jennings’s face fell, and she rubbed her cheeks, which stung from the wind.
"You’re Luna Jennings, right?"
The pleasant male voice came from behind her.
Luna Jennings froze. She spun around and came face-to-face with the man who made her heart skip a beat.
"Mor... Morgan..."
"Aurora Sinclair asked me to give you this ticket." Benjamin Morgan adjusted his glasses, pulled a ticket from the pocket of his white lab coat, and held it out to her.
’He was in an extremely bad mood.’
’Originally, Jean Quincy had asked Aurora Sinclair to deliver this to her.’
’But the boss has a soft spot for Aurora, so he sent me to run the errand instead.’
’I skipped lunch, didn’t change my clothes, and rode my bike all the way from the lab in this gale, just to give a ticket to this dazed girl?’
"Thank you... You haven’t eaten, have you? Let me treat you. The cafeterias at Kingsford University are actually pretty good," Luna Jennings said, taking the ticket, her eyes sparkling.
Benjamin Morgan glanced at his watch. He still had an hour before his afternoon lab class.
He was, in fact, rather hungry, so he nodded.
"Get on. We’ll save time."
Luna Jennings thought she’d misheard. A blush crept across her cheeks as she stared at him excitedly.
Benjamin Morgan was growing impatient. He patted the back seat. "Hurry up. I’m on a tight schedule."
"Okay, okay, okay..."
Luna Jennings quickly steadied herself on the bike and sat on the back rack.
"Which way do I go?"
"Turn left up ahead. The closest cafeteria is two intersections past that."
Luna Jennings gently tugged on his white lab coat. ’The romantic scene I’ve always dreamed of is finally happening.’
’On a verdant campus, one afternoon.’
’Her Prince Charming, riding his bicycle down a lush, tree-lined avenue, taking her for a spin.’
’The dappled light from the leaves dances across her happy, blissful face... ’
"Stop yanking on my coat," Benjamin Morgan said, suddenly stopping the bike. He glanced back at her coldly.
Luna Jennings’s fantasy shattered, and she awkwardly let go.
She had pulled on Benjamin Morgan’s lab coat so much that it was about to slide off his shoulder, revealing the shirt underneath.
"S-Sorry..."
Luna Jennings lowered her head, her fingers gripping the seat instead.
Benjamin Morgan turned back around and started pedaling again.
Luna Jennings peeked at his back, bit her lip, and stifled a giggle.
’He’s actually really cute. His cheeks are all red.’
Up ahead, Benjamin Morgan, who was pedaling furiously, was filled with regret.
’Why did I have a moment of utter idiocy and let her ride on the back in this wind?’
’Have I been hanging around Mr. Beta too much lately?’
"Morgan, that place up ahead with all the students going in and out is the cafeteria."
Benjamin Morgan gritted his teeth and, summoning the last of his strength, pedaled furiously against the wind toward the cafeteria.
’This girl must have grown up eating lead weights!’ he thought to himself.
***
The bustling cafeteria.
Luna Jennings bustled about, swiping her card to order food for Benjamin Morgan.
"Morgan, they have free drinks over here. Would you like one?"
Benjamin Morgan glanced at the drink station and refused. "It’s all artificial sweeteners and additives."
Luna Jennings froze for a moment. She glanced again at the colorful drinks at the station, then silently followed him to find an empty table.
The lunch rush was over, so there were plenty of empty tables.
Luna Jennings shyly sat across from Benjamin Morgan and offered him chopsticks and a spoon. But he only took the chopsticks, saying coolly, "Only children eat with spoons."
Luna Jennings silently set the spoon aside.
Benjamin Morgan ate quickly, a firm believer in the adage of not speaking while eating.
By the time Luna Jennings had just started, he was already a third of the way through his meal.
"Morgan..."
"You can choke if you talk while you eat."
Luna Jennings, cut off, felt a pang of disappointment.
’This guy is completely clueless about romance.’
’Are all researchers this weird?’
"I’m finished. Thank you for the meal." Benjamin Morgan adjusted his glasses, gave her a nod, and stood up to clear his tray.
"Wait..." Luna Jennings watched his retreating figure, feeling utterly dejected.
’How can two people with the same aura and appearance have such completely different personalities?’
’He’s so much like the male lead from Shadow...’
