Chapter 495: Extra: Leigh Miles x Dean Morgan (Part 9)
「Inside the hospital.」
Leigh Miles immediately had Dean Morgan lie down on the bed.
She pulled open his hospital gown and began to examine him.
"Does this hurt?"
"No..."
"Here?"
"No..."
Leigh Miles looked at him, puzzled, as she pressed her fingers against his chest. "What about here?"
"No..."
Leigh Miles’s brows furrowed. "Then where does it hurt?"
But Dean Morgan just stared at her, pointing to his heart. "It hurts here."
Leigh Miles’s expression changed slightly. She quickly took out her stethoscope, bent over slightly, and listened intently to Dean Morgan’s heartbeat.
’It is beating a little fast. Could it be arrhythmia?’
Just as Leigh Miles was about to listen more closely, a large hand grabbed hers and pulled forcefully, sending her sprawling onto his chest.
"Ah... your wound..."
"I missed you."
Leigh Miles froze.
Dean Morgan’s hand stroked her hair as he said in a low voice, "Before I passed out, all I could think about was you. I was afraid I’d never see you again. Thank God I opened my eyes..."
A trace of sorrow surfaced in Leigh Miles’s heart, and her nose tingled. Remembering the scene in the operating room, she couldn’t stop the fear from rising inside her.
Suddenly, she burst out crying with a loud "WAAAH!"
Dean Morgan panicked.
’How is this different from what the books said?’
’Shouldn’t she be moved by my confession?’
’Why is she crying?’
Dean Morgan hurriedly handed her a tissue. "Don’t cry, don’t cry..."
"Waaaah... you scared me to death... What would I have done if you’d died... Waaaah... I haven’t had panna cotta in two years... Waaaaah..."
"Don’t cry, I’ll go make you some right now..." Dean Morgan started to get up, but his brows knitted in pain and he fell back onto the bed.
’I pulled on my wound...’
When Leigh Miles finally calmed down, she saw Dean Morgan looking at her with a pale face, clearly enduring the pain from his wound.
Leigh Miles panicked too. Tears started streaming down her face again as she pressed the nurse’s call button, crying, "Waaah... I’m so useless..."
Enduring the pain, Dean Morgan sat up, pulled her into his arms, and patted her back, whispering in her ear, "Leigh Miles, I love you. Marry me."
"Waaah... HIC..." Leigh Miles’s crying stopped.
Her eyes went wide, as if she couldn’t believe what she had just heard.
Dean Morgan held her shoulders and was about to lean in for a kiss when a nurse pushed the door open and came in.
"What’s the situation with the patient?"
Leigh Miles quickly stood up, her cheeks flushed red.
Dean Morgan clutched his chest and fell back onto the bed.
"Dr. Miles, what’s wrong?" the nurse asked, looking bewildered.
She thought she had heard crying just now.
At that moment, Leigh Miles couldn’t be bothered with other thoughts. She wiped her eyes and pointed at Dean Morgan. "He pulled on his wound."
Dean Morgan: ...
While the nurse was examining Dean Morgan’s wound, he kept his eyes fixed on Leigh Miles. The nurse seemed to understand something.
She teased, "The wound is fine, but you shouldn’t make any sudden, large movements for a while. You wouldn’t want it to actually split open..."
Leigh Miles’s face turned even redder.
She shot Dean Morgan a glare.
After the nurse left, a smile broke out on Dean Morgan’s stoic face. "Leigh..."
Leigh Miles turned her head away and looked elsewhere, saying awkwardly, "Don’t... I’m having an internal debate."
Dean Morgan smiled and took her hand. "Marry me, and you can have panna cotta every day. I’ll make you anything you like to eat. My wallet will be yours, too..."
A shiny bank card appeared before Leigh Miles’s eyes.
"Seriously, do you think I’m that much of a gold digger?" Leigh Miles retorted with a pout.
Dean Morgan reached out and ruffled her hair. "You’re not a gold digger. I’m the one who wants you to hold onto it for me."
Leigh Miles turned to face him and said with her head lowered, "What if I already have someone I like?"
Dean Morgan stiffened, silent for a long moment.
Leigh Miles’s heart tightened. Just as she was about to look up, a menacing voice sounded from above her head.
"Break his legs and throw him to the Western Continent..."
"..."
***
Leigh Miles didn’t know when she had started to like Dean Morgan.
After his confession back then, although she had been flustered, there was still a sliver of happiness in her heart.
Later, when he went to the Western Continent, she felt down for a while.
After that, her roommates all got into relationships one by one, leaving her all alone. It was then that she missed Dean Morgan terribly.
At least during the holidays back then, he was always by her side, taking her out to eat all sorts of delicious food.
She never thought it was unusual before, but thinking about it now, she realized he had liked her for a very long time.
The more important the day, the more you wish to have someone with you. In the past, he was always there.
But those two years left her feeling empty, as if something was missing from her life.
Thinking about it now, perhaps she had gotten used to his presence, used to all the ways he was good to her.
Used to a life with him in it...
This time, when he was injured and his life hung by a thread, she felt a heart-wrenching pain for the first time. She was afraid she wouldn’t be able to save him, afraid he would never open his eyes again.
Her mind went completely blank; she didn’t even know how she managed to perform the operation.
It wasn’t until he was wheeled out of the operating room.
She was in a daze, her emotions a complicated mess.
When he finally opened his eyes, her heart finally came back to life...
’This must be what they call ’like,’ right?’
