Chapter 494: Extra: Leigh Miles x Dean Morgan (8)
"How could this happen?" Leigh Miles was stunned.
Aiden Morgan was covered in blood. A single glance told her he had just flown in directly from the Western Continent.
"Ambushed by men from The Shadow..."
Leigh Miles’s heart clenched. She sprinted toward the operating room.
She changed her clothes and sterilized her hands.
Only then did she see the man on the operating table, already a bloody mess.
She felt as if all the blood in her body was flowing in reverse, and she began to tremble uncontrollably.
"Leigh Miles, don’t just stand there. Hurry up..."
Leigh Miles’s legs felt weak. For some reason, her mind went completely blank, as if she had forgotten all the knowledge she’d ever learned.
Emil Warner seemed to notice something was wrong with her, but he continued to calmly and methodically outline the treatment plan.
"The patient has a gunshot wound to the chest, one broken rib, and a slight fracture in his left leg. We need to perform surgery to remove the bullet now. Leigh Miles, you’ll assist with hemostasis. Do you understand?"
Leigh Miles nodded mechanically.
But when it came time to act, the hand she held the needle with was trembling, and she couldn’t stop it.
Emil Warner grew anxious, pushed her aside, and started inserting the needles himself.
"Leigh Miles, you need to get a grip. We’re trying to save a life here," Emil Warner said sternly to Leigh Miles once the bleeding had subsided.
Sniffling, Leigh Miles burst into tears.
’This isn’t what I wanted, but I just can’t control myself.’ Her mind was flooded with memories of all the little things Dean Morgan had done for her.
’If he dies, what will I do?’
Suddenly—
The monitors beside them started to alarm.
"The bleeding’s increased again! Hemostat—"
Leigh Miles looked at the figure before her, the shrill beeping ringing in her ears. She forced down her frantic thoughts, pressed her lips together, and rushed forward.
The needles in her hand precisely sealed his major acupoints, along with the "Power" that was about to drain away.
The surgery lasted for more than four hours. Finally, Dean Morgan was wheeled out of the operating room.
Leigh Miles changed her clothes and hurried to his hospital room.
Dean Morgan’s meridians weren’t damaged this time; the injuries were mostly external. The most fatal was the bullet in his chest, which had missed his heart by only 0.5 centimeters.
’He was truly blessed.’
Leigh Miles peeked furtively through the doorway of the hospital room, her heart pounding with anxiety.
"Why don’t you go in?"
Alvin Morgan’s voice came from behind her.
Like a startled fawn, she straightened up.
"Morgan, what are you doing back? Where’s my senior?"
"At The International Penitentiary." Alvin Morgan twisted the doorknob and walked in.
Leigh Miles followed him, stealing glances at the man in the hospital bed.
Dean Morgan was awake by now, but his body was extremely weak.
His face was pale, his lips a little dry.
Aiden Morgan was talking to him, trying to keep him from falling back asleep.
He seemed to be looking at Alvin Morgan, but she had the feeling his gaze was fixed on her the entire time.
"Focus on your recovery. You don’t need to worry about what comes next." Alvin Morgan walked up and said a few words.
Dean Morgan managed to force out a single sound. "Yes..."
"Leigh Miles, I’m leaving Dean Morgan in your care," Alvin Morgan said to Leigh Miles before he left.
She nodded.
「In the days that followed.」
Every day after class, Leigh Miles would go with Benjamin Morgan to the hospital to see Dean Morgan.
"What did you bring for Dixon this time? This smell is absolutely disgusting," Benjamin Morgan said, frowning as he drove.
’We’re from the same school, so why does Leigh Miles’s medicinal food smell so strange?’
The fumes were giving him a headache.
"It’s called ’good medicine tastes bitter’," Leigh Miles said with a grin, looking down at the thermal container on her lap.
’This was a secret recipe she had gone to great lengths to coax out of Apothecary Warner. If he drank it for seven straight days, Mr. Dixon’s body would definitely be as lively as ever.’
Benjamin Morgan rolled down the car window and took a breath of fresh air.
’Thank goodness he wasn’t the one lying in that hospital bed...’
「Inside the hospital room—」
The moment Leigh Miles opened the thermal container, the disgusting smell filled the entire room.
Unable to stand it, Benjamin Morgan ran out onto the balcony for some fresh air.
Dean Morgan merely furrowed his brow slightly before taking the bowl of soup from Leigh Miles. Without a change in his expression, he drank it all in one go.
Benjamin Morgan teased from behind the glass, "Dixon, don’t hold it in. If you want to puke, just say the word. Mr. C will bring you a basin."
Leigh Miles shot him a glare. "Mr. Dixon isn’t as delicate as you."
She popped a peeled honeyed date into Dean Morgan’s mouth.
Only to meet a pair of affectionate eyes.
Leigh Miles’s hand paused. She scrambled to her feet, scratched her head, and pointed toward the door. "I’ll go ask about your condition."
But Dean Morgan grabbed her arm.
"Aren’t you a Martial Healer?"
"I..."
"My chest hurts." A trace of pain appeared on Dean Morgan’s stoic face.
Leigh Miles’s expression immediately turned serious. She began to take his pulse and check his condition.
Seeing the dismissive look from his brother, Benjamin Morgan, who was still on the balcony, shrugged and vaulted right over the railing.
He landed lightly on the grass below.
’Good thing Dean Morgan’s room was on the second floor.’
"Mr. C, what are you doing?"
Startled, Benjamin Morgan straightened up, pushed up his glasses, and said with a perfectly straight face, "Just testing how high the second floor is."
Luna Jennings looked up, a little bewildered.
"Are you here to see Dixon?"
Luna Jennings averted her gaze and gestured with the fruit and supplements in her hands. "Yeah. Which room is he in? I tried calling Leigh Miles, but she’s not picking up."
"She’s busy. Come back another time..." Benjamin Morgan grabbed her hand and led her away from the inpatient building.
"Huh?"
