My Wife is a Hidden Big Shot

Chapter 493: Extra - Leigh Miles x Dean Morgan (7)

"You..." Dean Morgan was utterly stunned.

The BEEP, BEEP, BEEP of a disconnected call sounded from Benjamin Morgan’s phone.

Dean Morgan pursed his lips, then turned and ran outside, dialing Leigh Miles’s number as he went.

But no one picked up on the other end.

A wave of anxiety washed over Dean Morgan. He wanted nothing more than to go back, pin Mr. C to the ground, and beat the hell out of him.

He dialed Leigh Miles’s number again and again, but no one ever answered. Finally, just as he was driving up to the entrance of Arcadian University, she picked up.

"Leigh Miles... where are you?"

That familiar voice replied, "My dorm."

Dean Morgan’s heart jumped into his throat. Gripping the steering wheel with one hand, he said anxiously, "I’m almost at your university. Come out for a minute."

"Whatever it is, just say it over the phone..." There was no discernible emotion in Leigh Miles’s voice.

This made Dean Morgan even more anxious. "I have to tell you something in person."

"..."

There was a long silence on the other end. After a while, she finally spoke two words: "South Gate."

Dean Morgan immediately cranked the wheel, steering the car toward the south gate.

He waited at the gate for a long time before he finally saw her slender figure running out, her upper body wrapped in a jacket, her legs bare.

Dean Morgan’s brows furrowed imperceptibly. He quickly walked up to meet her, taking off his jacket as he went.

When he was just a step away from Leigh Miles, he wrapped his jacket around her waist.

"It’s chilly at night..."

Leigh Miles kept her head down, saying nothing as she let him tie the jacket securely around her.

Dean Morgan raised his hand and ruffled her hair. An uncharacteristically awkward smile appeared on his usually stoic face as he said softly, "Don’t feel pressured."

Leigh Miles stared at her shoes, her mind a mess. She had always seen Dean Morgan as an older brother.

It had never occurred to her that he might like her—not as a sister, but romantically.

The emotion was so complex; she suddenly had no idea how to face him.

Dean Morgan’s words, however, made her breathe a sigh of relief.

She slowly looked up at him and asked awkwardly, "When did you start liking me?"

Dean Morgan thought for a moment and replied, "A long time ago."

"How long?"

"I can’t remember exactly. But I’ve liked you ever since I first saw you. It might not have been this kind of feeling back then, though..."

Leigh Miles nodded. ’How old was I back then? Just a little kid.’

"Mr. Dixon, I honestly don’t know how to respond. In my heart, you’re just like Morgan, Mr. Beta, and Mr. C—all of you are like kind older brothers to me..." Leigh Miles replied cautiously, a hesitant look on her face.

Although Dean Morgan had prepared himself for rejection, hearing her words still hurt. Nevertheless, a faint smile remained on his stoic face as he raised a hand to ruffle her hair again.

"Don’t feel pressured..."

"I’m sorry, Mr. Dixon."

"It’s okay. You’ll always be my little sister. I’ll walk you back to your dorm."

Dean Morgan suppressed the pain in his heart and, as usual, walked her back to her dorm.

The moment he turned around, his gaze dimmed considerably. He lowered his head to look at his watch.

He sent a message on it:

[Sir, I want to go to the Western Continent to replace Alpha.]

***

By the time Leigh Miles had completely calmed down, she realized she hadn’t seen Dean Morgan in a long time.

"Mr. C, where did Mr. Dixon go?"

Benjamin Morgan was typing on his computer. He glanced at her in surprise. "You don’t know where he went?"

"I don’t know..."

"He went to the Western Continent."

"Why send him on another mission?" Leigh Miles shot Benjamin Morgan a displeased look.

She had noticed that among Morgan’s team—Aiden, Beta, Benjamin, and Dean—it was always Aiden Morgan and Dean Morgan who were sent out on missions.

Beta Morgan had to stay with Morgan, so that made sense. But this fox-like man in front of her was always stationed in Kingsford, either at the Arcadian University Laboratory or The Morgan Research Institute. He left the city even less often than Morgan himself.

Benjamin Morgan laughed. "What can I say? Dixon is just that good. No one else can really take over for Alpha."

"Alpha is back?"

"Yep. Brought back a beauty, too. They’ll probably get married soon."

Although Leigh Miles verbally congratulated Aiden Morgan, she still felt a pang of disappointment.

Before, Dean Morgan’s missions would last two weeks at most. Now that he was replacing Alpha in the Western Continent, it would probably be at least half a year.

She had thought it would be half a year, but two and a half years passed instead.

The next time they met, she saw him in the hospital, barely breathing.

Aiden Morgan looked at her with a haggard face, his eyes full of pleading.

"Leigh Miles, I’m begging you, you have to save Dixon..."
