Chapter 238: Settling Accounts
Boss Hall said with a placating smile, "Miss Ross, I’m terribly sorry. It was Miss Bishop who brought them in."
Rowan Ross’s eyes widened in feigned surprise. "Miss Bishop? Oh, you mean my cousin?"
"Yes, that’s right. Miss Bishop brought them in. Otherwise, we never would have let them in."
Upon hearing Rowan Ross’s words, Una Sullivan breathed a sigh of relief. ’So she’s EnoEleanor’s cousin. That makes us all family, so everything should be fine now, right?’
But just as she relaxed, Rowan Ross’s icy voice cut in again. "Boss Hall, I assume you haven’t heard the news yet?"
"What news?"
"The Bishop Family is no longer what it once was. It seems... this place isn’t quite suitable for members of the Bishop Family anymore."
Boss Hall looked at Rowan Ross, troubled. "Miss Ross, I..."
Rowan Ross sneered and took a step closer to Boss Hall. "Boss Hall, every elite family in Tridell is avoiding the Bishop Family right now. Surely you don’t want to get caught in the crossfire?"
"Miss Ross, the Bishop Family and your Ross Family are..."
"Shut up! The Ross Family has no such relatives. The Bishop Family has nothing to do with us. Besides, these people just ran into me. Boss Hall, what do you propose we do about that?"
"Miss Ross, I’ll apologize on their behalf. You’re the bigger person; please don’t trouble yourself with these common folk." Although Boss Hall was inwardly resentful, he maintained his placating smile.
Joseph Summers and Una Sullivan’s expressions turned grim. Joseph, in particular, looked absolutely livid. At his age, he had never been so humiliated by a mere girl.
He took a step forward, intending to reason with Rowan Ross.
Seeing this, Mika Summers quickly moved to block Joseph Summers. "Dad, don’t be angry," she said in a cool voice. "Let’s talk this out calmly. And if there’s a debt to be paid, we’ll settle it properly."
"Hah... Settle it properly? You’ve got some nerve, miss. I’d love to see just how you plan on ’settling the score’ with me." Hearing this, Rowan Ross gave a mocking laugh. She crossed her arms and strode toward Mika Summers.
Mika Summers straightened up, looking up at Rowan Ross. "Miss Ross, I don’t care what your relationship is with the Bishop Family. All I know is that you just insulted my parents, and I want you to apologize to them right now."
"Hah, I insulted them? They’re the ones who weren’t watching where they were going and bumped into me. Am I not allowed to complain? Do you have any idea how much this outfit costs? You want to settle the score, is that it? Fine. Let’s do the math. I’m just afraid you couldn’t afford it even if you went bankrupt."
"Fine. Then why don’t you tell us? How much did your outfit cost?" Mika Summers found the woman before her utterly ridiculous. ’I truly don’t understand how a cultured, well-bred lady like my sister-in-law could have a relative like this.’
"My jacket is a new piece from the latest fashion week auction, valued at thirteen million, seven hundred thousand." At this, Rowan Ross lifted the hem of her coat to reveal her crystal high heels. "And these shoes on my feet," she said coldly, her voice dripping with disdain, "are a new, custom-made, limited edition by the world-renowned designer Aage. There are only three pairs in the entire country, and the price is absolutely no lower than this!" As she spoke, Rowan Ross held up an open palm to signify five million and looked at Mika Summers with a sneer.
Joseph Summers and Una Sullivan had never heard of such astronomical sums of money, and their faces turned pale. Una Sullivan, holding the child, walked over to Mika Summers and secretly tugged her arm. "Mika, how could we possibly afford that? Just say a few nice words and ask her to drop it. After all, she’s EnoEleanor’s cousin."
