Chapter 245. Exiting Earth, the Yin Sparrow Race, Twelve Lesser Sages
During this period of time, more and more beings converged on the Milky Way Starfield. All of them were waiting for the Separation of Heaven and Earth to fully dissipate. Once it did, they could descend and compete for a share of Providence during the Great Age.
Even for Sages, obtaining even a sliver of it would allow them to reap boundless benefits and propel them to higher stages on the path of evolution. This applied, even if they didn't become a Child of the Great Age.
No one was willing to pass up an opportunity like this, as it was just too rare. Letting it slip away could mean a lifetime of regret. How many years would one have to wait before one could witness another era this brilliant?
When word spread that the top hundred starfields had deployed Immortals to project their ancestral planets to prematurely destroy the Separation of Heaven and Earth, these beings became even more excited.
The sooner they descended, the greater their chance of seizing even just a sliver of Providence. Hence, even though there was no formal alliance between all of them, they still reached a tacit understanding.
After all, the success of the plan would benefit everyone, and those from the top one hundred starfields would profit handsomely from its success.
Not too long ago, they heard that Lu Yuan planned to ascend to the moon and destroy the Immortals' plan.
At first, they were shocked. Then, they dismissed it as a mere delusion. When they learned that the moon contained a contingency plan left behind by humanity's sages during the ancient era, every one of them grew tense.
The Separation of Heaven and Earth covered a vast distance. It had once encompassed the entire solar system, but it had drastically weakened with the passage of time.
If that so-called contingency plan was activated, the Separation of Heaven and Earth would be empowered. Granted, their descent couldn't be stopped forever, but none of them wanted Lu Yuan to succeed.
After all, they all hoped to descend as soon as possible.
At this moment, thousands of beings from the Outer Cosmos stood in the vacuum between the moon and Earth. The Sages stood in the distance, much closer to the moon, and the reason for it was simple—they didn't want to be affected by the Separation of Heaven and Earth.
The Sages couldn't get any closer, but they could still attack from afar.
Every last one of them was waiting for Lu Yuan. On Earth, they couldn't touch him, but in outer space? That was a different story.
Rumble!
Just then, the beings from the Outer Cosmos detected a formidable streak of energy exiting Earth's atmosphere. It moved at breakneck speed, so in almost no time at all, a figure appeared before them.
It was Lu Yuan. He was at the pinnacle of the Venerable King Realm, but he was alone. Despite that, the power emanating from him was formidable enough to elicit frowns from the Sages in the distance.
Lu Yuan had exited Earth to reach outer space, and he found himself staring at massive, radiant planets. The planets were mere projections cast onto Earth by the Immortals, but Lu Yuan saw the silhouettes of those Immortals sitting on the planets.
The aura they emitted could only be described as "boundless."
Threads of terrifying energy poured out of them and descended toward Earth. It appeared as though they were piercing the boundary between two worlds. The light coming from them was so dazzling that it seemed to rival the sun itself.
Lu Yuan instantly knew what he was seeing. The Immortals were methodically grinding away at the Separation of Heaven and Earth. There were probably beings stronger than Immortals among them, as Immortals alone couldn't do this.
I guess I really am fighting against the inevitable, Lu Yuan thought, smiling. He turned his gaze toward the moon. The space around it was already packed with living beings, starships, and powerhouses radiating formidable auras.
They came from many different races and clans—the Primeval Daemon Race, the Three-Headed Ghost Race, and at least a hundred other races and clans. The weakest among them was a Venerable King, as that was the minimum threshold for surviving in the vacuum of space.
They were the first obstacles Lu Yuan had to overcome.
However, he didn't hesitate and simply flew forward.
The universe was cold, silent, and merciless. The conditions in this vacuum were brutal, totally incompatible with life. However, none of it mattered for someone as powerful as Lu Yuan.
"Human Lu Yuan." A voice boomed across the void, and twelve overwhelming auras crashed down from above. The auras belonged to twelve Lesser Sages, and a Lesser Sage stood at the helm of them.
The leader's frame was massive, and his wings alone spanned several thousand meters. Shockingly, black flames raged across every inch of his wings.
"I'm a Lesser Sage of the Yin Sparrow Race. I've heard of your exploits. You managed to kill Sages despite being a mere Venerable King. Your talent is extraordinary," he said, looking smug as he gazed down at Lu Yuan. "But stopping our full-on descent is impossible.
"It's inevitable; no one can stop it. If you insist on stopping it, you will only bring ruin upon yourself.
"At this point, you only have two things to do—go back down and pledge yourself to my Yin Sparrow Race. In exchange, we will protect you. What do you think?"
Even though they were supposed to be enemies, the Lesser Sage of the Yin Sparrows held Lu Yuan in high regard. He considered him a once-in-a-generation prodigy, possibly on par with a Holy Son or a Saintess.
If such a talent could be recruited, they'd profit massively
The others nearby frowned when they heard the offer. They hadn't expected the Yin Sparrows to make such a move at a time like this.
After a moment's thought, however, it made sense. Lu Yuan was just really powerful, and he was a native of Earth. One by one, the others wanted to speak as well. It was only words, after all. It cost them nothing to make a recruitment attempt.
"I refuse." Lu Yuan's voice cut through the void before they could do so. It was calm, but the resolve behind it was absolute. He looked past the Lesser Sage and gazed at the others in the distance. "No matter what, I won't let you descend so easily. At least, not now.
"As for pledging myself to any of you in exchange for your protection? My apologies, but none of you are qualified to make that offer!"
As soon as Lu Yuan's words fell, the gazes of the beings from the Outer Cosmos changed. The next moment, a violent aura erupted from them.
Lu Yuan's declaration was nothing short of brazen. Yes, he could slay Sages. Even a Lesser Sage of the Celestial Race had fallen before him. But so what? They were in outer space, not on Earth.
"Human Lu Yuan." The Yin Sparrow Race's Lesser Sage remained the calmest among them. Despite looking calm, the churning black flames around him betrayed his emotions.
His cold eyes were fixed on Lu Yuan as he said, "Your decision to come up here by yourself to fight for your ancestral planet deserves respect. Your courage is admirable, but you're still far too young. The universe is vast, and there are far more powerhouses than you can imagine out there.
"No man is an island; just one man cannot postpone the inevitable. You have no chance of winning in a fight against us."
To reach the moon, Lu Yuan would have to get past them first. However, twelve Lesser Sages stood in his path to the moon, and behind them were Void Sages as well as Venerable Kings. Could one man really fight against so many foes at once?
Despite the odds, Lu Yuan simply shook his head and replied, "I think you've misunderstood. I'm not here to fight you. I'm here to fight the Immortals who have set their greedy eyes on my ancestral planet."
