Chapter 107: Upper Echelon Building
And stopped.
There were dozens of carriages.
No
Over a hundred.
Lined up in rows.
Each drawn by strong horses.
Butlers seated at the front of many of them, dressed in uniform.
Orderly.
Disciplined.
Prepared.
Rowan blinked once.
"Well, this is a lot."
Footsteps hurried behind him.
Neville came jogging down the steps.
"I knocked on your door when I finished packing," Neville complained. "You didn’t even bother waiting for me."
Rowan glanced at him calmly.
"Probably didn’t hear it."
Neville narrowed his eyes slightly.
"Yeah. Sure."
Before either of them could continue
"Everyone!"
Kyle’s voice rang out across the courtyard.
"All of you, line up!"
Students quickly began forming rows.
"Pick groups of four!" Kyle instructed.
"Four per carriage!"
He gestured toward the long line of vehicles.
"Male and female organize yourselves. Four each!"
The courtyard turned into organized chaos.
Students hurried to group up.
Voices calling out names.
Hands waving.
Boxes being adjusted.
Rowan shifted the weight of his belongings slightly.
Then looked at Neville.
"Four, huh?"
A faint smile crossed his lips.
"Guess we need two more."
"Master! Master! Master!"
A familiar voice rang out across the courtyard.
Rowan turned his head slightly.
Elian was running toward him, her long hair flowing behind her.
She finally stopped in front of him, slightly out of breath.
"You’re alright?" she asked quickly.
Rowan gave a small nod.
"I’m fine."
Around them, several male students were staring.
Whispering.
Frowning.
Rowan felt it instantly.
That killing instinct again.
Like needles brushing against his skin.
Damn it here it goes again.
Elian didn’t seem to notice the tension.
"Master, I wanted to come earlier!" she said. "They wouldn’t allow me. I even tried to fight one of the teachers skill to skill."
Her fists clenched.
"But three maids joined in and held me back. They only let me leave just now to come see you."
Rowan looked at her calmly.
"I’m fine," he said in a low voice. "You know what I’m capable of."
She stared at him for a second.
Then nodded.
"Yes, I do."
"Good," Rowan replied softly. "Then don’t worry."
He paused slightly.
"I hope you’re fine too."
Elian straightened up.
"I am. Master, I was never in real danger."
Then she looked toward the line of carriages.
"You guys are relocating, right?"
Rowan nodded once.
"Then let me join you."
Rowan blinked.
"Wait. No. You’re assigned to the Mage quarters. You can’t just"
Before he could finish
The whispers grew louder.
"Is that the beautiful lady again?"
"She’s with him"
"Why is she always around Rowan?"
Some of the male students stared openly now.
Some irritated.
Some jealous.
Rowan exhaled slowly.
Elian tilted her head slightly, confused by the attention.
"I don’t see the problem," she said calmly.
Rowan rubbed his temple.
The real problem
Is them.
He could already feel the unnecessary trouble forming.
And today had already been long enough.
Then, Velqira also joined. Rowan hesitated at first, but then they agreed, and the four of them entered the carriage.
Everyone was silent. No one said a word inside the carriage.
After a while, the carriage began to move. The sound of wheels against the ground echoed softly. Every carriage was filled with students and teachers as they drove off.
After about three hours, the carriage finally stopped.
Elian, Rowan, Neville, and Velqira didn’t say a word. Velqira kept glancing at the others, watching quietly.
As the butler opened the carriage door, they all stepped down slowly. Rowan descended carefully, looking up. His eyes widened in shock.
The building before him was massive—a huge, prestigious structure filled with light.
"Wow! It can easily hold a hundred carriages," Rowan said, astonished.
Other students around him were equally shocked, murmuring in awe.
"Hey, everyone, welcome," a man’s voice called out. "You were supposed to train and get a bit stronger, at least to the level of Class A. But it seems we’ll have to approach things differently now since the building is different and larger than expected.
"This is the first time most of you have been here, right? Only Class A—and maybe Class B—have been inside before. Classes C and D are coming for the first time.
"This building is the academy’s central space for mages, swordmen, and other adventurers’ skills. Everyone stays in the same building, though classes remain separate. There are also battles between classmates, between classes, and group competitions.
"Since we’re skipping the usual process, your training will be fast-tracked. Start now.
"For now, there are two dorm buildings. One is already occupied; the other is empty. Boys will move into the empty dorm. The butler over there will lead you. Girls will be escorted by the female butler.
"See you at dawn, teachers and students. You are dismissed."
Elian looked at Rowan and smiled.
"Master, see you tomorrow," she said.
Rowan nodded with a smile as they went their separate ways.
Velqira didn’t say anything. She simply walked away.
Neville looked at Rowan. "Hey, why are you spacing out?" he asked.
Rowan said nothing, lost in thought, as the students continued marching, following the butler who was leading them to their rooms.
Neville glanced at Rowan again. "Tell me. I want to know your actual relationship with that lady. She’s a teacher, but most of the time she seems to be wearing maid outfits. I remember you told me once she was your maid, but still... are you guys dating or something?"
Rowan’s expression changed. "Hey, what are you saying? It’s not like that, not even a bit. She’s just a bit clingy. We’re not dating," he said, frowning slightly.
"Oh... that’s good. I was just suspecting. Maybe you might like her... or dating her," Neville said with a teasing smile.
Rowan interrupted, "But why did you just say good? Don’t tell me—"
He didn’t finish as he glanced at Neville.
Neville’s face turned bright red.
"Oh, ho, ho, don’t go there," he muttered.
"She’s a teacher, and you’re a student," Rowan said firmly.
