Devil Equinox

Chapter 65 - 65: CHANGE OF PLANS

Staring down the monster in front of me, I took a deep sigh and unleashed my unfiltered power. Yeah, my eyepatch had to go for this one reader! Igiris only smirked at me and then I ended in the hallway of our safe house.

'What?' I asked myself in confusion. I right in front of him and now I wasn't. "Help us Captain," a voice behind me spoke out of breath. I looked behind myself and saw Marcus' team on the verge of death. Carla still struggling to breath, but the pace of each breath was slowing. Cordina without an arm in shock after witnessing what happened to her friends and Henry bleeding out on the carpet floor.

Moving toward them I had to help them. From the beginning we were off on the wrong foot, but this wasn't the time to be petty. I fell to my knees feeling the pain kick. Grabbing Cordina's right hand, I began healing her. As for Carla and Henry, I wanted them together and suspended my right hand above them.

They were in agony, Carla screamed as she felt every fibre of muscle repairing itself to its original state, Henry bit down on his teeth due to the pain of the wound being healed and Cordina didn't respond.

Her shock was far beyond what I thought but that wasn't the case. She stopped breathing. Come to think of it I didn't notice it at all. The other two were still healing but I decided to use a bit more of my healing power on Cordina. I extended my index and middle finger to reach her wrist while maintaining a hold on her right hand, with my fingers I looked for a pulse on her wrist.

Proving difficult, I went on to find the vein first which on the side of the thumb on her wrist before the palm. 'Found you!' I spoke under my breath; it was very feint. It was either that her heart is stopping or her heart just restarted but it wasn't enough to circulate her blood.

I looked back at Henry and Carla, and they began to look lively. Henry tried standing up but he couldn't. A while later Carla and Henry were completely healed but Cordina did not come to.

Something was wrong. I got on top and place my hand on her sternum and pressed firmly to feel her heartbeat. It was very feint compared to her pulse. Her left hand was being regenerated, meaning that she was still alive, but she was by deaths door.

Knowing her, if one was meant to be escorted to the afterlife and she was being brought back to life she would assume it was the medical professionals. Making an exception of that.

After some time, her arm was fully restored. In contrast her heartbeat seemed to become even weaker than before. 'Was she dead before I healed her or her body is resisting by killing her?' I asked myself in thought.

"Stop! Anymore of your healing she will die!" Carla cried out.

I looked up at her perplexed, her cheery demeanour was just a façade after all. She was upset and she held her hands by her chest. "Look Captain, Cordina can't be healed conventionally like you thought," she spoke. "She is dying the more you heal her. I know you felt her heart slowly growing weaker. She made a deal with a demon, and you have met him. His is the one who saved us, your copy Marcus. We are work for a facility I can't tell you about and they had taken a blood sample from you before. You had met number two hundred and fifty-eight before he died. Made from your cells he was a failed experiment. He inherited your angel DNA and was significantly weak, so, he was given weapons to enhance his powers, but it turned out badly for him.

"Then there is our leader, Marcus, number six hundred and forty-nine. He on the other hand inherited your demon DNA and he made a deal with Cordina, that keeps her alive when she dies and this deal was made when she was about to die. She was going to lose everything if she hadn't. She was never part of team, but she joined because Marcus gave her a chance to live her life. I don't know what she went through before Marcus brought her along, but he trusted us with this information to keep it. I can't just let you kill her, Cordina died before the deal was complete and healing her means we lose.

"Please stop! We had spent years with her, and she is the last remnant of something important to us."

Looking back at Cordina, I got off her and took a few steps back. I placed my hand on my forehead, closed my eyes and took a slow deep breath. "It seems there are some secrets you didn't want to hear have surfaced." My Mind spoke. "The so called 'Killer Project' was real after all. What do you say about that?"

"Not now. I have something to deal with now," my Body told my Mind.

We took Cordina back into our safe room and went into Veronica's and Darius's rooms one after the other. I tried waking them up, but it didn't work out. 'Wake the fuck up!' I shouted under my breath. And I stopped to think. Veronica wouldn't sleep this long, but I can't fight them to wake up.

Leaving her room, after my second visit, frustrated. They two in the living room noticed it. "I can't get anyone up," I told them. Henry and Carla looked at each other and muttered between each other. I left them to go into our weapons room looking for suitable weapons, but none was available. 'Igiris isn't slow enough for these. My pistols can do a better job but if he is close that's the end of me. My sword, Titan Slayer can return to my hand, but it is still risky to use it. It can still leave me vulnerable, since it can be slow and monotonous in action. That leaves me with my gauntlets, Angels Bloodshed. It may be faster than sword and is only limited by my hand movement and strength. So, it relies so on my hand-to-hand combat.' I then concluded that if all goes wrong my, gauntlet is the best weapon to use.

A battle plan was difficult to come up with, since I had no time to come up with one. I had to improvise against Ben and Igiris. But I have to take the fight somewhere else, pedestrians are in danger and I needed to avoid getting them involved. Yeah, there are pedestrians out on that street there always had been, the moment they saw Igiris they fled. They knew him and The Harlem.

"Looks like I have you two to work with," I told them. To my surprise they rejected, they couldn't fight and beat Ben let alone Igiris. They were out of their league and said they would look out for my team and Cordina. Leaving me to face them alone.

Now I had to adapt to my situation, it's back to the old days when I faced multiple strong foes at once.

Outside the safe room and out on the street, I called for their attention. They had been searching for me around the block and killing anyone who didn't comply. "You looking for me assholes!" I shouted. "Well, here I am you pieces of shit!"

Walking towards them arms wide open and I glared them down. They both looked at me and Igiris sent Ben to bring Amelia out as leverage. However, he couldn't get near for Thalicus made sure of it. Ben came out of the diner and informed Igiris. He looked at me in disdain; it was subtly but I could see his face changing into anger. I pissed him off.

"Very smart of you Captain," he said. "You really have friends to help you. You know when you and that woman escaped from the heat chamber, I was astonished. Your sheer strength to break through the steel reinforced padded floors puts you in a league of your own. It is very underwhelming how you are struggling against me with the power you have. It makes me want to laugh and scold you. It also makes me want to pity those you are with. For someone so strong, he can't even protect someone like this."

He held up Marcus's corpse, mocking me and it struck a nerve. My anger pent up inside of me and now it needed to be released on something or someone!
