Chapter 298: Demon
The Governor had banked on two things, one, that the number of people that were here would be enough to stop Aren, and that was honestly a good idea, the second was that Aren would not kill all these people, no human wanted that amount of blood on their hands, even Aren.
Lucy, who had finished clearing up the inside of the house, walked out the front door, she held two of the Governor’s men in her hands as she walked out, tossing them to the side the moment she was out, she looked at Aren and the situation that he was in and then immediately walked to his side to help.
"The two of you might be strong, but against this number, there is no need for you to try." The Governor said.
"He is throwing your lives away, come at me and you’ll die," Aren said, making sure that they heard him and knew the risk of what they wanted to do, if they all wanted to throw away their lives then that was totally fine, but he would at least give them a warning first.
The governor frowned, he knew Aren wanted to sway their minds and make them back away, but he wasn’t willing to accept that, he wanted to ensure that he killed Aren and got that spear.
"Whoever kills Shadow shall receive a lifetime payment from me, even his children’s children will never need to struggle again, everything will be paid for," the governor yelled out, and that was all that was needed, everyone charged in instantly.
"What do we do now?" Lucy asked.
Aren looked at the sky above, if they flew they could probably get out of here with no issues at all, he knew that, but did he really want to do that?
He summoned his ancient devourer and then summoned his army of shadows behind him, the people watched as shadow after shadow appeared behind Aren, standing there and looking like a badass army.
"This is how it will be," Aren said calmly, "I’ll use all of you to gain EXP," after saying that, his army of shadows lunged ahead without another word, they charged in fast, the people were stunned by the shadows, some got scared and started running, and to those ones, Aren felt they were genuinely smart, but some refused to run, they charged forward, confident in their strength.
What followed was a bloodbath, but Aren had a change of mind before the attack happened, there were at least five hundred to a thousand people here all moving with the desire to kill him, but he didn’t want to kill them.
The shadows began taking them down, leaving them with heavy injuries that shattered their bones, ripped their bodies into shreds, left them with near death injuries, but not a single one of them died, or by his hands.
At the same time, Aren stood at the back watching without emotion. This was the only mercy he could show, if he decided to allow them, they would chase, the human mind is clouded by the desire for rewards.
"I’ll not allow anyone to slow me down or stop me, I’ll fix this all, this world, everything that exists, I’ll fix it."
He looked up and his eyes met the governor who was seething at this point, he looked at the horror around him and his rage grew, not because of the pain that they all felt but rather because of the fact that the plan he had didn’t work, he hated that and he didn’t want it, he needed that spear and was willing to do whatever it took for that.
So he summoned something, a black fruit appeared in his hands, its shape irregular, and so was its texture, Aren saw the fruit but could not understand what exactly it was, he had never seen such a fruit before.
The governor looked at the fruit and then burst into laughter, his tongue sticking out of his mouth, his eyes rolled back, and then finally he leaned forward, looking Aren right in the eye.
"This, I have kept this for the time I’ll need it the most, and it seems that time has come, I’ll destroy you and I ensure that I get the spear."
After declaring that, he bit into the fruit, teeth sinking and all, he pulled away and the inside was sticky and messy, it splattered in all directions.
The governor smiled, eyes wide in happiness, but that very quickly changed, as in the next moment, it seemed something changed, he grabbed his neck and began coughing, like he was choking.
It didn’t last long before he collapsed to the ground and began convulsing hard, and black blood seeped out of his mouth.
Aren watched, thinking this man had ended up poisoning himself, but in the next second the man rose to his feet, eyes blood red, and black veins all over his body.
"Hahahahahahahaha, finally, this idiot finally ate the fruit," a deeper voice came from the mouth of the governor.
"Something has definitely gone wrong," Aren thought, and he wasn’t wrong because in that same moment, Lucy spoke.
"That’s a demon, a demon has taken over that body."
The moment she said those words, the governor looked at her, and then a grin formed on his face, "oh my my, a fallen angel, what a sight." He said that and immediately started approaching.
"Why would a fallen angel be here, the angels didn’t come to kill you or something?"
"Lucy, what’s happening?" Aren asked.
"A race opposite to angels and made for chaos, a demon, they are all locked in the abyss, which is why this demon had to possess the man to be able to take his body." She explained fast.
"Hahaha, an informed angel are we?" He said, "tch, this body is uncomfortable, a shame I must use it as it is."
"It’s really a fun time to see you angel, but I must leave now, for I need to open the gates to the abyss and I have limited time," the demon said and then sprouted bat like wings from his back, he shot into the air instantly.
"We have to stop him," Lucy said, bringing out her wings immediately and taking off as well, she chased after the demon.
"Tch, another mission," Aren muttered, he summoned three wyverns, two to find the others and one for him to chase after, he got on its back and immediately flew behind Lucy as she chased after the demon.
The demon sensed her chasing, it looked behind him and saw her.
"Arrhhh, once an angel, always an angel, even when you are a fallen one," the demon yelled and then flew even faster.
Lucy clenched her jaw and picked up speed as well, moving so fast that both of them became blurs.
"You guys are going a lot too fast, don’t forget I’m still human," he said and then controlled the wyvern to chase faster, pushing it to the peak of its speed while he was sure that those two still had more speed, after all they were both divine entities.
The two wyverns that Aren had sent out finally returned with Aiden and Kira on one, Athena and Zero on another.
"We leave you for a moment and now we are on a high speed chase after something," Kira complained.
"Not my fault, Lucy chased after the demon and I followed," Aren said.
"Demons? What the hell is happening?" Aiden asked.
"I’d like to know myself, but from what I’ve gathered, angels and demons don’t get along, and also demons don’t exist in this realm, they are from the abyss, I’ve heard of it before, it’s a long story.
The demon possessed the governor who discovered that I was Shadow and had over a thousand people try to kill me."
"Whoa, slow down bro, a thousand?" Aiden asked.
"Yeah, I had to take them down, no deaths but heavy injuries."
"Sigh, I don’t know why I’m happy you at least held back," Kira said.
"Either way, we are now locked in chase with that demon, because he is seemingly going to open the abyss and allow demons into this realm."
"Well that escalated way too fast," Aiden said.
"Shouldn’t we leave this for those that are to handle it?" Athena asked.
"I don’t think Lucy has the time to wait, let’s follow and see what happens, she might need backup."
