Lara:

"Father, how can he divorce me?" I asked, my hands shaking as I held the notice.

"You still have the nerve to ask me that after how you single-handedly ruined everything?" my father questioned.

I tried to get out of the bed, but he gestured for me to stay back.

There was not just anger in my father’s demeanor. There was something else too, something heavy and restrained.

"Yeah, but I did everything because of them, because he wouldn’t let go of Iris," I tried to explain.

My father began to grunt and pace around the room.

"I’m not just talking about that. You know what else you have done, Lara? You have learned the habit of ruining everything," my father yelled at me once again, causing me immense pain as I held the divorce papers.

I had just returned from the hospital. How was it all my fault?

"Father, don’t tell me you are on their side, because that would really break me," I yelled.

My father turned to me and pointed at me, as if warning me to shut up.

That was when I knew this had gone too far. I needed to know what was wrong.

"What is going on? Why are you so angry with me?" I cried while my father stood stiff.

"You did not read the other papers," he said calmly, but there was fire beneath that calm.

With shaking hands, I opened the other file.

The next page destroyed whatever strength was left in my body. It was my hospital report.

"You can never conceive again," my father said.

His words made me slowly sit down and press a hand to my chest.

"This is ridiculous," I commented, shaking my head to dismiss my father’s claim.

"Really? What do you think is ridiculous about this?" my father questioned, his hands on his waist as if he were challenging me.

How could I deny that?

"It is either you or the hospital trying to punish me. Or maybe Kash has told them to punish me. It is a lie, I know that," I said confidently.

But the look on my father’s face terrified me.

"There is a problem with you. You never see your fault," my father hissed at me.

"It is not someone planning against you. It is the truth, and you did this to yourself," my father yelled, pointing at me.

"This is what happens when you keep playing games. See, now the Moon Goddess has started playing with you," my father continued, hurting me so much with his words.

"No, this is not true," I said, smiling at my father, trying to give him the impression that I was not going to fall for this prank.

But when he did not smile back or admit that he was teaching me a lesson, I realized it was the truth.

I had ruined my entire life. There was nothing left for me to do anymore.

"I lost everything, Father," I cried. "And now I cannot even have a baby.

"Finally, I let the tears fall freely, clutching the papers against my chest.

My father was just standing there, watching me.

"Why did you do it? Even if the child was not Kash’s, it was yours. Did you never feel anything? Did you never feel anything for your children? Do you only care about yourself?"

It was the way my father said those words that made me feel ridiculous and disgusting.

"I can never have a child," I said, covering my face with my hands.

My father stared at me in silence, disappointment clear in his eyes.

"Take a sleeping pill and rest," my father replied in a devastated tone.

I knew I had let him down too. He walked away while I sat in the room crying for hours.

When the tears finally dried, I looked at my reflection in the mirror and realized that I had nothing left. Literally nothing.

Was I really going to let them get away with it? Would I let Iris enjoy the life that was supposed to be mine?

As those questions filled my mind, I remembered something.

The monster.

The monster from the Blue River water.

By now, my father and everyone in the mansion had fallen asleep.

I was the only one awake, feeling the pain of everything I had lost.

So it was easy for me to sneak out.

I got to my feet, wiped my tears, and went outside to get into my car.

Once inside, I told the driver to take me to the Blue River.

I would not let Iris win so easily. The monster must be very angry about what Kash had done to her.

Even the last time, she had been beyond furious. This time, she would be even angrier.

I just did not understand how Kash had managed to fool her twice.

Then again, had he not fooled me as well? He had that charm, and he never hesitated to use it.

At least now I understood that much.

But it was fine. I was going to get them both now.

I drove straight to the Blue River and stepped out of the car.

When I entered the tunnel, I realized a few things immediately. One of them was how strangely silent it was.

Last time there had been noises, strange voices, almost like the water was speaking to us. This time there was nothing.

I did not care. I kept moving.

Finally, I reached the Blue River.

But why was it not shining like it used to? Why was there such a strange silence around the water?

"Are you here?" I called out in a shaky voice, sniffling.

"I’m not here to hurt you. I’m not here to take anything from you like they did."

I continued speaking, tears streaming down my face.

"I’m here to tell you that I was fooled and treated the same way as you."

I dropped to my knees.

"They tricked you, remember? Well, they tricked me too."

At this point, I really wanted to speak with her because a warrior had made us wait for an hour before we could get close to the tunnel.

"They took everything from me," I mumbled, my face buried in my hands.

"What do you want from me?"

Then suddenly the voice came. It sounded smoother than before, but it was still the monster of the river.

I straightened my spine and gulped. Of course I was scared. What if she unleashed her anger on me?

All that aside, I had to do this.

"I came here to ask for your help, and to tell you that I will help you too. We need to work together to punish those who have wronged us," I said hastily, trying to explain my side and convince the monster that we were the victims.

"What makes you think I will help you, and that I need your help?" the monster asked me.

"Do you think anybody will show up and tell me that they have been wronged by the world, and I will just start helping them? Do I look like that kind of person?" she complained and I gulped.

"Maybe I haven’t been clear," I started again. "Do you know who I’m talking about?" I asked her. "Do you know who tricked us?" I added.

"Kash and his mate Iris," as soon as I said that name, I heard her grunt.

"Exactly, I know that would make you feel like we are in the same boat," I said, because I knew that would pique her interest.

"Weren’t you the one he brought last time to fool me?" she asked.

There was some movement in the far corner of the water.

"Yes, you’re right. I was brought in without knowing what was going on," I explained. "My ears were covered, my eyes were covered. I was fooled," I uttered, sniffling as the memories rushed back to me.

I really thought at that time that I had won.

All that for what? To be in a position where I can’t even conceive anymore.

"What happened then?" she asked me in her cold, meticulous voice.

"His mate happened. She made him reject me. They killed my babies. So yes, I want revenge."

I started to cry as I said those words, hoping she would feel some kind of empathy for me.

If not for me, at least she would feel some kind of anger toward them.

"What can you do?" the monster asked.

Shiver went through me when she put it that way, asking what I could do, because that meant she was already considering siding with me.

That was a good start.

I scratched the back of my neck.

"I don’t know, but whatever you want me to do," I mumbled, anxiously rubbing my palms together.

This was the first time I was speaking to a monster everyone feared. Of course I was terrified.

"How do I believe you?" she questioned, making the hair on the back of my neck to stand up.
