Chapter 343-Loving You Is A Losing Game
Lara:
They took me to the hospital, and it was confirmed that I had miscarried.
"Daddy, I lost my child," I whispered to my father the moment I was able to form words.
He had entered my room to check on me. However, he looked so distraught.
"Daddy," I called, trying to get his attention.
He barely looked up at me and gave a small nod.
"You should rest," he muttered tiredly.
"Yeah, but look at me. I lost everything. That baby was the only thing that was going to get me close to Kash again," I cried, trying to get his attention.
However, the way he looked at me made it seem as if he didn’t like me talking about Kash or my baby in that tone.
"Hey, that was your child, not something you can use to get Kash," my father snapped before clearing his throat to calm himself down.
Because he must have known I was hurting too.
"Besides, forget about Kash. The fact that you still want to be with him just makes me sad for you."
He left me stunned when he said that. I thought he was going to help me get Kash back.
"Father, maybe you’re forgetting your promise," I mumbled in a broken tone, still wanting eye contact from him.
He finally looked up at me and met my gaze, then shook his head confidently.
"What promise exactly do you want to remind me of?" he asked, his tone almost challenging.
"Yes, I would very much like to remind you," I hissed at my father, watching him glare at me, as if asking me to lower my tone.
"You promised that you would help me get back together with Kash," I reminded him, tears slipping down my eyes.
"No, I told you, I will get him arrested for stealing the Blue River water."
The tone he used was frightening in itself.
"Now, lie down and rest. The doctor said you shouldn’t be taking too much stress," he warned harshly.
I silently watched him, then lowered my head onto the pillow again in confusion.
I stayed there for a few days, and when I returned home, the moment I sat in the living room, I began to complain to my father.
"They did this to me, Father. They caused me so much pain that I miscarried," I cried, playing my part.
However, there was a strange edge to my father’s tone when he grunted.
"You should focus on healing instead of complaining nonstop," he snapped at me.
I did not like the way he spoke to me. He knew I was a victim. Why was he speaking to me this way?
"Daddy, I’m not just complaining for no reason. Something bad happened to me. You know I have every right to complain about it, right? How can you shut me down?" I protested almost instantly.
I had never heard no from my father, so when he began to question me, I did not like it.
He looked up at me as the maid served us food and fresh juice, then looked down again.
"Have some food."
That was all he said, but it got me riled up.
"Father, I don’t like this. If you are going to treat me this way too, then what is the difference between you and them?" I complained, addressing his behavior.
The way he looked up at me and glared sent chills down my spine.
Something was wrong with him, or he would never behave this way with me."If you don’t want to eat, you can go back to your room," my father said, pointing toward the stairs.
I watched his face in silence before getting up, wanting to show him how upset I was with his behavior.
He helped me upstairs, and the moment I was in my room, I began to complain again.
"What happened?" I asked in confusion.
He turned around, his jaw clenched.
"You think the doctor did not figure out that you had taken medicine?" my father hissed, making my jaw drop.
My father had never held me accountable for anything before. Now that he called me out so openly, I was left without an answer.
"What are you doing with your life, Lara? How many more secrets are you hiding?" my father demanded, getting up from the bed and standing in front of me, staring directly into my eyes.
"Why the heck did you kill the child? Why?" he shouted.
I covered my ears, but it did not help. He was so loud that I could still hear him clearly.
"I’m asking you something, Lara. Tell me," he shouted again.
Finally, I gave in.
"Because it was not Kash’s child," I said, pausing as my father stared at me with wide eyes.
"It is true. It was not Kash’s child. He never slept with me." I whimpered.
"So I slept with the guard, the same one who brought me home, just to conceive and trick Kash," I yelled back at my father.
Then I told him the entire plan. For a moment, I thought my father would appreciate that at least I had tried to do something.
Instead, he rushed toward me and slapped me so hard that I fell silent.
"You hit me?" I asked, my hand touching my cheek.
"What have you become? Cheating on your mate, sleeping around, killing babies like they are nothing. What happened to you?" my father demanded.
His questions made my lips curl downward. He had never looked at me with this much anger and disgust.
"I..." I uttered, covering my mouth with my hands.
"I’m so disappointed in you, Lara. I’m so disappointed in you. All this time, I am beginning to wonder if I could have done a better job raising you," he said, not even waiting to hear me out."Don’t you think other people are responsible for what I did?" I asked him in a shaky, broken voice.
However, a loud grunt from my father made me feel even more disrespected.
"So it is always everyone else’s fault?" my father hissed, walking over to me and leaning down so he could look me in the eye.
"Then tell me, what was the fault of those two little children, of those babies?" my father questioned.
My heart began to crumble.
"Let’s just admit it, Lara. I have turned you into a monster."
As he said those words in a very broken and tired tone, I gasped.
How could he do this to me? How could he call me a monster?
He walked away while I started to cry.
"You cannot judge me. I am miserable. How can you say that to me?" I screamed again and again, but my father never returned to the room.
That family had ruined my peace. They were enjoying their lives, and Iris had conceived too, while I was sitting here crying alone.I did not speak to anyone, even when the maid brought food.
I decided to reject it because I wanted my father’s attention, and it seemed to be the only way I could get it.
If I hurt myself enough, my father would be forced to listen.
So I did just that. I stopped eating food, and because of that, I could not take any medications.
Within the next few hours, my father had to be informed.
The maid told me that she would go and tell my father I wasn’t eating, and I did not stop her.
However, my father returned with some papers and threw them into my face.
"What is this behavior? Why is the maid telling me that you are giving her a hard time? Huh? Do we have to treat you like a child now, to force you to eat because food is good for you? Do I have to remind you of that?" my father spoke harshly, as if I were a burden to him.
"I did it so you would come and speak with me. You cannot just walk away after hurting me," I complained, crying in front of him.
I noticed he was holding something in his hand, some kind of papers.
"Father, please forgive me. I was miserable and lonely. They bullied me into taking these steps," I began to explain.
My father pointed angrily at the papers, pacing around and telling me to read them first.
I picked up the papers, and my jaw nearly dropped.
"Take a good look. This is what you have done to your life," he hissed as my hands began to shake.
Big tears blurred my vision before I blinked them away.
That was when my vision cleared, and I saw the papers in my hands.
They were divorce papers.
Kash had proven to me that this time there was no going back to him, that he was taking all the necessary steps to punish me.
"No, Kash, how could you?" I broke down, sobbing immediately, thinking that now Iris had him all to herself.
