Adventures of the last Wild Dragon

Chapter 335: Taking out the Riders

When Violet’s Void Xone dropped along with the last of the dragons that attacked her she was left flying in place and glancing around. She quickly locked onto the few remains dragon riders still desperately trying to control the dragons that they rode.

However, that was no longer as easy a task as it had been before Violet had awoken them from their mental shackles.

Their had been 10 dragons that had managed to free themselves upon her aura and presence display, now only 6 riders still rode atop their dragons. The other 4 riders having been killed by Rhyana and Vithrax and their companions.

She was also thankful of the girls and one old man having moved the battlefield over an empty stretch of land beyond the city and away from the main battlefield. That meant that when the riders were killed and the backlash hit the dragons they could simply fall to the ground without worry of being killed by anyone as they were rendered helpless.

Violet grinned viciously as she locked gazes with one rider who was acting quite viciously towards his mount. Slamming the hilt of his sword into the beasts back as it desperately tried to resist the mental compulsions that compelled it to obey.

Violet blinked, reappearing a short distance away from that rider, her tail already whipping around as it slammed directly into the side of the human.

The man was sent flying as a resounding crunch rang out, signalling the breakage of most bones in the left side of his body.

Once separated from the dragon Violet unleashed a singular void spear and impaled the man through without mercy. He died but a moment later when the spear exploded and erased over half of his torso.

The dragons eyes flashed with a sense of profound glee at its riders death, only for that light to flutter out as its body convulsed before locking up. Then the great beast fell from the sky befor slamming into the ground below with a dull boom.

By the time that its body had impacted with the ground another 2 riders had been killed, leaving only 3 riders left alive.

They looked about with terror in their eyes, they wanted to flee, yet their dragons resisted just long enough for the 3 wild dragons to close in and tear the humans from their saddles and put an end to their lives.

Then their was only 3 beasts in the sky.

One crimson scaled, one electric blue and the last onyx and purple.

Vithrax and Rhyana were both in quite pitiful states having suffered greatly during their prolonged battle. Violet on the other hand still looked quite fresh externally. She had drained a vast amount of her mana utilising her pseudo domain, thankfully her reserves were quite quick to recover.

It was Susan who broke the silence.

"I am glad to see you Violet, I was truly worried when you vanished. But, thank you for coming back to us. You have saved us both once again."

She bowed her head in Violet’s direction, an action that was mirrored by Rhyana, Vithrax and Olivia. That caused Violet to feel quite uncomfortable about the whole thing given that she viewed them all as friends.

"You are some of my few friends, I will always come to help you. You never have to thank me for it or bow your heads towards me. Just keep being my friends and everything will be fine."

Her voice began slightly awkwardly yet soon shifted to become sincere and heartfelt. She truly didn’t want blind faith or to be viewed as someone that was unapproachable by people that she was close to. She had experienced more than enough of that during the past week leading the beast army.

Thankfully Vithrax quickly seemed to catch on and quickly changed the subject earning a grateful looked from the Void Dragon.

"So why did you bring along a swamp Hydra of all beasts? You do know that hydras and dragons historically hated each other right?"

That was news to Violet, although it would explain the slight sense of hidden hostility that she constantly felt from the hydra, past its usual surliness anyway.

Instead, Violet tilted her head and asked. "Oh? No I did not know that, why is that so?"

The other girls also looked on in curiosity, eager to learn more about this fact given that one such Hydra was currently present. "Well whilst dragons were considered the undisputed rulers of the sky. In the ground we could not claim that title in due to a couple of species that rivaled our might down here. The primary species that fought for the right to be considered the rulers of the ground were the Hydras."

"Be it their incredible healing factor, their ability to grow new heads or their near unprecedented abilitly to alter their own size. Hydras were about as close to a natural predictor towards dragons as was possible."

That drew surprised looks from the 4 girls, yet it only took a single glance over at the Hydra, now with close to 100 heads battling furiously against the human general for them to appreciate the older dragons words.

Violet could truly appreciate that fact, from what she had seen Hydras were terrifyingly powerful beasts, easily on par with dragons at a similar level.

She was suddenly very glad that this particular Hydra was fighting on their side.

"Hu." Was all that Rhyana could say at that moment.

Thankfully Susan was around to snap them out of their daze.

"Alright we need to get back to it, Violet, me and Rhyana will stay with these freed dragons and try to get them fighting again. You should probabally return to the battle."

Rhyana tried to object yet was swiftly denied.

"No! You are exhausted and need a break. Plus both of our mana pools are practiaclly empty. We will be of no help right now." Her tone brooked no argument and the now sullen blue dragon reluctantly get spend some time looking over the collapsed and occasionally twitching dragons lying on the ground below.

"Alright, will do." Violet replied, then took a moment and spoke up again. "Im glad that you are all alright. We have some fun stories to tell you when this battle is over!" Then without another word she flapped her wings and shot off, back towards the ongoing battle.

The two dragons and their companions watched her fly off in silence for a moment before Vithrax slowly spoke up.

"She has truly grown powerful in such a short time. To think that she is only half a step away from forming a domain of her own now. And what a domain it will be, I’m looking forward to seeing it!"

The three girls could only agree. Then with a respectful nod of his head Vithrax flew after Violet, albeit at a much slower pace as Rhyana and Susan headed down to the ground to begin assessing the state of the freshly freed dragons.

As Violet was flying towards the battle she took some time to properly asses the battlefield.

Taking careful note of the current state of things.

The situation on both the city walls and at the destroyed gate was looking much more stable. The siege towers which had previously been beginning to fully claim the wall were now being solidly pushed back.

With the hasty reorganisation of the Lords of Eldor, their forces were less able to hold these positions, forcing the brunt of the work to fall to the tier 2 and 3 soldiers. That in turn gave the few remaining lords of Syan the chance to properly push back their foes.

At the destroyed gate the situation was more ballenced. Eldor was no longer fully pushing into the breach, instead the defenders had managed to fully hold the line.

Now the two sides faced off in a ferocious mele whilst spells and arrows rained down on the back lines.

Content that that aspect of the battle was at least mostly stable she shifted her gaze to the rear of the human army and towards her own beast army.

Here was where the humans of Eldor were truly being pressured.

The wild nature of the beasts was playing havoc on the disorganised soldiers. The beasts fought with ferocious glee as they darted from one battle to the other with seemingly no rhyme or reason.

The powerful and intelligent Beast Lords managing the chaotic battlefield with admirable precision, conducting a display of violence that easily surpassed when the enlightened could ever do by themselves. Meanwhile the simpler Beast Lords acted as the hammer that struck at any fortified location.

Tearing their way through any opposition and providing space for their lower tiers kin to push deeper into the fray.

Violet’s gaze swept the battlefield, searching for the location of her companion in the chaotic scene. Soon however she located her, yet when she did her eyes grew large and a sudden surge of panic flaired up within her.

From her vantage high up she had spotted something that Luna had likely not.

For their was a single human moving with terrifying speed through the beast army, heading directly towards Luna.

The man wore heavy metal armour, his entire body encased in the gleaming silver plate. He wielded a truly masssive tower shield in one hand and a spiked mace in the other.

Ever swing of both mace and shield spelled the end for any beast that got in his way.

The second thing that violet instantly noted and is what caused the flair of panic was the fact that this man was no ordinary soldier. Not even powerful Lord, no, this man was a bonefied sovereign.

And he was heading directly towards Luna.
