Chapter 336: Shield Sovereign
Luna moved from one siege weapon to another with deadly force, everywhere she turned up resulted in the decimation of the Eldor forces and the destruction of their powerful weapons.
She had even collected a couple other powerful Beast Lords that followed her around as she took out each and every weapon that she could find.
Behind her was 2 other feline beasts and a peculiar winged rabbit of some kind that couldn’t actually fly but could glide. Its appearance quite confused Luna, yet it was incredibly fast and deadly so she did not begrudge its assistance.
As she just finished off with shredding the steal string of the latest balista she felt a sudden surge of worry comming through her bond with Violet, coupled with a rapid dump of sensations and thoughts that took but a moment to process.
When she had done so her head snapped in one particular direction as her somewhat relaxed posture instantly tensed.
The three Beast Lords around her noticed that and instantly went on high alert too, even if they did not understand the reason. It did not take long for them to understand why however, as not long after they felt the encroaching domain as the human sovereign barrelled through any and everyone in his way.
He only stopped when their was no more fodder for him to charge through and he was finally able to face off against the 4 Beast Lords that stood ready to oppose him.
The sovereign was called Jack Otis, he was a simple man, yet loyal to the Kingdom and a stalwart warrior. He had been tasked with protecting the back lines of the Eldor army, a take that he had utterly failed when the Beast army appeared.
He had been trying to resist and organise an appropriate response which had kept him away from the actually fighting for the first few minutes of the battle. It was then that he noticed one siege weapon after an other stopping their relentless barrage.
He soon learnt why. A particularly powerful Beast Lord was travelling from emplacement to emplacement and systematically destroying their weapons of war.
That was the last straw and forced the soldier to leave the command post in the temporary fortifications and barrel towards the beast that was daring to destroy Kingdom equipment.
So when he finally saw the beast that was responsible for the destruction of their weapons and the deaths of so many men he was in a foul mood.
However, that did not prepare him for when the beast suddenly flashed with a brilliant blue white glow only for a young woman to appear on the beast place, twin swords of ice instantly forming in her outstretched arms.
After a moment however, he sneered and spoke up. "You think just because you can chance forms that the outcome of this will change? Foolish animal, you will die here and now."
He took a step forwards as his legs tensed, ready to launch him forwards at terrifying speeds. Yet before he could he suddenly felt a pang of danger from above.
Jack did not hesitate a second, his shield instantly rose to cover him from the sky as the world turned purple for a moment as a 2 meter wide explosion of draconic void breath washed over him, entirely covering his figure.
The blast lasted for only 3 seconds, yet when the purple light faded a massive crater was now visable in the ground where the man once stood. Luna blinked in surprise, wondering if that was all it too k the end the battle.
She promptly cursed herself for that foolish thought when she looked down into the crater and saw the man standing there still with his shield raised in defiance of the reverting attack he had so casually endured.
He then lowered his shield and glanced up, locking gazes with the void dragon now flying above him.
Jack let out a sigh, this was going to be much harder than he initially expected now that he was also facing off against the powerful dragon overhead. Still, he was a sovereign, whilst the now 5 beasts arrayed around him were only Lords.
Powerful Lords no doubt, yet still Lords all the same. And what self respecting Sovereign would fear facing off against measly Lords?
"Fine then, I’ll kill you too." He growled before his form seemed to vanish as he appeared right in front of Luna with his mace descending down towards her head.
Yet when the mace was but inches away from landing she disappeared, only to reappear all around him alongside her frozen illusions.
The soverign clicked his tongue in annoyance. Only then did the battle truly begin.
The world around the sovereign suddenly became heavy and solid, as if a mountain had suddenly begun pressing against their shoulders. It was to the point that Violet had to truly fight to even stay aloft in the air.
Meanwhile Luna who was closer staggered in place, almost falling to a knee at the sudden burst of force that assaulted her.
But her illusions did not share this fate, they stayed standing and did not delay in their attack.
The 4 copies of Luna all rushed forwards, each wielding a different weapon that they swung in unison, only the attacks never reached even the man shield.
When the ice weapons came within a foot of the man a profound gravity field slammed the illusions down into the ground, the ice weapons shattering in an instant, that jolt also enough to entirely destabilise the frozen illusions causing them too to disperse into fragments of ice.
A beam of utter nothingness cut through the gravity field, impacting once again with the shield that instantly got into place to defend Jack.
Yet the defense of the sovereign was truly terrifying, multiple blades of wind launched from one of the felines, a lion type beast simply dispersed upon hitting the barrier, whilst lances of shadow were crushed into oblivion from the shadow panther.
Yet all present were slightly surprised when a small winged bunny rabbit passed effortlessly through the seemingly impenetrable and condensed gravity domain to slam directly into the side of the generals helm with a resounding clang.
Violet blinked in surprise, then found herself grinning as she near install understood. That rabbit also had a gravity specialisation, only its was entirely focused internally allowing it to use its own poweres to somewhat counteract the crushing domain of the sovereign.
Still that single attack was not enough to rattle the general, he was far too Experian ed for that.
His mace swung down with the weight of a mountain towards the small bunny only for it to seemingly float out of reach of the weapon.
That gave Luna time to adjust to the pressure being exerted on her and begin to spread her own pseudo domain. She could never hope to overwhelm a genuine sovereign with her skill, yet she should be able to do enough for her to be able to deal some damage. At least she hoped so.
The world around Luna turned frigid, the ground icing over, only to crack instantly from the increased gravity, then it refroze only for the cycle to repeate itself seemingly endlessly.
Still that small addition of Luna’s Arctic manifestation worked to alleviate the pressure exerted upon them ever so slightly, enough for the next wave of attacks launched to pierce through the gravity domain. Yet even if they got past the first line of defense, the now weakened attacks could not cause any damage past superficial scratches upon the gleaming armour of the sovereign.
A menacing chuckle came from the human as he slowly moved in a circle, observing the 5 opponents that now surrounded him.
Then he moved. His figure seemed to almost vanish with the speed he travelled, appearing before the panther before it could even react.
His mace swung down only to be momentarily halted when multiple sheets of nothingness appeared in the maces path. But it was only a momentary delay and not enough for the beast to be able to fully dodge away from the attack.
The tip of the weapon clipped one of the beasts legs as it lept away. A sickening crunch rang out as the impacted leg utterly shattered from that singular impact. The beast was sent flying away, crashing into the already destroyed siege weapon behind the panther with a pained yowl.
A wave of void bolts and spears rained down upon the man, yet his shield unairingly moved in the way each time, perfectly protecting the man from the deadly magical barrage.
Luna took a step and appeared before the man, her frozen illusions similarly appearing around him, this time all of them wielded long spears which they thrust forwards, aimed at the man’s chest.
At the same time the winged bunny also shot in from below, aiming to unleash a vicious head but directly in the man’s butt.
Even with the attacks being co-ordinated so well, the sovereign before them was simply too overwhelming, each and every attack was either blocked or parried with frightening ease.
His mace swinging out in a counter that shattered 2 of Luna’s illusions in an instant.
With a growl of her own, Violet wracked her mind for a way to deal with this man. His defenses were simply too overwhelming, to the point that it was almost unfair.
Still Violet knew that their had to be a way, she just needed to stay alive long enough to find out what it was.
