Chapter 334: Ground Assault
When Violet flew up into the sky to contend with the opposing dragons and the Hydra fought against the human general, Luna stayed on the ground to help lead the assult of the beasts on the back line of the human army.
She let loose a roar of her own, her presence bursting out in a silent wave that caused all of the beasts to return her own roar.
The sound acted as their battle cry, auras and presences bloomed up and down the wide front of beasts, each of them contributing in their own way to the upcoming battle.
The more intelligent beast lords organising the rest of the beasts, ensuring that their wilder natures didn’t cause too much trouble before the battle could truly get started.
The distance between the humans and beasts shrunk rapidly. The faster of the beasts racing ahead as they eagerly eyed their soon to be prey, their predatory nature egging them forwards just as much as the fear and respect of the void dragon flying above them did.
Luna was amongst the first of the beasts to impact with the humans. She had chosen to assult one of the siege weapons that even now still continued to fire relentlessly upon the battered wall of Syan.
A formation of warriors and mages surrounded the ballista, their shields and barriers raised to defend against Luna’s relentless charge.
She did not give them the chance to properly defend against her.
When she was only a scant few meters away from the front line, she took a single step and appeared behind the front line of warriors and right in front of the suddenly terrified looking mages. Her now 4 illusory copies also appearing not too far away from her.
Then came the slaughter.
Her own pseudo domain rapidly spread out, the bone chilling cold sinking deep into the humans all around her. Their movements slowed down, their reactions dulled and their lives soon left them as Luna’s ice encased claws tore right through their flimsy armour.
By the time that the warriors had managed to turn around to face her over half of the mages had already been cleaved apart with their bodies frosted over from that brief but deadly brush with Luna’s Arctic ice.
Of this particular group their was only a single Lord level combatant, yet this singular woman could not hope to hold back Luna being only in the early stages of the 4th tier.
She could only barely hold her own against a single one of her frozen illusions, when the real Luna appeared behind her the human Lord did not last long against Luna’s ferocious attack.
In only a matter of minutes Luna had defeated all of the humans protecting that ballista, then with a simple swipe of her claws she tore through the structure of the ballista, breaking the main bow and rendering it useless.
Then she looked up and assessed the battlefield as a whole.
The beasts had made a ferocious first attack, they had torn their way through the back lines of the Eldor army with ease.
Only after several minutes was Eldor able to respond and properly organise a defense.
They were forced to pull back nearly half of their tier 4 combatants from the front lines against Syan and bring them to the back of their army so that they could push back the rapidly advancing beasts.
This provided a great sense of relief towards the haggard defenders, enabling them to shore up their faltering lines and stem the losses that they were suffering.
Still the defenders were not in great shape.
The prolonged and brutal conflict leading up to that point had already claimed the life of many of their most talented and powerful soldiers. The number of lords that Syan now had access too had dropped from its previous 200 to less than 100.
A devastating blow to the overall combat strength of the army, yet the biggest blow was undoubtedly the loss of two of their sovereigns.
During the short time that the king had been held back by the Blood Sword Saint the chief general had managed to join forces and successfully eliminate two Syan sovereigns.
Thankfully that situation was now reversing.
With the king freed from his loosing battle against the Bloody Sword Sain he was once again free to dominate the remaining human sovereigns.
He first intervened in the battle that his son was fighting. Quickly slaying the man that was pushing Masin to his limits.
Then the two of them split up and rapidly moved to aid their allies in their own desperate battles.
The chief human general once again found himself pressured by the Syan king, only this time he had 2 sovereigns to aid him against the furious king who had watched that man kill two of his most powerful men.
But Luna was only able to delay her own fighting for so long, so after quickly understanding the current situation on a surface level she dove right back into the fray.
She once again targeted a nearby siege weapon, this time it was a trebuchet being protected by 3 Lords and two dozen warriors.
Already they were being attacked by one of the more wild beast lords and a handful of lower tiered beasts.
The beast lord was being pushed back by the superior strength of the humans, something that Luna would not allow to carry on for any longer.
She raced over, sending out the occasional ice spear or bolt to take out any nearby humans that she passed by.
Soon enough she arrived at the trebuchet, appearing behind the magic wielding Lord whilst her illusions split off to deal with the lower tiered soldiers.
The mage managed to momentarily hold Luna back with a rapidly formed wall of flames, yet that only halted her initial swipe as the flames managed to melt the tips of her ice claws that would have otherwise torn into him.
The flames could not deal with her physical body however.
She dove straight through the wall of fire, the flames only managing to lightly singe her ice covered fur.
The eyes of the mage opened wide in horror as Luna’s beastial jaws opened wide to bite down on him.
He transformed into a burst of fire, racing some distance away to reform and launch a salvo of fire bolts towards Luna in an attempt to hold her off.
She simply smiled ferociously at her prey attempt at escaping and took a step.
This time she appeared right in front of the mage, her tail already lashing out with a massive ice blade extending around the tip of the tail.
The man tried to defend, tried being the key word as this flame wall proved entirely inadequate to prevent the 3 meter blade of ice from cleaving the man in two.
Luna then turned her attention to the remaining two Lords that were still fully engaged with the Beast Lord that roughly renewables a bear, only with 6 legs and crimson red fur from which flames continually erupted.
She sent several ice spears at one of the warriors hoping to distract him and provide the bear with an opportunity to take him out, whilst she herself dove directly at the other. The man turned in fright upon sensing her rapid approach.
His shield raised as he managed to parry several of her attacks, managing to score some light retaliations against her in return. The man was clearly skilled and quite powerful, to that point that it surprised her how he was not able to deal with that singular bear with the aid of the other two lords.
With a quick glance at the bear she instantly figured out why. The bear did not seem to care for any kind of defense, happily taking any kind of damage to ensure he managed to retaliate. That kind of reckless behaviour was only possible due to the almost insane healing factor of the beast.
Small wounds closed over in a was of flame in seconds whilst lager cuts healed slower but still at a near impossible rate.
Luna was almost destructed at the absurdity of the beast healing abilities that would almost match the Hydra if they were on a similar level. But she was too experienced to allow herself to be distracted for long.
She quickly returned her focus to the skilled human lord before her, quickly unleashing a barrage of attack directed at the man and pushing him back. Soon overwhelming his impressive defensive abilities and scoring a killing blow with a surprise ice spear through the back as she attacked from the front.
By then the beasts with the aid of her frozen illusions had dealt with the rest of the humans and Luna turned in time to watch the bear finish off the last human Lord.
The bear roared in victory once the last man was killed. Then glanced over at Luna in apparent surprise having clearly not noticed her.
The bear visibly flinched back in fright upon seeing her, before it clumsily lowered its head, then without delay it rushed off to go and find another fight. And to possibly flee from the joint second strongest beast in the entire army.
Luna chuckled at that before she too turned to go and find another target to take out.
