Adventures of the last Wild Dragon

The principal behind Violet’s attempt as a pseudo domain was quite simple really. It was based off her speciality after all.

And whilst the void was truly powerful element, it was not exactly the most complicated at its fundamental levels.

The void, at least from what Violet understood was the antithesis of reality. Reality in this case being the very thing that held the world together.

Violet didn’t truly understand that aspect of the world, but she knew that reality was a mix of mana and something else. What that something else was she did not know, but was sure that it was there.

She had seen it in play multiple times before, predominantly whenever she unleashed a powerful void skill.

Her void would literally tear through reality to manifest itself. Yet as her void moved through the world it would be gradually diminished as its energy was used up.

That was caused by the void ’eating’ for lack of a better word, the mana in the air as it passed by. Yet what caused her skills to fizzle out was not just simple mana, no, it was reality itself and that nebulous concept that was directly opposed to the void. Perhaps some kind of reality attuned mana?

All that is to say that Violet’s void mana was directly opposed to everything within reality, be that natural ambient mana or the flora and fauna that lived in reality.

This was why her magics were so effective against near everything she had faced so far. Her mana did not play by the normal rules of reality, it directly countered it instead.

So with that in mind what would a void domain look like? Well for Violet the answer was surprisingly simple once she had some time to properly think about it.

If void was the antithesis of reality and directly opposed all other forms of mana, then should her domain not try to emulate that aspect?

The answer that Violet had come up with was a resounding yes.

So Violet spread her runes, they reached themselves into reality, their esoteric forms fully encircling Violet in a wide area.

The runes in question had taken quite some effort to figure out, the process of doing so rapidly pushing her skill level in runic magic up.

When the last of the runes was fully etched reality seemed to tremble, the world within the dome of runes buckled then everything within the dome seemed to invert itself.

The air within ceased to excise as it normally did, for it was no longer air but the void of air. The natural ambient mana within also ceased to exist, it instead had been entirely replayed with Violet’s own void mana.

Violet almost sagged from the mana expenditure to activate her pseudo domain, her vast reserved absolutely tanking down to around 20% in an instant.

Yet the domain was realised, and the void had been temporarily brought into reality.

Violet did not have more time to process or contemplate her success, for she still had several dragons and their angry riders flying directly towards her.

She did not flee this time however, instead she stayed still in the centre of her pseudo domain, which she decided then and their to call her Void Zone.

When the first of the dragons dove into the Void Zone Violet smiled victoriously as she finally get to watched the effects of her latest achievement.

Dragons flew with a mix of their wings and through mana. Naturally their bodies were simply too large and heavy to be able to fly without the assistance of mana, wind mana to be specific. Their wings interacted with that mana, treating it much like normal birds do air and using the resistance generated by pushing against the mana to generate lift.

So when the first dragon entered her Void Zone it received a nasty surprise.

For its wings instantly became unable to generate any lift, after all their was no air mana within the area for it to generate lift from. As such the beasts controlled flight came to a sudden halt as the beast began to fall from the sky.

It opened its mouth to roar in panic, yet no sound came out. Once again their was no air for sound to travel through, so no sounds could exist within this zone unless the use of mana was involved.

For the effect was her Void Zine was to invert all natural laws and phenomena. Thus it would treat everything not of the void much like reality would treat her void in the outside.

The order raised his spear and pointed it at Violet, a bolt of electricity formed in its edge before shooting out towards her. Violet did not move, and before the bolt of lightning could travel more than 30 meters it simply fizzled out as the void all around it ate away at its mana.

Violet smiled in delight as she saw that, now others would understand the trouble of using magic that is the antithesis of the realm you were in.

She had ling grown a ustomed to the unnatural resistance that she experienced with her magic. At first she didn’t truly realise that resistance when she first received the magic, that was due to the sudden burst in strength she had gained upon her evolution.

Yet as she had been developing this domain she had come to realise that her magic was naturally surpressed by reality. She had so far overcome that deficit by simply using more mana for each spell that it would normally cost.

That and coupled with the natural tendency of void enabled her to use her magic with little true impact.

Yet for anyone else? They did not experience this rejection of their mana, skills and spells. So they had no understanding of how to counteract when their skills were being directly opposed by the world around them.

That led to the delightful sight of the riders lightning bolt completely failing to cross the distance between her and the rider.

Now came the next step of her experiments. A void spear manifested besides her head. Whilst her normal void spears appeared at around 3-4 meters long, in this new zone that was no longer the case.

In addition to now spanning well over 6 meters in length they also cost next to nothing for her to manifest. As a trade off for this however, the void mana within the zone decreased by the slightest amount, the required mana being supplemented by the Void Zone directly.

Once her spear was fully realised it shot forward with astonishing speed. In less than a heartbeat it had traversed the distance between Violet and the flailing dragon.

The rider attempted to summon an electrical shield around them, whilst the dragons scaled shone with a defensive skill, still, their efforts were fruitless.

The spear punctured directly through the rapidly eroding defenses, piercing straight through the chest of the dragon. Then, it exploded.

When it did explode the usual erasure due to excessive void energy did not happened, instead, much like everything else within her pseudo domain its effects were inverted.

The void did not expand to lay claim to all within the explosion. Instead, reality was temporary allowed to re-establish itself. The results of which was bloody explosion of gore as half of the dragons chest was turned into a bloody splatter.

The now lifeless dragon instantly began to plummet down to the ground, its rider missed one of his legs from the reality explosion falling alongside his now dead mount.

Violet grinned viciously, her experiment had turned out to be a roaring success. Now she just needed to maintain this pseudo domain for long enough to deal with the remaining dragons.

Whilst they did indeed enter into her domain, they did not rush headlong into it like the first dragon, they had learnt from their comrades mistake.

Instead they coated themselves in powerful magics, shells and barrier covering their forms to stave off the encroaching void.

Whilst the void mana did immediately begin to erode away their magics, it did its job of holding back the oppressive void enough for them to act with only mild discomfort.

Yet even with their precautions, how could they hope to deal with a void dragon whilst it was within its own domain, pseudo or not.

The simple answer is that they could not.

Violet flew around the Void Zone with impunity, her speed and manoeuvrability rose by several degrees allowing her to effortlessly dance around the attacking dragons.

One fact she quickly took not of was that her blink ability failed to activate, it seemed that space attuned skills did not work well, or at all when their was no space to traverse through.

But that also prevented her foes from utilising any escape methods of their own.

The fight from there turned into a slaughter.

Violet unleashed boosted void boots and spears upon her foes, beams of condensed void raked across the battlefield cutting deep gouges of flesh as they slashed through them.

Whilst the dragons fought valiantly and their riders utilised every tool at their disposal, the inevitable outcome was all but assured.

Within less than 10 minutes, the current duration of her Void Zone, Violet slaughtered every single dragon and rider.

When the runes containing her pseudo domain ran out of mana, reality re-exerted itself. The world shuddered, then flickered and the void was once more banished as reality reclaimed its rightful authority over the world around them.

Flying in place all alone was a singular onyx and purple dragon as she locked gazes with the remaining dragons still resisting their oppressors.
