Chapter 1486: Chapter 1409: Entanglement
“Oh, are we flirting now?” A lazy voice interrupted, the oppressive atmosphere receded, and Ye Ranran was temporarily safe.
Fu Er’s gaze darted between the two of them, smirking faintly as he asked, “What’s this? A quarrel?”
“Second Brother is overthinking.” Fu Rong spoke sparingly.
Fu Er, never expecting to get much out of him, extended his arm and draped it over Ye Ranran’s shoulder: “Xiao Cai, tell your brother, is he bullying you?”
Ye Ranran didn’t resist, letting him hold her and grinning brightly as she nodded, “Yeah, can you help me get justice?”
“Say the word, and I’ll make sure you get an explanation.” Fu Er jumped into the trap without hesitation.
“I heard Second Brother convened an overnight meeting last night to amend ‘Administrative Law.’ My boss offended you somehow, and now the law’s being changed—I wasn’t even informed. He’s been tearing into me about it just now.”
Ye Ranran and the three brothers of the Fu Family were childhood friends; when they were younger, she used to follow Fu Rong’s lead in calling the eldest and second sons “Brother.”
Ye Ranran mimicked his gesture, draping her own arm behind his head in a chummy display: “Second Brother, be honest with me—did you or did you not notify me yesterday?”
Fu Er’s expression didn’t change, his voice as calm as a still lake: “I’ll need to check with my people. I clearly told them to inform you—did you not get the message?”
“Seems like your team isn’t quite up to par. How about this—I’ll have HR demote them and set you up with fresh new assistants. How does that sound?”
“Whichever person or step went wrong, we need to figure it out. If they did neglect their duties, then naturally, a demotion is warranted.” Fu Er’s smile turned a bit stiff, and at some point, his arm had dropped away.
Ye Ranran knew when to stop: “All right then. If you run into any trouble in this area, just let me know, and I’ll make a call to smooth things over.”
“Thanks, Xiao Cai.” Fu Er walked off with a tense face.
He’d hoped to dig up some dirt but almost buried himself instead.
After that little scene, an hour passed, and the funeral car slowly approached.
Once the condolence rites were finished and arrangements were made for others to stay behind, Ye Ranran left with Fu Rong.
She set about preparing her speech while Fu Rong went off to connect with Sun Yi.
She spent the entire afternoon writing and had barely cracked the introduction when the clock hand landed on six. Ye Ranran shut her computer and headed out.
Sitting in the car, she suddenly remembered her promise to Jun Mochan from last night.
At this time, it was probably around 9 p.m. on his end.
The child would be about ready for bed.
Without hesitation, she pulled out her phone and dialed his number.
That morning, Jun Mochan had already predicted Ye Ranran would call him.
Jun Yurui, the little one, had been eagerly anticipating it, and his anticipation had only grown exponentially after school.
After dinner came his study time, but tonight he couldn’t focus on anything, pestering Jun Mochan nonstop.
Just ten minutes earlier, he had been asking Jun Mochan over and over when his mom would call.
Seeing him like that tugged at Jun Mochan’s heartstrings—he even considered calling her himself to check.
She might be busy and forget, after all.
While he was in the midst of debating, Ye Ranran’s call came without warning.
He clicked on the video call, and Ye Ranran’s face instantly popped into view.
“Ranran, I thought you’d forgotten.” His eyes gleamed with a soft, reflective light, and his brows and eyes carried an unmistakable joy.
