Chapter 89: Black-Braised Egg’s Thoughts
The top floor of the Sanfan Building served as Nick Fury's specially renovated office. With floor-to-ceiling windows on all four sides, the view overlooked a vast stretch of the cityscape.
All the glass had been imported from China—custom-made, bulletproof panels crafted by Fuyao Glass. They were so durable that even a grenade wouldn't shatter them. Nick Fury had these modifications installed when he first became the Director of S.H.I.E.L.D.
While the office had no high-tech gimmicks or hidden tricks, the sheer elevation and transparency of the space provided a sense of openness—and, more importantly, confidentiality.
An entire floor had been transformed into this minimalist, glass-walled workspace. Here, Fury could work undisturbed, soaking in the quiet and the view.
"Coulson, have you completed the mission? What about Rumlow?" Fury asked without looking up.
"Rumlow's still wrapping up the follow-up work," Coulson replied, stepping forward with a thick folder in hand. "I came to give you a full report. Here are the details."
He handed over the file—a well-organized dossier compiled overnight. Every phase of the operation was covered, complete with annotations and highlights. Fury flipped through the contents, nodding silently.
As always, Coulson had done an excellent job. He'd been Fury's right hand for years, and that hadn't changed. But lately, even Coulson's capabilities were starting to feel stretched thin.
Fury needed more people—more trustworthy subordinates. And not just capable agents, but loyal ones.
Pairing Rumlow with Coulson had been a test run. Rumlow, however, was originally Alexander Pierce's man. That meant he could be used—but never trusted.
