Chapter 776

Chapter 776

The family butler told Anton that Anders sent a letter, and it was on one of the room’s end tables. Anton immediately retrieved and opened it. His father wrote that he had already sent a similar letter to Anna. The letter informed them that Anders was assigned to one of the most dangerous combat teams that handled swift offensive measures against the coalition.

Anders’s groups of wizards and warriors had different duties depending on what was urgently needed, like plugging a hole in one of the kingdom’s defenses against the undead, the swift rescue of an important ally, or the swift execution of detected groups of undead that isolated themselves from the main groups.

Anton understood that the teams that his father was assigned to were the ones that encountered the most dangerous missions and the most fatalities. For a moment, he was worried, but then again, his father had already attained a high level of power due to Anton’s Diablo System’s assistance, and he was confident that his father would be able to handle any difficulty. His father’s Paladin skills would make him tough as nails, and his Enigma Runeword armor would allow him to teleport, which would make him escape hastily if needed. Anders also had several town portal scrolls that he could use to return to the manor if he wanted.

After Raymond reported the state of the manor to him, he told the butler that he would leave again immediately, but would follow the Ormundan’s wizard requirement of making his presence available at the manor at least once a week.

Once Raymond left, Anton immediately returned to Rendindura and dispelled the town portal. After that, he spent the rest of the evening leveling up his Diablo II ladder character. He simply could not neglect his Diablo characters because they were still his surest road to power.

The next day, Anton was surprised to learn that his guides’ dire wolves were busy the whole night. A group of roaming undead stumbled into their campsite. The undead were simple zombies, and even the leader of the patrolling zombies, a powerful wraith, was dispatched by the dire wolvers, to the surprise of Delfin, Eva, and Devin, since a wraith was well-known to be invulnerable to physical attacks. They thought that the wolves' attack would be physical, like that of ordinary animals.

The wraith caused damage to the two dire wolves, though, and Eva started knocking on Anton’s door. When Anton did not answer, she had to let go and simply feed the dire wolves. Anton’s guides then discovered that simply feeding the tablet summons would allow the wolves to heal. They did not even have to scrounge up a lot of food for the wolves, since the two dire wolves just started eating the zombies.

“Did you forget that I told you that the wolves are half-mana constructs? That meant they’re magical and their attacks are a combination of physical and magical attacks,” Anton told his guides.

“We know that now. The issue that we first encountered was that we didn’t notice that they were injured. They don’t bleed! They emitted some kind of magic smoke on their wounds. Thankfully, after we fed them some grains and they started eating the zombies, they healed immediately. The wolves that you gave us are truly a blessing to our family. How long will they live?” Delfin asked.

“Why do you ask?”

“Well, if they live long, they could be treated as family inheritance and would be able to defend the family for a long time,” Delfin said.

“You know what, I actually don’t know how long they’ll exist. First off, I haven’t been a wizard for very long, so I don’t have firsthand experience regarding their lifespan,” Anton told Delfin and was surprised to see that Delfin, Eva, and Devin looked flabbergasted at what he had revealed.

“What do you mean you haven’t been a wizard for very long? Arina told us that Oswald mentioned that you’re a Supreme Rank Wizard. I thought you were using some sort of illusion spell to make yourself look young,” Devin tactlessly said.

Arina was probably the voluptuous woman who was beside Oswald when Anton first met them.

“Hey! I’m only nineteen years old! You’re actually a year older than me! Before I became a wizard, my family was just simple peasants, trying to eke out a living from the land,” Anton told Devin loudly.

“That is extremely hard to believe. All the wizards that reached your rank were old men and women. The youngest I know of, according to one of the scholars that I helped once, was in his mid-thirties, I think,” Delfin said.

“Well, I just turned nineteen. It’s easy enough to explain. Around two years ago, an accident happened that had me bedridden, and when I recovered, I was unresponsive. My sister told me that the whole village started looking at me as if I were one of those village idiots. But then, I regain my senses and found that I have what they call Bloodline Magic. Basically, it allowed me to acquire magic at a ridiculous fast pace and let me uncover spells hidden in my family’s bloodline. In return for that magic, I have lost all of my memories. That was the only reason my family and I managed to survive from the undead,” Anton told them.

Anton’s three guides looked amazed at his story.

“Do you think losing your memory for the power was worth it?” Eva asked.

“Yes. It allowed me to protect my father and sister. Even though I don’t remember them, the moment I arrived in this world, they had become my pillars of strength. I wanted to make sure that they survive, even thrive in this world. Fortunately, not only did my magic bring all of us to the Gale continent, but we also managed to acquire enough riches to make sure that our family was living comfortably. Unfortunately, because of the Undead Coalition, we can’t simply live our lives since all of our existence is being threatened by those monsters. My sister is now studying in one of Ormunda’s Magic Schools and is becoming powerful in her own right. My father had become powerful and is now a part of the army that was fighting the Coalition in the kingdom of New Drennor. And here I am, trying to bring the fight back where it all started,” Anton calmly told his guides, like he was reflecting on the situation that brought him to this place.

“Do you think that the reason why you’ve awakened your 'bloodline' magic was because of the attack of the undead?” Delfin asked.

“You’re very wise, Delfin. I don’t actually know why the magic awakened, but that was also one of my theories.”

Delfin looked pleased at Anton’s praise, and even Eva looked at her husband in approval.

“The things that you’ve said, are those secret?” Eva asked.

Anton understood that Eva was worried that he would retaliate if the knowledge spread and the originator was them. He laughed and told Eva that his family history and his situation were not a secret. He theorized that all the wizards in Ormunda probably knew the details of his history. He also already told Oswald most of what he told them.

“Some might say you're extremely naïve for being so candidly telling everyone your situation,” Devin said, and Anton appreciated the young man’s straightforwardness.

“In the grand scheme of things, my situation doesn’t hardly matters to the most powerful beings of this world. According to some of the learned sages that I’ve met, my situation isn’t even unique,” Anton shrugged.

After that conversation, they all went to sleep since they still had a long way to go before reaching Amendora.
