Chapter 90
"Almost," Fraser muttered.
He stood in the throne room staring at the throne which now belonged to him. It always did.
He ran his hand along the chair with the most power in the kingdom. Once the crown was placed on his head, he would be the most powerful man in all the land and prove those who laughed at him when he said he would be king wrong. He wanted to see their faces now that he was announced as king. Fraser wanted them to come and beg to be his followers.
"I need to find a way to get grandmother to go back to her home. I don’t need her over my shoulder when she is on Amelia’s side more than she is on mine," said Fraser. He loved his grandmother but wasn’t blind to how she favored Amelia. His grandmother might have him do things for the benefit of Amelia. "Why are you here?" Fraser asked without looking at the person who arrived.
"Your mother said you would be here so I came to look for you. Getting excited for the moment you become king? If only it could happen as fast as we would like it," said Cedric Adams, Fraser’s grandfather. "You’ve done well. Now one of our own will sit on the throne. I’ve lived to good days."
"One of our own?" Fraser chuckled as it sounded like a joke. "I recall you telling my father I was useless because I did not enter the court and I was not someone the people cheered for. Now here you are checking on me? What an interesting day this is. I will be changing my name to Blackwell so it is not one of your own on the throne. I will make sure you do not gain entry to the castle."
Cedric chuckled, not afraid of Fraser’s threats. "You will be king but you have no power. You need someone like me to back you or you crumble on the throne before you can sit on it in a year’s time. The Adams will back you because you have our blood even if your last name changes to Backwell. Why do you think Richard kept close to the court ministers?"
"I am smarter than I look, grandfather. I will have allies in the castle but it will not be you. You are only trying to use me to push the Adam last name further. I will not be your puppet," said Fraser. He had not easily forgotten all the terrible things his grandfather said about him. "Enjoy your last night visiting the castle."
"Fraser, I can have you killed before you ever sit on that throne. I am closer to the court ministers than you are. How about I have them start staying how Amelia should have been the one to inherit the throne"
