Chapter 81
As expected, many of the people in the crowd didn’t appear pleased to have to give up the people they had bought but Amelia did not care. With Killian’s help, the slave trade would come to an end and hopefully disappear forever.
"Princess," Fabian crept forward to her side to make her at least offer the people their money back. "Since this is your idea, you should use your funds to give the people back the money they spent to buy the slaves."
"If I am going to give anyone money, it would only go to the people who had to endure being slaves, not the ones who bought them. I am not going to reward people who bought other people. The slave trade was not meant to exist in this kingdom but all of you, alongside my father, ignored it and allowed it to grow. No one is getting their money back," Amelia stood firm on her decision.
"Princess, you’re going to piss off a lot-"
"Then I shall have a word with these people as this concerns my people," Killian interjected.
Fabian’s palms became sweaty. The people he was referring to would not want to have a conversation with Killian about the slaves. He would have to warn them to hide the people they bought. "Of course. I will try arranging a meeting for them to have a word with you. We’ll take the rest from here now that you’ve announced your engagement," he said, mostly because he did not want her to give out any more orders.
"Alright. I will take King Killian around to see the town and then head back to the castle. Keep in mind that whatever you tell the crowd will get back to me. Don’t even think about changing what I just said about the slaves," said Amelia.
Amelia once again held onto Killian’s hand and led him off the stage. She took him where it wasn’t crowded and it was mostly their guards. "Thank you. I don’t have anything right now to repay you with but I owe you a favor. If there is anything you want, tell me and I will work towards getting it for you."
"Silly human. All I want is you," Killian replied.
