FALLEN ANGEL: MARRIED TO THE DEMON KING

Chapter 58: THE WIT OF A DEMON QUEEN (1)

The women exchanged glances, their expressions ranging from approval to amusement. Lady Seraphine leaned back in her chair, her fingers lightly trailing over the edge of her cup, "You speak like a true queen, your majesty. I believe with time, we can truly get along."

Sounds of assent flew across the table, "I agree. Some of us are grateful for the demon king," Lady Darvia said. "Under the rule of the previous king, a lot of demons died, and there was always war brewing under the surface of it all. I may have been young, but I remember my mother crying every time my father had to go into war."

The demon by Lady Darvia’s side patted her shoulder to comfort her.

"Your majesty if I may," that same demon spoke up. Arella recognized her as Lady Aphinea. Her sky blue skin stood out from the other demons who, despite having their distinct features, did not have such blue skin. "The main reason why the faction behind the king does not want the union is because they fear that you may have come here as a spy to help the angels find a reason to start another war."

"I heard my mother say the same thing." Lady Darvia added. The dark shroud that had seemed covered her had dissipated.

"A spy?" Arella raised a brow. The thought did not seem impossible. After all, she had been told to consider the marriage as a job by her brother. She did not put it past her family to keep such a thing from her. She was no longer a young angel, but they still treated her as one much to her chagrin.

"That is one of the reasons demons are against this marriage. Where does the loyalty of the queen lie.? She may destroy everything we have worked hard to achieve." Lady Immera pointed out.

"Not to mention the disturbance that happened in the south a few days ago." Lady Seraphine added, "a merchant who works with my husband informed us of the strange sightings that happened. Although seeing as no word has been brought forward by the king and his generals, they may be keeping it under wraps."

Arella blinked, actually surprised that Lady Seraphine was aware of this information. From what the king had told her, only the generals were privy to the information, that they had gotten thanks to one of his high ranked demons, Malrick informing him of it. The connections that Lady Seraphine had was actually quite scary.

"The merchant we spoke to said he suspected the work of angels." Lady Seraphine continued, "He did not know what would drive them to do such a thing, but he could not think of any other explanation for the odd magic they felt."

All the demons turned to Arella, as if they waited for a confirmation from her. The demon who had brought this information to light was taking a pastry from the tray in front of her, as if she had not just put a spark in Arella’s hands, waiting for it to burst.

Arella gave them a small well practiced smile, as she built her walls back up very quickly, "Well," her tone was measured, as she tried not to give anything away. "The matter was brought before the generals just yesterday." A small fake smile plastered onto her lips. Then she sighed, "the matter is baffling." She came to the decision to reveal just a little of information, "all that was retrieved from the site was some fabric."
