Transferred to Another World and Became a Teacher

Ch. 142 - Cultural Festival Latter Half 2 - Students' Presentation Preparations

Day three. The cultural festival was to end today. I, for one, had wanted to watch everybody's presentations, but somehow, I ended up oversleeping.

Normally, something like this wouldn't happen, but apparently, I enjoyed the delicious food and drinks a little too much last night. I slept soundly until it was almost noon. In a hurry, I splashed water on my face, washing and fixing my bedhead at the same time. While drying my hair with wind magic, I quickly changed my clothes.

"Good morning,"

When I came downstairs and was about to head to the cafeteria, Glenora stuck her head out from the cafeteria entrance.

"...Could it be, did you just wake up?"

She said that with wide eyes.

"That's exactly it."

When I replied with a sad feeling, she gave me a dumbfounded look. Then, she pointed behind me.

"Aren't those kids waiting for you?"

"Eh?"

When I turned around, there were four figures peeking out from outside the dormitory entrance. It was Shenley, Ayle, Liz, and Bell. Since it was the teachers’ dormitory, they probably couldn't enter.

"Good morning,"

After giving a morning greeting and a bow, Ayle furrowed her brow and opened her mouth.

"You're late, Aoi-sensei! Please come to the backyard quickly!"

"Eh? The backyard?"

When I tilted my head, Ayle raised both her hands above her head and made a pose like a cat hissing.

"Everyone's anxious about their first presentation, so please help with practice until the presentation!"

"There's only a little over an hour left, and I think you've practiced enough. I'll go to the venue thirty minutes beforehand, so can't I eat before that?"

"No!"

I didn't get permission to eat from Ayle. Oh well. It was my fault for oversleeping.

"Understood. I'll have lunch after the presentation."

Saying that, I gave a nod to Glenora, who had her arms crossed, wryly smiling, and she jutted her chin, telling me to go quickly. It's a tough world.

When I went to the backyard, I saw everyone practicing magic in the shade of the school building.

"The chanting times are different. Match it to the slowest person."

"It’s quite difficult. If we focus on that, there’s a risk of failing the magic itself..."

Rox was giving instructions to everyone, but Cote was groaning with a difficult expression.

"H-how about... instead, the people who are fastest start chanting first, and then show off the lightning magic in order?"

Dean spoke up. He was a boy who usually hid in the shadows and didn't stand out, but he voiced his opinion in a discussion between upperclassmen. Not just Cote, but even Rox was surprised by that.

As he took in the fact that the two were looking at him, Dean chose to continue speaking.

"We’ve been trying to activate lightning magic at the same time for a week now, but it still hasn’t been perfectly aligned. In that case, I think it would be better to think of this as a performance, and show off the magic in turn..."

Though he was hesitant, Dean was clearly voicing an idea he came up with himself. I really wanted to show this side of him to Tis. She would surely feel her son's growth when she saw this unexpected side of Dean.

While feeling deeply moved, I joined the practice session with Ayle and the others.

"Good morning, everyone. How’s the preparation coming along?"

When I said that and showed my face, everyone turned to look at me. Then, Rox crossed his arms and let out a sigh.

"The activation of magic has become quite aligned, but we just got the idea to change the method. I don't think there's enough time now, but what do you think?"

When I was asked, I stroked my chin with my finger, thinking about it. The students would line up and activate lightning magic in order. It would be like a set of fireworks.

"...I think it's good. That way, even a slight misalignment won't be noticeable. You've practiced many times, so you probably know how long it takes for each of you to finish chanting. Please line up in order of the fastest chanting time."

When I said that, everyone made a fuss as they formed a line.

"Hey, who's faster than me?"

When Rox spoke with a mix of irritation, Cote nodded with a wry smile.

"I'm sorry, but I think my magic activation is faster. I'd like to hold back, but I can't lie for the sake of the presentation."

Cote, unusually, answered with a competitive spirit towards Rox. Rox's face turned red at that, and he looked like he was about to get angry. However, perhaps because I was there as a teacher, he didn't say anything and only glared silently.

Rox silently crossed his arms and stood his ground in front of Cote. It seemed he wouldn't give up that his chanting was faster. While wryly smiling at his childish stubbornness, I looked at Cote. Cote shrugged and shook his head left and right. It seemed he didn’t intend to argue any further.

I found their relationship amusing, and then Dean stood at the front. When it came to lightning magic, Dean was the most skilled among the students. Perhaps everyone knew that, as no one said anything.

"...This, Tis-san will certainly enjoy seeing this."
