Ch. 143 - Cultural Festival Latter Half 3 - The Students' Presentations
They must have practiced quite a bit. There weren't many things to correct. I just watched once and gave some light advice.
With this, their presentations should be very good. I nodded to myself in reassurance.
"Well then, since there's not much time left, I'll head to the venue first. Everyone, please do a final check and then head to the venue."
When I said that, Cote opened his mouth with a smile.
"Yes. There aren't many opportunities to present at Fiddiq Academy's cultural festival, you know. I want to give it my all so that it becomes a good memory."
Cote said that with a confident expression. I felt a moderate amount of tension, which made me feel he was dependable. He seemed to have more guts than Eliza.
While chuckling and giving a response, Rox stepped forward with a downturned mouth.
"...It's us students’ big moment. Be sure to watch closely."
"Of course. I'm cheering you on."
I couldn't help but laugh as I replied to Rox, who had made a surprisingly straightforward request. Around high school age, there were many students who told their parents and siblings to not come to school because it was embarrassing, but perhaps that kind of feeling wasn't common in this world.
Feeling a bit heartened, I headed to the venue ahead of everyone else.
As soon as I arrived, cold sweat ran down my forehead. This was an unexpected situation. No matter how skilled in magic one was, this was a problem I didn't feel I could solve.
I looked around the venue, still in a daze. There were really only a handful of people in the venue.
"...Why is it that there are no people at a time like this?"
There were about thirty minutes left until the presentation. Normally, there should have been a situation where people were scrambling to secure a spot to watch. If it were an upper-level teacher's presentation, that would have been the case.
So, was it because it was a student's presentation?
"...This is troublesome. Everyone was so motivated..."
What should I do to gather people? It would be too late to go around and call out to people. But it would be strange to show off flashy magic first to gather people. Maybe something was going on at other venues.
"What should I do..."
If this continued, the students would be sad. While I was panicking thinking that, I noticed a familiar figure at the edge of my vision. A tall woman with a wild aura. It was Kalila, the boss of the Nevis family. Kalila was leading about four young men, looking at the stalls and the faces of the people walking by.
"Kalila-san!"
Clutching at straws, I called Kalila's name. Kalila, despite being quite far away, flinched and quickly turned around. With a surprised face, she looked at me and opened her mouth.
"W-w-what, suddenly... What do you need?"
As Kalila asked back while taking a step back, I closed the distance in an instant and moved right in front of her.
"Whoa!?"
I grabbed Kalila's shoulder, who was in shock, and desperately made a request from close range.
"Kalila-san! Please gather some people! I think that maybe people aren't expecting much since it's a student presentation... If you could spread a rumour or something that there's an interesting presentation at this venue..."
"O-okay! Calm down a bit! I'll take care of it!"
"Really?"
"Y-yes, really. I’ll act immediately. So, let go of my hand.”
For some reason, Kalila struggled desperately to escape my grasp.
"I'm sorry. Did it hurt?"
"...I thought my shoulder was going to be torn off."
After looking at me with an accusatory look and muttering that, Kalila lightly rotated her shoulder and looked back at the men standing around her.
"You guys, mobilize everyone who’s free and spread rumours about this venue. Just simply say that there's an amazing presentation apparently."
When Kalila said that, the men answered energetically and ran off in different directions. Even though she didn't say where to go, they moved without hesitation, as if they had a predetermined route.
While I was wondering about that, Kalila looked at me and raised one eyebrow. She was very skilful.
"...Are you curious? I could check what's going on at the other venues, if you'd like."
Hearing that, I was surprised. What I was thinking about right now was something else, but since I had been thinking something similar just a moment ago, I decided to nod at Kalila's suggestion.
"Yes, please. I was certainly curious. Normally, there shouldn't be an empty venue for a presentation at this time."
When I said that, Kalila grinned.
"Leave it to me. Ah, I'm not going to check directly, okay? I'll ask Gaia-san."
"Gaia-san? But, since they're an information broker, it’ll probably cost money, right?"
"It's not a big amount. Especially for the current Nevis family."
Kalila said that with a fearless smile. But, her expression changed right away, and she scratched the back of her head with one hand, looking embarrassed.
"...Well, it's thanks to you, though."
