CH.768 The Sphere Field Tournament, part 8
I gave Myrphe the time she needed to side deck for the second duel of the match. I know she has some alright cards, but I purposefully didn’t run many of the ‘power cards’ in her deck to limit myself. You know, stuff like Void Trap Hole, Bottomless Trap Hole and a few other powerful traps.
Spoiler
[collapse]
But she did have some backrow removal in her side deck, so she was likely adding that in, just to deal with my Light of the Galaxy.
She also has other traps to stop attacks outside of Rainbow Life. Stuff like Draining Shield. So she might be looking at adding that to buy herself more time without having to discard, or control an Xyz monster for Rainbow Life.
Spoiler
[collapse]
I tried not to think too much about that, but it was hard. It is a deck I made, literally. Most of it is custom cards. Only the Numbers, as well as some of the spells and traps are actual cards in the TCG. The entire lineup of main deck monsters are my customs. And even the extra deck has plenty of my custom Number C monsters. So it really feels more like my deck than many others that I only customized a bit.+
After Myrphe was done side decking, she placed her deck back into her duel disk, which automatically shuffled the deck, and we were ready for the second duel.
Again, Myrphe got to pick who goes first, and she chose to go first. So we drew our opening hands and got ready to duel.
She began with a play she’s made before. Special summoning Lonely Rainbow Butterfly, normal summoning Rainbow Baby Spider, using Lonely Rainbow Butterfly’s effect to raise its level to 10, using Baby Spider’s to match it, and overlaying both for Number 35: Ravenous Tarantula.
Spoiler
[collapse]
It wasn’t a bad plan since my deck does rely on special summoning.
Especially since Myrphe played the Spell Card Sphere Field Mirror. With it, since she controlled a Number monster with 2 or more overlay units, she could detach 1 of those units and use it to Xyz summon the Sphere Field version of the same Number monster.
So that gave Myrphe 2 Number 35s, one of them being the Sphere Field variant.
She activated Memories of Hope, which let her draw 2 cards. She set 2 cards and ended her turn.

I have to say, it was a nice lineup to slow me down. 2 monsters that do burn and grow more powerful as they do. It will give Myrphe a nice lead, as long as she has something in her hand for the next turn.
Mine was a good one. I could OTK Myrphe, depending on her set card. But I wasn’t going to do that. I want to give her a chance.
I began by normal summoning Galaxy-Wing - Cipher. And with its on summon effect, I summoned Galaxy-Wing - Tachyon. That did cause me 1200 damage, which also made Myrphe’s monsters gain 2400 attack, but that was to be expected.

If you control a "Galaxy-Wing" monster, you can special summon this card from your hand.
If this card was summoned from your hand or GY, you can special summon 1 "Galaxy-Wing" monster from your deck.
If you control another "Galaxy-Wing" monster, you can add 1 “Galaxy”, "Photon", "Tachyon" or "Cipher" Spell or Trap from your deck to your hand. You must control “Galaxy-Wing - Photon” to add a "Photon" card, and “Galaxy-Wing - Tachyon” to add a "Tachyon" card.
You can only use the second and third effect of “Galaxy-Wing - Tachyon” once per turn.

I then used Galaxy-Wing - Cipher’s effect to search out Light of the Galaxy, since I didn’t start out with it in my hand. I activated the spell on the spot.

Now came the small problem I had. Do I summon Tachyon Dragon and just negate the spiders or do I summon two more Galaxy-Wing monsters? If I summon two more, I’ll take 2400 burn. And then another 2400 when I summon 2 Galaxy-Eyes. That will only leave me with 800 life points. And I know, the only one that matters is the last one. But at the same time … Not a great plan when Myrphe’s monsters can exploit the difference in our life points. Besides, I've already used Tachyon Dragon.
So instead, I’ll summon a different Galaxy-Eyes and see what Myrphe can do. I can afford to lose this duel.
“I overlay my two Cipher-Wings.” I said.
“Are you summoning Tachyon Dragon again?” Myrphe asked.
“I could, but no. I think it is about time you meet my third Galactic Dragon.” I told her, as I began my chant.
“Light waves that pass the distance of Galaxies, gather together to form a Dragon that will shine its cosmic light to bring us a brighter future.
“Appear with brilliance, Galaxy-Eyes Cipher Dragon!”
Spoiler
[collapse]
As Myrphe looked at my new dragon, her two spiders got to work. Both of them sprayed some poison on me and I took 1200 damage.
“I activate Cipher Dragon’s ability. It uses an overlay unit to take control of one of your monsters. The monster I take control has its effect negated and cannot attack directly, but for the turn, its name is Galaxy-Eyes Cipher Dragon and its attack is 3000.” I explained, as I used Cipher Dragon to grab control of Myrphe’s Sphere Field Number.
As the spider came to my side of the field, an illusion formed around it making the spider appear like a copy of my dragon. I switched it to attack mode and moved into my battle phase.
“Now battle. My copy Cipher Dragon attacks your Ravenous Tarantula.” I ordered.
Since Myrphe now only has 1 Ravenous Tarantula, its defense was just 2400, so my dragon destroyed it just fine. Myrphe didn’t even use her face-downs, so they probably couldn’t help. It did make me worry a bit, but I’m sure I can handle them.
After Myrphe’s spider was destroyed, I ordered my true Dragon to attack her directly. Myrphe again didn’t use her face downs, so she took 3000 damage.
I moved to my main phase 2, and set 4 cards face down, filling my spell and trap zone. They will hopefully be able to stop Myrphe from killing me next turn, even if few of them are just insurance.
Speaking of, setting all those cards still left 1 ‘hand trap’ in my hand, so I was quite confident as I ended my turn, and the SF Number 35 returned to Myrphe’s field.

It was again Myrphe’s turn, and she drew a card.
She began by special summoning Rainbow Butterfly. She used its effect to search for a Rainbow Spider and also special summoned it, milling two Rainbow Baby Moths to the GY.

She then activated a trap, Dimension Slice. She targeted my Galaxy-Eyes with it, in an attempt to banish the dragon. I couldn’t have that so I activated a counter trap, Tachyon Transmigration. It negated the trap and shuffled it back into Myrphe’s deck.

She used the two level 4 monsters to Xyz summon Number 70: Malevolent Sin, and revealed her next trap, Xyz Effect. She went after my Light of the Galaxy, and I couldn’t stop her so it was destroyed.

While you control 2 or more Insect-type Xyz monsters, your opponent cannot activate set Spell/Trap cards.
If you control no Insect-type Xyz monsters, destroy this card.
You can banish this card, from the GY, special summon 1 Insect-type Xyz monster from your GY, but its effects are negated.
[collapse]
That did limit my options quite a bit, but I can handle this.
Myrphe used the effect of Malevolent Sin to banish my Galaxy-Eyes Cipher Dragon for the turn. And since she detached Rainbow Butterfly, she got to special summon Lonely Rainbow Butterfly from her deck.
She moved into her battle phase and declared an attack with Number 70. Because of our life point difference, it had 3000 attack. And if the attack goes through, her Lonely Rainbow Butterfly will be strong enough to go for game.
So we can’t have that. Luckily I had the hand trap ready to go. Since my opponent declared a direct attack, I can discard Galactikuriboh to summon Galaxy-Eyes Photon Dragon from my hand, or deck which I did, and change the attack target to be it. I then attached Galactikuriboh to Number 70 as a material. But since I summoned a monster, I took 600 damage.
Spoiler
[collapse]
That was actually a good thing. Because now our life points are equal. And that means that my Photon Dragon is the strongest monster on the field.
Now normally you should be able to cancel the attack since a replay occurred, but because of how Galactikuriboh is worded that isn’t the case. So Myrphe’s spider had to attack my stronger dragon.
Not that I let that attack come through. I used the effect of Galaxy-Eyes Photon Dragon to banish both monsters until the end of this turn.
That did leave my field empty, but it also left Myrphe with just 1 Insect Xyz monster, so my backrow was active once more.
Before Myrphe could attack directly with Lonely Rainbow Butterfly, I activated a Trap and a Quick-Play Spell. Photon Timestop and Photon Lead.
Spoiler
[collapse]
With Photon Timestop I activated another copy of Light of the Galaxy from my deck. And with Photon Lead I special summoned Galaxy-Wing - Photon from my hand, which I then used to special summon Galaxy-Wing - Tachyon from my deck.

Yes I did take 1200 damage because I special summoned 2 monsters, but I have 2 monsters with 2000 attack on the field. And I can double the attack of one of them if Myrphe attacks.
So even with her now 3600 attack Lonely Rainbow Butterfly, she couldn’t attack over my monsters as they would double to 4000 with Light of the Galaxy.
That left Myrphe no choice except to move into her main phase 2, which returned my Photon Dragon and her Malevolent Sin to the field. But my dragon had +1000 attack thanks to the two overlay units Malevolent Sin had.
Myrphe then set her last card, changed Ravenous Tarantula back on defense and ended her turn.

It was my turn again, so I drew a card. And during my standby phase, my Galaxy-Eyes Cipher Dragon returned.
I was again at a crossroads. Should I go for game? Will Myrphe’s face down prevent me from going for game? It probably won’t, so I’m going for game.
I Xyz summoned Neo Galaxy-Eyes Photon Dragon using my two Galaxy-Wings and Galaxy-Eyes Photon Dragon. It negated the effects of Myrphe’s monsters, the most important one of course being SF Number 35. I also got to draw a card thanks to Light of the Galaxy.
Spoiler
[collapse]
But I didn’t need the card I drew, as I already had the card I needed in my hand, Rank-Up-Magic Galaxy Ascension. With it I ranked up my Galaxy-Eyes Cipher Dragon.
“Lightwaves that pass the distance of Galaxies, prism into all potential futures of this world and light up the correct path!
“Light the road to our Future. Neo Galaxy-Eyes Cipher Dragon!”
Spoiler
[collapse]
Since I summoned Neo Galaxy-Eyes Cipher Dragon with Rank-Up-Magic Galaxy Ascension, it gained an extra 2000 attack for the 4 overlay units my Galaxy-Eyes monsters have.
I then used the effect of Neo Galaxy-Eyes Cipher Dragon. I detached a material from it to take control of Myrphe’s SF Number 35, and the monster was once again twisted into an illusion of a dragon, Neo Galaxy-Eyes Cipher Dragon in this case.
But, since it now was a “Galaxy-Eyes” with Xyz material, my Neo Cipher Dragon’s attack didn’t go down despite it having used an overlay unit.
I changed my stolen monster into attack and moved to my battle phase. I attacked Myrphe’s Number 70 with the stolen monster, and she didn’t stop the attack. So her spider was destroyed and she took 2100 damage. That also destroyed her Sealing Web, since she now had no Xyz Insects on the field.
I then attacked her remaining monster with Neo Galaxy-Eyes Photon Dragon, using Light of the Galaxy to double my monster’s attack. But Myrphe responded to that by using her face-down card, Draining Shield. It negated my attack and gave Myrphe 9000 LP.
Spoiler
[collapse]
Good move on her part. But I still have one more dragon. So I attacked over her Lonely Rainbow Butterfly with my boosted Neo Cipher Dragon, inflicting 4100 damage.
I moved to my main phase 2, pondered for a second if I should use my stolen monster as material for Dark Matter. I decided against it since this is just duel 2, set my last card face down, and ended my turn. This returned Myrphe’s Sphere Field Number to her field, and my Neo Cipher Dragon’s attack went down by 500 since I now only had 3 materials attached to Galaxy-Eyes Xyz monsters I control.

Final Number no longer protected it, and it is a SF Number with no material, so it was destroyed. And because of its own effect, it banished all other monsters on the field, and then both Myrphe and I got to set a card from our decks.
I wasn’t worried about the card she just set. It can’t be activated this turn anyway, so I’m in the clear. For this turn.

I wasn’t happy about it, but I’d won. Sure I could have held back even more, just for fun, but I know Myrphe wouldn’t like that. She expects me to duel to the best of my ability, and I … kind of did.
I did hold back a little to drag on the duels, but I didn’t give her super easy wins and I did counter her plays to the best of my abilities.
