Yugioh Card Summoner

CH.767 The Sphere Field Tournament, part 7

And so, the day had come. The day I had awaited for … well, since three days ago when Myrphe became her own individual and not just my copy.

I honestly didn’t expect her to win against Wilma, but she does still have some of my bullshit luck in her and she top decked the perfect Rank-Up-Magic, twice.

And that is also ignoring her pulling Number 35 from the Sphere Field. And yes, I did double, triple and quadruple check it. She did it legit. The heart of the cards is clearly real in this world.

Well, I have it too. By using Factory cheats, but who can tell the difference? Our judges can, that is who.

“So, Myrphe. You did it. You climbed out of the pit the world threw you in. You rose from the depths of despair. And now you stand there, ready to take on me in my own game.” I said to Myrphe as we were preparing the final duel. On the judge’s seat, Janina, Alice and Fantasia were watching over us.

“Yes. Thanks to you. I … I couldn’t have done it on my own.” Myrphe said.

“Yes. Yes you could have. In fact, you did. All I did was tell someone of the injustice. You are the one who put in all the work.” I told her. “But this isn’t about that. This match is between the two of us. And I plan on winning. So you better come at me with everything you’ve got.”

“I will!” She answered, as she got her game face on.

She then looked towards the judges, waiting for a coin flip.

“Not in this duel. As the challenger, you get to choose who goes first in the first duel.” I told her.

“A-Alright. … I’ll let you go first then.” Myrphe said.

“That is fine. Let’s duel!” I said, as I drew out my opening hand.

Myrphe did the same just after me. “Let’s duel.” She also called out, but not as loud as I did.

“I’ll start with the Continuous Spell, Light of the Galaxy.” I began my play with my ‘custom’ Field Spell. It was actually a Continuous Spell because I couldn’t play a Field Spell, but it would have been a Field Spell if we weren’t under the Numeron Sphere Field.

Spoiler

Light of the Galaxy

Continuous Spell

Cannot be destroyed or negated by the effects of Xyz monsters.

"Photon", "Tachyon" and "Cipher" monsters you control are unaffected by the effects of Xyz monsters that require the Xyz monster to detach Xyz material.

At the end of the damage step, if a "Photon", "Tachyon" or "Cipher" monster you control battled an opponent's "SF Number" monster and both monsters are still on the field, banish that opponent’s monster.

Once per turn, when a "Photon", "Tachyon" or "Cipher" monster you control battles an opponent's monster, you can double the current attack of your monster until the end of the damage step.

Once per turn, if you summon a "Galaxy-Eyes" monster, draw 1 card.

As I activated my Spell, another force rose to rival the Numeron Sphere Field, pushing the field to to float above Myrphe while Light of the Galaxy formed above mine. I wasn’t planning on using the Sphere Field, so this is how this duel would go. My Galaxy against the Numeron Sphere Field.

“... what is that card? It wasn’t ..?”

“You never went back and watched the previous tournament?” I asked Myrphe, even though I knew the answer. Of course she didn’t. I knew how it went, so I never watched it when I was her. And the part I played being her is her history so she didn’t either. “Shame. If you had, you would have known I use cards you can’t use. So not only do you have to duel me, you have to duel against a deck you know nothing about. Does that make you nervous?”

“... It isn’t like I knew every deck and there are always surprising ways people might use cards I read.” Myrphe said.

“That is true.” I agreed with her. “So let’s see if you can keep up. I’ll normal summon Galaxy-Wing - Photon.”

Spoiler

Galaxy-Wing - Photon

Level 4

Light/Fairy/Effect

1000/1000

If you control a "Galaxy-Wing" monster, you can special summon this card from your hand.

If this card was summoned from your hand or GY, you can special summon 1 "Galaxy-Wing" monster from your deck. You can only use this effect of “Galaxy-Wing - Photon” once per turn.

While you control another "Galaxy-Wing" monster, the attack of all "Galaxy-Wing" monsters you control becomes double their original attack, but the battle damage they deal is halved.

“Since I summoned Galaxy-Wing - Photon, I can special summon another Galaxy-Wing from my deck. And I’ll summon another Photon. And since I now control 2, the attack of both of the doubles.” I explained as I made my play. It was mostly for the audience since Myrphe could read my card effects.

“Now I’ll tribute my two Galaxy-Wing - Photons to special summon a monster from my hand.

“Galaxy shining in the darkness! Become a ray of hope and live within my servant! Descend to me! Incarnation of Light! Come forth, Galaxy-Eyes Photon Dragon!”

I heard Myrphe gulp, before she spoke up. “That dragon…” She almost seemed to have an instinctual fear of my Galaxy-Eyes. Maybe some of my memories are influencing her. Like she somehow knows that my dragon is made to counter Xyz monsters.

“It is one of my favorites.” I told her. “And since I just summoned a Galaxy-Eyes, Light of the Galaxy lets me draw a card.” I said as I drew a card. It was another Galaxy-Wing, but not Photon. I'll summon it next turn.

“I’ll then set two cards face down and let you take a turn.”

“I’ll go then.” Myrphe said. “I draw.”

“... I’ll start off by overlaying Rainbow Baby Spider and Rainbow Baby Moth in my hand so that I can summon a random SF Number. I’ll summon…” Myrphe waited while the Sphere Field did its thing. “SF Number 56: Gold Rat. In defense position.”

Spoiler

Yes, that was actually random. Random.org has a great sense of humor.

[collapse]

I chuckled a bit as I saw the Number she got. Not because it is weak, but because of what it represents.

“The first Sphere Field Number you summoned in your qualifier, and now you summon it in the tournament. Against me.” I noted.

“... yes. But I won with it back then and I’ll win with it now.” Myrphe said.

“I’ll fully admit, that was a challenge made by Wilma. And you may have conquered her, but can you do the same to me?” I asked.

“I did with the qualifying puzzles, so I think I can.”

“This isn’t like that. I don’t have to leave you a path to victory.”

“... I feel like you do. You want us to win, don’t you?” Myrphe guessed.

“Maybe. But I won’t make it easy.” I told her.

“I never expected that you would.” Myrphe said. “I’ll use Gold Rat’s ability. I detach Rainbow Baby Spider so that I can draw a card, and then I return a card from my hand to my deck.”

She did just that, and then Rainbow Baby Spider’s effect gave her 1000 LP.

“I’ll special summon Rainbow Spider. And I’m using its effect to send Rainbow Mother Spider and Rainbow Baby Moth to my graveyard.”

Spoiler

Myrphe seemed to run into a crossroad. It looked like she still had plays she could make, but she seemed to wonder if she should.

And in the end, instead of summoning more monsters, she set a card face down and ended her turn.

I began my turn by drawing a card. I got my custom Rank-Up-Magic, but I wasn’t going to use it this turn. Instead, I was ready to call out the second Galaxy-Eyes.

“I normal summon Galaxy-Wing - Tachyon.”

Spoiler

Galaxy-Wing - Tachyon

Level 4

Light/Fairy/Effect

1000/1000

If you control a "Galaxy-Wing" monster, you can special summon this card from your hand.

If this card was summoned from your hand or GY, you can special summon 1 "Galaxy-Wing" monster from your deck. You can only use this effect of “Galaxy-Wing - Tachyon” once per turn.

While you control another "Galaxy-Wing" monster, all "Galaxy-Wing" monsters you control are treated as level 8.

[collapse]

“And like Galaxy-Wing - Photon, Tachyon summons a Galaxy-Wing from my deck when I summon it from my hand or graveyard. So I’ll summon another Galaxy-Wing - Tachyon. And since I now control 2 Galaxy-Wing monsters, while Tachyon is on the field, all of them are treated as level 8 monsters.” I said as the level indicators for both of my Galaxy-Wing - Tachyons doubled.

“I’ll now overlay them to form the overlay network.” I said, before starting my chant.

“Roar throughout the entire universe. Revive, from the source of all galaxies, that flows from far back in time. Manifest yourself, and lead me to victory!

“Galaxy-Eyes Tachyon Dragon!”

Spoiler

“... A second one.” Myrphe said. She still seemed to be coming to terms with facing my dragons. I honestly do wonder how much she can remember. Technically she shouldn’t remember anything, but some instincts clearly stayed.

“Yes. And since I summoned it, I can draw a card thanks to Light of the Galaxy.” I said, and drew the card.

“And now I enter my battle phase. And as I do, I activate Galaxy-Eyes Tachyon Dragon’s effect. By using one overlay unit, my Dragon negates the effects of all other face-up monsters on the field.” As I said that, my dragon ate one of its orbiting overlay units and let out a burst of energy that desaturated all the other monsters. My Photon Dragon didn’t quite like its effects being negated and attempted to bite Tachyon Dragon, but Tachyon Dragon swiftly avoided the ‘attack’.

“Play nice, you two.” I told the dragons. “You have insects and rodents to munch on. Galaxy-Eyes Photon Dragon, attack Gold Rat!”

My dragon did as ordered, chomping on the rat before swallowing it down. Sadly the dragon didn’t seem to be happy with the rodent dinner. Oh and since the Rat’s effects were negated, my dragon could kill it. No need for my Galaxy to banish it.

“Galaxy-Eyes Tachyon Dragon, attack Rainbow Spider. I’m also using effect of Light of the Galaxy to double the attack of Tachyon Dragon.” I did that because Myrphe had left her Spider into attack position. Maybe she wanted it to be bait, but now she’d pay for it with a lot of life points.

“I’ll use my trap, Rainbow Life.” Myrphe countered. “I’ll discard Xyz Tribalrivals to turn that damage into life points. And you also have to attack with all of your monsters.”

Spoiler

[collapse]

“I already did.” I said, as I watched Myrphe gain 4200 LP.

“Don’t lie. I read that Dragon’s effect.” Myrphe said. “I activate Rainbow Spider’s effect in the graveyard. Since it is no longer on the field, it isn’t negated. So I can summon Rainbow Baby Spider, in attack position.”

“And now the effect of your dragon activates. … right?” Myrphe sounded so sure for a while, but just a bit of hesitation came over her in the end.

“Yes. Yes it does.” I confirmed. “Since a card effect resolved, my Tachyon Dragon gains 1000 attack and can attack a second time. Naturally the boost from Light of the Galaxy first goes away.”

The attack indicator of Galaxy-Eyes Tachyon Dragon dropped down to 3000 before rising to 4000.

“And as you said, I must attack again. So Galaxy-Eyes Tachyon Dragon, attack Rainbow Baby Spider.” I ordered.

My dragon did as ordered, dealing with the insect problem. But because of Rainbow Life, Myrphe gained another 3700 LP.

And while I could make a play, with Rainbow Life still in effect, there was no point. So I ended my turn.

“My turn.” Myrphe said. “I draw. … perfect.” I heard her quietly say.

Wonder which perfect card she drew? It isn’t Final Number since she didn’t reveal it and I doubt she’d call From the Grave perfect in this situation.

“I normal summon Rainbow Mother Spider. I control no monsters so it can be summoned without a tribute. Then I’ll play Rehatching of Rainbow Spiders.”

Oh. So that is what she got. This’ll be interesting.

Spoiler

Rehatching of Rainbow Spiders

Quick-Play Spell

You must control “Rainbow Mother Spider” to activate this card.

Return any number of “Rainbow Baby” Monsters from your GY into your deck, then special summon “Rainbow Hatchling Tokens” (Insect/Light/Level 1/ATK 100/DEF 100) to your opponent’s field equal to the number of “Rainbow Baby” monsters returned to the deck by this card’s effect. Shuffle your deck afterwards.

She shuffled all 3 of her Rainbow Baby monsters back into her deck and summoned 3 Rainbow Hatchling Tokens to my field.

“Now I’ll use the effect of Rainbow Mother Spider. I’ll tribute it to summon Rainbow Baby monsters from my deck, up to the number of monsters you control. You have 5 so I can summon 5 of them.” Myrphe said.

She brought out 2 Rainbow Baby Spiders and 3 Rainbow Baby Moths.

I could have honestly stopped her, but I wanted her to make her play. I’ll let her have this feeling of victory, before I rip it from her hands. Might be a bit cruel, but it is what it is. It isn’t my fault that she hasn’t touched my face downs.

“I’ll tribute a Rainbow Baby Moth to make the levels of my other Rainbow monsters to be 10.” Myrphe said, as her spiders and moths ate one of their kind.

“Now I’ll overlay a Baby Moth and a Baby Spider to Xyz summon Number 35: Ravenous Tarantula. But why stick to one when I can have two. So come forth, my second Ravenous Tarantula.”

Spoiler

[collapse]

“The effect of Ravenous Tarantula. All monsters on my field gain attack and defense equal to the difference in our life points. That is … 8900. And double that is …”

“Seventeen thousand eight hundred.” I did the match for Myrphe. Her mental capabilities have definitely gone down since she became independent from me, but can’t blame her too much. Sure she is high leveled, being nearly level 100, but she hasn’t spent time learning how to count, outside of learning Yugioh. So the fact that she could do the subtraction was already impressive.

“Yes. And your monsters will feel all of it.” Myrphe said. “Ravenous Tarantula, attack his Galaxy-Eyes Tachyon Dragon.”

I smiled wide, pondering for just a second if I should let Myrphe win. But come on. I have two face downs. Of course I’ll use them.

“I’ll activate Lumenize.” I activated my trap. “It not only negates your attack but also adds the attack of the attacking monster to one of my Light monsters until the end of my next turn. And I think I’ll have my Tachyon Dragon gain that Seventeen grand attack.

Spoiler

[collapse]

Myrphe’s eyes went wide for just a second as she realized I now have a 20,800 attack monster on my field. But she didn’t stop.

“I still have a second Spider. Ravenous Tarantula, attack one of his Rainbow Hatchling Tokens.” Myrphe declared her second attack.

But again, I couldn’t let that through.

“Sorry Myrphe, but I can’t let you win this easily.” I said. “I’ll activate Photon Stream of Destruction. Since I control Galaxy-Eyes Photon Dragon I can banish a monster you control. So your spider is banished.” I said, as the attacking Number 35 disappeared and was consumed by my Galaxy. “And since I banished an Xyz monster with Photon Stream of Destruction, Galaxy-Eyes Photon Dragon gains 500 attack for each overlay unit it had. It has 2, so that is an extra 1000 attack.”

Spoiler

[collapse]

“And since you now only have 1 Spider, its attack drops back down to eighty-nine hundred.” I reminded Myrphe as her spider’s attack fell.

“... I … I end my turn.” She said.

“As you sadly must.” I said. It didn’t make me happy that I almost brought her to tears, but it had to happen. But I think I can repay her for the attempt by showing her some more cards, just so she is ready for the next duel. I mean, more ready. She still hasn’t even seen the Cipher cards.

“My turn, I draw.” I said, as I willed a specific card to the top of my deck. I got a message from Alice for that, but I just told her I wanted to show something to Myrphe as I won. Alice let me, knowing I already had this duel in the bag.

I acted as if I’d just noticed the card I drew, so I looked up at Myrphe.

“I’m sorry it has to end this way. But out of respect for your attempt, I’ll show you a bit more of what my deck can do.” I told her. “I tribute 2 Rainbow Hatchling Tokens to normal summon Photon Caesar. When Photon Caesar is summoned, I can summon another one from my deck.” This was the card I chose to draw. Sure I had other cards I could have used for this Xyz summon, but with the tokens in the way, Caesar was the best.

“I overlay my level 8 Galaxy-Eyes Photon Dragon and my two level 8 Photon Caesars.” I began.

“Radiant galaxy, here and now become the striking light, and show yourself! Descend, My true light! Neo Galaxy-Eyes Photon Dragon!”

Spoiler

[collapse]

Myrphe didn’t react much to my new dragon. I could have just attacked Ravenous Tarantula with Tachyon Dragon boosted by Light of the Galaxy and that would have been game.

But as I said, I wanted to do just a bit more. Show just a bit more so she’d be prepared for the next duel.

“Neo Galaxy-Eyes Photon Dragon’s effect activates. Photon Howling.” I said, as my new dragon let loose a massive roar. “Since I summoned it using Galaxy-Eyes Photon Dragon, all other face-up cards currently on the field have their effects negated.”

As the wave rolled over Tachyon Dragon, it rolled its eyes. Some of its shine did disappear, but the Lumenize aura was still there so it wasn’t impressed.

But Myrphe’s spider shivered. It had stood tall, even in the face of my Lumenized Dragon. But now it was trying to hide behind Myrphe like a giant trying to hide behind a tiny bush.

And I wasn’t done yet.

“Next I’ll play Rank-Up-Magic Galaxy Ascension. With it, I’m ranking up my Galaxy-Eyes Tachyon Dragon into a Rank 9 monster.”

My dragon seemed a bit peeved off that I was doing this. It clearly didn’t want to let go of its Luminize aura, even if it would come back a stronger monster. Well, it was temporarily stronger, but during the end phase it would have fallen back down to 3000.

“The particles that dwell inside my very soul! Now, surge through time and become the power that exceeds even light!

“Manifest yourself, Neo Galaxy-Eyes Tachyon Dragon!”

Spoiler

Rank-Up-Magic Galaxy Ascension

Quick-Play Spell

During either player's Main Phase: Target 1 “Galaxy-Eyes” Xyz Monster you control; Special Summon from your Extra Deck, 1 “Galaxy-Eyes” Xyz Monster that is 1 Rank higher than that target, by using that target as the Xyz Material. (This Special Summon is treated as an Xyz Summon. Xyz Materials attached to that target also become Xyz Materials on the Summoned monster.) It gains this effect.

  • This card gains 500 ATK for each Xyz material “Galaxy-Eyes” Xyz Monsters on your field have.
[collapse]

“Now the additional effect of Rank-Up-Magic Galaxy Ascension activates. My new dragon gains 500 attack for each overlay unit my Galaxy-Eyes Xyz Monsters have. Between the two of them, they currently have 5. So that is 2500 extra attack.”

“Sadly it will have to lose just a bit of it. Because I’m using the effect of Neo Galaxy-Eyes Photon Dragon. It uses one of its overlay units, and then it consumes all the overlay units of all of your Xyz monsters. It then gains 500 attack for each, and it can attack a number of times equal to the number of overlay units consumed. So 1000 more attack and it can attack twice.”

So while the attack of Neo Photon rose to 5500, the attack of Neo Tachyon was reduced to 6500.

“This is a part of what my deck can do, Myrphe.” I told my opponent. “I hope you can match up in the next duel. Neo Galaxy-Eyes Tachyon Dragon, attack Number 35: Ravenous Tarantula! And I’m using Light of the Galaxy to double the attack of Neo Tachyon!”

Taking down the spider was no problem for my triple headed dragon, and Myrphe took 13,000 damage.

“Neo Galaxy-Eyes Photon Dragon. Attack her directly.” I commanded my dragon and it did as ordered. And with just one of its two potential attacks, I’d won the first duel of our match.
