Yugioh Card Summoner

CH.764 The Sphere Field Tournament, part 4, Remembering the Truth

It was the end of the third day of the Sphere Field tournament and I was in our room with my wives. Because we needed to have an important talk, and I had to find out what they know, and if I can remind them of what they might not know.

“Alright. This question might sound stupid, but I need you all to tell me what you know about Myrphe.” I asked them.

“Yes, that does sound stupid.” Alice said. “You are the one who told us about her. Her being a monster and all of that. So why would you need us to tell you about her?”

“Alright. Let’s start with this. When did you first meet Myrphe?” I asked. They looked like I was crazy, so I added. “Please just answer.”

“Two weeks and four days ago now. You brought her back when you returned from the flower planting trip, telling us she was one of the finalists and she’d stay here until the tournament.” Lua said. “You had me run a medical on her. That is when we noticed the monster core in her.”

“... Yeah. You are right.” I said. “Another stupid question, but have any of you noticed anything strange about her? Either before what happened today or afterwards?”

“Do you want me to get the list?” Alice asked.

“Anything that isn’t about her appearance.” I corrected.

“... well, she doesn’t act like she has lived on her own.” Cailie pointed out. “She is … too familiar with people. Especially for someone who admitted she tried to kill her own sisters.”

“True.” I agreed. “Anything else?”

“Her soul.” Janina said. “It is very similar to yours. An almost perfect copy with very minor changes.”

“Brian…” Lua said, sounding slightly angry. “You didn’t travel back in time and have a child, did you?”

“No. I swear she has nothing to do with time travel.” I promised.

“And a child wouldn’t have a soul that close to their parent.” Janina said. “A child’s soul is often in tune with their parents, but not in the same way as hers.”

“Where are you going with this?” Wilma asked. “I’m dueling her tomorrow, you know. I don’t want to have to worry about any of this when I do.”

“Getting to it. I just needed to know what you know. And what you don’t know.”

“So. What don’t we know?” Unika asked.

“I think it is more correct to say what you forgot. You knew the truth until a small timeline correction happened earlier today.”

“... what did you do?” Alice asked with a sigh.

“... Well, it all started with me wanting to play more Yugioh, with different people. You know, the usual.”

“So you hosted the tournament.” Wilma said.

“Yeah. … but that’d still only be one duel, right? So I … made a soul copy, had it manifest a female form, gave a backstory to that personality and had her play in the tournament. … only for the System to literally separate that soul copy from me and make her into an actual person, while also correcting the timeline to be one where she was never a part of me.”

As I recapped all of that, I quickly transformed into a perfect copy of Myrphe. It wasn’t hard. Even if everyone else forgot that she is me, I still remember being her, so transforming into her is as easy as it always was.

I then transformed back into my usual human form, while I pulled out the timeline staff.

“... Brian.” Lua said, as I was still preparing something. “You made another child! Without me! This is … Why?!”

“Technically she is a copy, not a child. And the gravity spirit isn’t my child either. … well, she is arguable. I guess I’m her sperm donor, even if I just gave her my mana. Myrphe is a literal soul copy. Well was. So calling her my child in any way is just wrong. Besides, she has a father accepted by the world’s history, so…”

“You are so going to give Janina a kid before me, aren’t you?” Lua pouted.

“Even if he did, our child wouldn’t be born before yours. A dragon with my power will cultivate the child inside of us for a few years, and then it will spend another five to ten as an egg. So even if Brian did it to me today, our child wouldn’t hatch for at least 10 years.” Janina pointed out. “By then you can have multiple children.”

“I’ll give you some blood, will that make up for it?” I asked.

“No.” Lua said. “But it is better than nothing.”

“Before you get to that.” Alice spoke up. “What’s with the staff? That’s the one you got from that god, right?”

“Yeah. I want to try if I can restore your memories of the altered timeline. I should be able to do it.”

I quickly summoned Lachros, the superior spirit of time, and with his help, I restored the memories of the girls. It wasn’t that difficult since I knew the timeline I was restoring, but I also understood how the staff shows people who have memories that have been erased or altered.

Basically, if a person has an alternative path they don’t remember, multiple timeline strings come out of them if you look at them through the mana stone on the staff. I can then quickly look through the alternative strings, picking if I want to return those strings to people.

In this case, since the altering was so small, the strings the girls had were tiny. I quickly returned those memories to them, and they understood everything after that.

“A question.” Alice said. “Did the Gods also forget the ‘correct’ timeline or did they also..?”

“They should have forgotten, I think.” I said. “It affects everyone, including System Supports and System Agents. You probably didn’t notice, but Laura gave each of yours a similar questionnaire as I did to you. I asked them to keep quiet, so you wouldn’t have known. But since I recovered your memories, your Supports should have regained theirs.”

(Yes, we did.) I heard Atem’s voice in my head confirming it.

“Are you going to return their memories of the ‘correct’ timeline? Because I feel like the Goddess might panic about those spider things. Are there even any still around?” Alice asked.

“Yeah, they are still around.” I confirmed. “As I said, they are a curse all Arachne have. It will be better to upgrade the System protection against them, but … it can be difficult. The System isn’t as omnipotent as everyone thinks. And those little spiders exploit a lot of the weaknesses it has. Mainly that it can’t protect a person from an internal miasma source, which, in the case of these spiders, eventually turns a person into a Drider.

But you can fight the spider. It is just when you lack the will. The most common reason people turn is because the person hates themself. In a way Myrphe, well the version the world knows, is lucky. She, at the time of the infection, lacked the will. But she regained it and gained control over the monster’s body.

And besides, those spiders aren’t the only way to become a monster. Just look at Hajime. And even outside of him, just spending too much time in an overly miasma heavy location can turn you into a monster. The spiders just assist in it, as they collect the miasma and then… bad things happen.”

“You wrote her a backstory with too much suffering.” Cailie said.

“Yeah… I probably did.” I admitted.

The next day, the tournament continued into the semi-finals. And as already said, Wilma was up against Myrphe.

And no one cares about the other semi-final match. Because whoever wins this one, will win the finals and duel me.

But before the duel, Myphe came to speak to me.

“... Sir Wood.” She began.

“Just Brian is fine.” I told her. “And if that is too much, Sir Brian.”

“... Sir Brian. I … something is bothering me. I … I have some strange … not memories. But … instincts. And I can do strange things. … especially here.”

As she said that, a small dagger generated in her hand. I quickly recognized it as a design I’d made in the Factory.

“I see.” I noted.

She must still have her admin access to the Factory. As my copy, her having it made sense, but I must not have removed it. Well, quick fix. I won’t remove it completely, but I’ll instead downgrade her to the level where most HomeBase personnel are.

“Myrphe.” I spoke up. “You existed outside of the System for a while. So now that you are a part of it, your soul is stabilizing and it might experience some strange things. It should all go away soon.” I told her, though I really wasn’t sure about it. “As for what you can do here. Some people simply can. It is because of your soul.

“Your soul is powerful. It had to be for you to keep your individuality while a part of the monster, and even more so when you took over that monster. And my Factory is a realm where souls manifest in their true form. So your powerful soul has some influence over it. But you don’t need to worry about that.

“You may also be developing a unique skill. It might be the leftover miasma of your monster core being purified and turned into power. But Myrphe, I trust you. I know you won’t do anything evil with that power. You aren’t the same sinner who attempted to do those things. You’ve left your sins behind and risen to be a virtuous individual.”

“I … thank you.”

“Of course. Are you feeling up for the duel today? I don’t think anyone would blame you…”

“I’m ready.” She said, as she got her determined face back on.

“Good. Wilma won’t be an easy opponent.” I warned her. “But if you let your instincts guide you, and if you trust in the heart of the cards, I’m sure you can win. And if you do, I’ll wait for you in the grand match.”

I then turned away from her, heading towards my judge’s seat. And as I did, I heard Myrphe behind me.

“I’ll beat her and duel you!” She called out.

I wanted to turn around, but I just gave her a subtle thumbs up instead.

As I took the judge’s seat, my co-commentator for the day, Fantasia, took a seat on my lap.

… what? You think my skill daughter can’t sit on my lap while we commentate for our audience? Of course she can.

As our two duelists stepped up to the dueling field, they activated their duel disks. Wilma used her GX looking duel disk that she designed herself. Well, more like she copied a design I made and added a few features to it, but the GX design is probably the best a duel disk has ever looked. But that might just be me. I love the simplicity, while also keeping the duel disk relatively small in its deactivated state.

But, as I said, both of the duelists activated their duel disks. And Myrphe didn’t have one. She didn’t have one yesterday.

But today, she has one. On her right wrist. The part on her wrist looked like the center of a spider web, with five moth wings coming out of it to be the monster zones. Three of the moth wings were purple and white, while the other two were orange and white. Basically being the wings of Titanic Moth and Savior Moth.

I quite liked the design, and it really shows that Myrphe was able to twist the Factory to make what she wanted. I’ll make her one in the real world if she wins. Or maybe I’ll ask if she wants something different.

“Well, well, well. It looks like Myrphe has gotten herself a duel disk.” I said to the audience. The duelist couldn’t actually hear us at the moment, since I had prevented our voices from reaching them. “Do you like it, Fia?”

“I like the colors. She picked them after her monsters, and the spider web looks nice.” She said. “Did you know she had help designing it? Sharon and Miris helped her make it last night.”

“Oh. I didn’t know that.” I said, even though I had already found out. It didn’t take that long to look at the Factory records and I did need to check if Myrphe broke anything with her admin access. “I’m sure she is thankful to the two for being there for her in her quickly changing life.”

As we talked, I quickly made sure the broadcast was working. It was a lot easier now that I could use All-Sight. I could just pick an area and check if they can see the broadcast.

I just picked the Alewatch adventurers’ guild, as I know they are watching. And since the stream was working, I began the opening speech for today.

“And now for the first duel of the day. On the right, our lovely no longer monster. The one who has risen above sin and to really soar on her wings of virtue. Myrphe!” I introduced Myrphe.

“And on the left. The smith who has forged mighty machines and pilots their destructive might like no other. My lovely wife, Wilhelmina. Don’t worry. I’ll try to not be too biased.”

“I’ll make sure papa is fair in his judgment.” Fantasia added, as she threw her hands up in excitement. She then magiced herself a coin and got ready to flip. “Myrphe, you can make the call. Heads or tails.”

“... tails.” Myrphe said after a second.

Fantasia then threw the coin, and I could feel a bit of intentions coming from Myrphe. She didn’t quite know how to not influence the Factory. I had to quickly counter her so she wouldn’t manipulate the coin flip, but I may have done too much. Hopefully it was still random enough.

“Heads!” Fantasia called. “Mama Wilma. Will you go first or second?”

“I will go first.” Wilma said. She probably didn’t want to get FTK’d like Hiro did.

“Good.” I noted. “Then let the first duel begin!”
